  1. News to me that spouses are allowed to attend an N400 interview. Sounds like the IO was being nice to you by letting you stick around.
  2. You need to wait for your wife's I-751 to get adjudicated. How long will it take - nobody knows. In my case it took a couple of months but the interview was waived so my N400 status just changed to 'Oath Ceremony Will Be Scheduled'.
  3. Advice would be to check early am (~7:00a) when they release appointments for the farthest date out, and you should be able to schedule one. Print appointment confirmation and drive with your UK license + that confirmation, and you will avoid getting a ticket.

  7. Yes, hence me saying ‘qualifying sponsor’. Let me simplify: assuming your sponsor meets the required minimum, USCIS doesn’t care if they make $100k, $500k, $1MM or more.
  8. As many others stated above, having a qualifying sponsor is a requirement. How much money they make is irrelevant.

I haven't experienced what Mike E has in terms of people asking for 6 months of paid time off shortly after accepting a position; however I do agree that unlimited PTO is designed to benefit the employer vs an employee: - nobody in their right mind will even consider abusing the system so not to jeopardize their position at the company and simply because realistically not many people can afford to hand off their responsibilities for an extended period of time; - if an employee is released / decides to leave - no payment required for unused time off; - from psychological point of view: when given full control of the schedule and responsibilities, people tend to be more productive / have a heightened sense of loyalty towards their employer. I work in finance, husband works in a tech company. I worked nights when I was visiting my dying father in a foreign country (13 hour time zone difference), husband hasn't taken a full day off since 2020. Both have unlimited PTO. I even have additional bereavement leave for up to 3 weeks. But yeah, it's a total scam.

  12. Then just make folks renew their GC for a fee but not submit ridiculous amount of supporting docs. USCIS gets their money, residents get their updated GCs hassle-free, problem solved.

  16. She'll receive an extension letter when she files to get her conditions removed. If the extension letter expires while her 10 year GC is still pending - she'll make an infopass appointment to get an I-551 stamp in her passport.
  17. Yes, as long as you've been a permanent resident for 3 years as well (well, 3 years minus 90 days for filing).

I read stories online of people having issues either entering Mexico or returning to US with the expired GC + extension letter few years ago (when I had a chance to go) and ultimately decided not to test my luck. Couldn't tell you the exact circumstances but plenty of stories online with various outcomes.

  21. CA DMV even lists the extension letter form (can't recall the name now) as one of the acceptable documents. The agent still wasn't sure how to proceed but the supervisor was more knowledgeable and helped right away.

  24. You can say “don’t break a law” and it will cover all of this. Advising not to drink until becoming a citizen is just ridiculous. Furthermore, not breaking a law is also advised even after you become a citizen. But I mean that’s just me and my common sense.
  25. What the hell did I just read… Please, OH PLEASE, do not stop enjoying yourself at bars and restaurants and consume alcohol as you please as it is not a privilege reserved for citizens only.
