RaptureSongbird got a reaction from Diego&Dianna in March 2018 AOS Filers
Heya, a Feb filer here but have been checking the others months to see how things are going for others as well.  We also went through the Chicago Field Office and had our interview in May.  We were not approved on the spot either, nor were we handed any additional papers, we just wrapped up the interview pleasantly and were shown out of our IOs office.  We had a somewhat difficult interview like yours, lots of questions about everything but overall it went well and our IO was pretty friendly and smiled a lot/cracked some jokes with us too.  I'm wondering if we had the same IO  :-)  Anyway, I wanted to let you know to not get nervous if you don't hear anything for a bit.  We had our interview on May 14th and we didn't receive any online updates until June 8th when it finally showed as approved.  I'm not sure why there was a month delay for us but just wanted to give you a heads up that you might not hear anything this week or next week or the week after and that's really okay.  Once approved, your card will go into production fairly quickly and you'll receive it soon after.  We got notification that our case was approved online on June 8th and then the Green Card was delivered on June 16th.

Hang in there everyone!  Your day is just around the corner.  We just got approved today and they ordered the card as of 6/15/18.  We are so happy and especially relieved!  We were so worried.

Thank you!  Status updated over night to "We shipped your card" so now just waiting for its arrival.  I've been checking in here as well and see that you are getting closer.  I hope everything wraps up for you soon too!

She did not and I didn't want to be too forward in asking, I tend to be a little shy.  So, we just kept checking the DHS website for updates and after almost 4 weeks the site updated to say "We are producing your card" and, 3 days after that update, it updated to say "We have approved your case".  It seems a little backwards to me to show an approval after already saying the card is being produced but I've seen that happen to others here as well.  If your IO doesn't tell you that you are approved and you aren't comfortable directly asking, you could do what I did and ask some leading questions to try and gauge which way they are leaning.  The questions I asked were something like "Assuming everything is okay with today, can you explain how Removal of Conditions will work?" and "Since the current Social Security card says only valid with DHS authorization, should we get a new one once we receive the Green Card?" and "I think somewhere I read in the instructions that USCIS will register with Selective Service as a part of this process.  Just to be sure, and to avoid any issues in the future and assuming everything looks good after today, should we just go ahead and register?".  Based on how she answered these questions, I could tell that she was leaning towards approval because she responded with answers like "When you receive your green card you should....".  Again, if I was more forward I could have asked, and we had a really good rapport with the IO so I think she would have answered honestly or given the usual "I need to review the case further and you will receive notification in the future but right now everything looks okay" answer, but depending on your personality and the IO, you might have to take the roundabout way :-)

I asked about this at our interview last month.  I was told that the case for EAD/AP would be cancelled if they found record of a Green Card being produced.  Our green card is in production now and I can still see the case status for the EAD as "we received your case".  I'm guessing that will change at some point to cancelled or something along those lines once they actually get to our EAD in the processing queue.

    Hey everyone!

We just got approved for the green card!
Interview was smooth, we came 1:55 and right at 2:00 we were invited to the room for the interview. The lady was really nice!
She told us well so you met in Colorado and you (to my husband) went even to Russia?
We said yeah and told a little bit of our story. She asked for joint documents. Currently our income is not much, and we don’t have any joint lease or joint documents for the car as his car on dads name. He also doesn’t have health insurance due to his job. So it was kind of confusing. We just made recently a joint credit account as I can earn credit scores but I don’t use it much as my husband gives me cash most of the time or just pay with a card if we are together.
So she asked more about our story. About my husbands trip to Russia and our trip to my husbands family in December. She took some more pictures from what I brought and some finance documents.
I was really nervous as I always like that in important meetings. And we both were not in the mood as our neighbors who lives one floor under were fighting really loud all night and my husband barely sleep. And he had to work straight after interview.  so I don’t know what the lady thought about our relationship. Maybe it seemed not real idk 🤷‍♀️
She said we are approved as I came on k1 visa and we made the process properly but advised to get more joint documents for the next interview in 2 years. I mean surely we will have more joint documents together as I start working. But we are at the beginning of anything right now, our life together our careers and stuff.

That’s my story and good luck to anyone!

RaptureSongbird - ROC at 3 years and give people a chance to pick that or natz. My thoughts exactly. Yes they would lose out on those fees but they're meant to cover the cost of reviewing and adjudicating an application, not of making money, presumably. The issue is that would require a change in immigration law, and we know how difficult that is to pass - regardless of administration.

Just got some good news!  I just logged into the DHS site and our case has finally switched to "Your card is being produced" as of June 8th.  When I logged in during the morning on Friday, it still said "Your case has been received" so I wasn't expecting this update.  I just logged in on a whim tonight and was surprised to see this status.  So, hopefully, we'll have the green card this week.  I am so happy to have this step almost over.  We also feel very lucky to have gone from submission to card received in only 4 months.  I'll keep checking in and let everyone know once we receive the card.  Good luck everyone!

