Sarah_k92 reacted to JFH in Not adjusting to new life in the US
My situation was different but similar. There was no COVID when I arrived, I haven’t had to adjust to motherhood and I was able to work from the very beginning. But I went through similar emotions of feeling “lost” and that I would never settle here. It was almost like a grief for my old life. And I’d visited over 40 times before I moved! Case in point that no amount of visits can prepare you for living here.

Anyway, here’s what I did. It may or may not work for you. Stop comparing things to back home. Accept that things are different here and the life you had in Europe has gone for good. Mourn the loss of it, for sure. But convince yourself to start to see things as “different”, not “wrong”. I’m in a group on Facebook for British ex pats and I see posts from people who’ve been here a decade of more still lamenting that they can’t find custard powder or fairy liquid here. Some of them even resort to importing things at huge expense from Europe. Don’t. Just find a new way to make custard or wash your dishes. Find a new way of doing things. I can’t stand the bread here. I grew up in a bakery that my family had owned for generations. Until I went to university I’d never eaten bread that wasn’t made in our own kitchen. The stuff they sell here and call bread, it’s an abomination. Yes, I know they sell so-called artisan stuff here. Still not good enough for me. Much too sweet. So I make my own now. And I actually enjoy it rather than seeing it as the twice-weekly chore that it was throughout my childhood. And much better than ordering from British food suppliers online. It’s my connection to my past and brings fond memories. Allow yourself the memories but don’t be angry that those days are gone.

I’m finding that I’m less and less saying “we don’t do it like that at home” and more and more “that’s different. But it obviously works here”. Some things don’t change, and that’s OK. You will still be you. And your homeland will still be your homeland. But start to see it as a favorite vacation destination now, and look forward to going back again, rather than seeing it as a the home you been pulled away from. Carve out a new you. Keep some bits of the old you but accept that some bits are gone for good. When my mum comes to visit all I hear is “well we don’t do/say/have that in the UK”. My response? Well, this isn’t the UK. Things are not “wrong”, just “different”.

Last month I became a US citizen. People I work with were thrilled and sent messages of congratulations like I’d run a marathon. To me it was just paperwork. I’m still me. Someone said “how does it feel that you’re now an American?” And I really don’t know. I’m still me. Still can’t understand the rules of baseball. Still need to use a knife and fork to eat and will never be able to cut food with the side of a fork. Still expect “chicken salad” to be a garden salad with slices of grilled chicken rather than chopped chicken in mayonnaise. Still say “Aubergine” and not “eggplant”. But that’s ok. Not everything has to change. But not everything will stay the same either.

It’s an adventure to be enjoyed.

I can't emphasise this enough.... the complete f******** idiot that adjudicated my recently denied I-751 by giving seemingly just a cursory glance at the evidence, cited that it was just my name on the statements with no co-minigling. Given that you can't actually have joint names on many accounts / bills and there is a primary account holder, they didn't even think to flick to page 2, 3 or wherever to see spouses activity listed on the account in a separate section.

Don't assume they will look, or care.
Just imagine you are writing it out for semi-literate idiots who barely graduated kindergarden by spelling out everything in simple plain, easy to understand English - I would like to do a pop-up book myself - and you should be ok.

It seems like there is no option to change the order of how the files were uploaded, and yes for some reason I noticed that they  keep changing  every time I log in!
It would have been easier if they are  in the same order of the attached index!

Each category I put them all in one PDF however  I didn't go back for 3 years, only starting from Jan 2020 and some a bit earlier!
I think the 3 years is for the Tax Documents.
and no worries we are here to help each other!

I did upload supporting documents, like last 4 years of IRS transcript,  cars insurance, life insurance, Rentals Insurance, Lease, General POA, bank and credit card statements, utilities bills, some emails and mails and our pet insurance. The evidences are the new ones since I submitted I 751 which is still pending LOl.
Actually I have a question, should we include a covering Letter and index of the documents? if yes what is in the covering letter?
So far I uploaded all the documents and each one is just labeled of what it is.
My  window will open on 24 Th. started too early but I can't wait to be done with anything related to immigration and filing applications!

There are a few of "mandatory documents that have to be uploaded" but the extra ones can be added even after submitting the application. You can start your draft application 30 days ahead of your eligibility date. It's a very easy and self explanatory process!

Sorry for the late reply, i just saw that you asked a question!  yes all what you have to do is scan your marriage certificate and upload it. You Passport is not one of the documents that is required to be uploaded  with the application, I would suggest to you that you go ahead with your Citizenship application while your passport is getting sorted out. Online  N400 is very easy process and what ever supporting documents you will attach.

Sounds like green card shopping to me. At the very least. At worst - he has other malicious intents, so like others have already said - do not meet with him alone, especially in another country.

If he is able to join you & your friends on a vacation - wonderful. Let him. See how he acts around you, get to know him a little bit. Then once you feel comfortable - you can perhaps spend some time 1:1.

But to be honest with you, since this is already how your relationship starts (with major red flags, feelings of unsafety, trust issues) - why even bother at this point? Plenty of other guys offline or online, whatever your preference is. Seems like the attachment is minimal from your side so just wrap things up now while it's light & easy.

    Hello everyone,

I met a mwondeful Moroccan guy in a dating site back in January. He is 25 and I’m 33 .  I went into that site because I was going through a divorce and I needed someone to talk to. He helped me a lot, listened to me and made me feel a lot better about myself.  We started of playing and joking for like around 2 weeks to a month. Then as we started sharing pictures of each other and he told me... I have a heart full of love but not money (LOL) at the moment I took it as a joke. But as We kept talking I realized what he said. He meant it, it’s really difficult for him to get a job there specially because he hasn’t finished high school. He told me I’m his motivation and that he will now get it for me so we can have a better life together. I did tell him at one point that I could visit him so he can get an invite for a visa. He still told me he would marry me without knowing me (is that a red flag?). Also, my friends and I were going to go there together but at first he was okay with everything and then he insist that he wants me to go by myself. He say he would be more confortable to be just him and I. Him and I have an agreement, he can come to usa and work and if things work out we will have a relationship. If not, we will stay friends. Should I still go visit Morocco by myself?

For all of those worrying about last names not matching, support documents, etc. You are stressing too early. The online application only requires a few documents to prove eligibility that you should have handy already like your Green Card, Marriage Certificate, selective service document, etc. All the other documents you will have to bring with you to your citizenship interview. No need to crowd the online service with many different files because they don't worry about supporting documents until the interview day.

I only uploaded the required documents and my case was accepted and biometrics are being reused, once again! Anyone else got a biometrics waiver after submitting N-400?

This is actually a good question, never thought of that. I believe that you can file as early as 3 years as an option for those who are married to US citizen which is an advantage/privilege whatever. 5 years if tou want to apply for self petition naturalization
  24. Thanks

I actually only uploaded the required documents plus my husband's birth certificate to prove citizenship. They don't need all the support documents on your online application, you can just bring them with you when you get your interview date.
  25. Thanks

You are free to file for citizenship  if you are married to USC 90 days  before your third anniversary of being a Permanent resident and onwards, or not to file if you choose to.
so your window will not close at any point of time.