RaptureSongbird got a reaction from mariange8282 in Do I need to complete I-693 for AOS? K1-VISA
As long as you had all of the required immunizations and they were marked as completed or waived during your medical exam, you don't need to have another medical or complete the I-693.  My partner was missing a few immunizations so after his arrival, we got those done and had a Civil Surgeon complete the I-693 for us.  The medical is valid for 1 year for a K1 so as long as you start the AOS process within that time, you should be fine.  There have been a few discussions here, and a few different experiences, with that 1 year timeframe.  Sometimes AOS will take a long time to complete and you may be required to do another medical exam which they would inform you about either at the interview or via an RFE.  However, the instructions state that the medical is valid as long as AOS is started within the year timeframe and some people have not had to do a medical again even if AOS goes beyond the year mark.  Good luck!

Just got back from our interview in Chicago.  Overall I think it went well but wasn't told if we were approved or not at the end.  Our interview was scheduled for 11:45am but we weren't taken back to the office until a little after 1:00pm.  After the oath, it started off a little odd, the IO asked if we had a pending/had brought an I-130, as there was a note on file about one, but I told her no, there wasn't one and asked if we needed to fill one out.  She looked quickly and said that since we were adjusting from a K-1 it wasn't necessary and she wasn't sure why there was that note.  After that she asked if we had any additional documents we wanted to present her that weren't included in the original submission.  I proceed to give her a copy of our new lease, joint bills, joint bank statements, insurance and beneficiary documents, and a few other documents that I had.  I then asked her if she had the pictures from our original I-129f in her files, which she did not and didn't seem to have anything from the I-129f which I thought was odd since I've read others here stating they saw their IO with it, so I presented her with the photos I included for that submission along with photos from then up until about 2 weeks ago.  She then proceed to work through the I-485 with my partner, telling me that I could not answer any of the questions, and only he should respond.  Along the way going through those a question came up that I needed to respond to on a issue he brought up and I was hesitant to speak but finally spoke up and the IO seemed fine with the answer.  She then started with the Yes and No questions, did the first 5-7 right from the sheet, and then jumped around through the rest of the questions.  I was very happy that she didn't ask all of them and at that point she asked him to sign the I-485.  She then turned to the I-864 and said that it was reviewed and stamped as I made enough to support my partner.  She asked about my job, what I do, and if my salary has changed.  After I explained where I worked we spent a couple of minutes talking about my job, what I do, what the company does, etc.  She then looked at the medical documents, we had to submit an I-693 as my partner didn't have all of his shots before coming to the USA, and said that all looked good.  She then asked about when my partner first arrived, if he has been outside of the US since arrival, and if he's been working.  She then said she just had a few more questions that either of us could answer.  She asked how we met and how the proposal happened, what we did on my visits to see him, when my trips to see him were, and a few other questions that I can't remember right now.

The last set of questions she asked I was a little surprised to hear but I'm glad she asked them so we could further prove our relationship.  She said "I see that there is an age difference between the two of you, how does that work out?"  We do have a bit of an age gap, 15 years, and my partner answered the question really well.  I then popped in with my response and I think she was satisfied with how we answered and smiled.  She then asked "So, your family is okay with this relationship?" and my partner explained that they were and that I had met his mom and then I explained that my family was too and that we had spent Thanksgiving and Christmas with them, as shown in the pictures, and they were happy for us.  She wrapped up by asking if we had any questions, so I took this chance to ask about the next steps in the process if we are approved and she explained the conditional green card, the 10 year green card, and that he would have the option to apply for citizenship in 3 years.  With her response I felt like we were more on the approval side of things.  I then asked about if we needed to register him for selective service or if that would be taken care of with the I-485, since I thought there was something in the instructions that mentioned that, and she said she wasn't sure, so I said that to be safe it would probably be best if we registered him ourselves and she said yes but that she can't give legal advice but can only offer recommendations.  Finally I asked about the pending EAD and said assuming everything goes okay with today, will that just be cancelled.  She told me yes, it would just be withdrawn and he would use his green card for work authorization.  I then followed-up asking about getting a new social security card that doesn't have the mention about DHS work authorization and if we should get a new one and she said yes, when his green card arrives we should go to the social security office to get a new card.  This response also helped me to feel a little more confident that we would be approved but she never stated anything or gave us any additional paperwork.  We then thanked her for her time and she walked us out.  We were out, back to the lobby, around 1:25, so a total of about 20-25 minutes in the interview.

Like I said, overall I think it went really well and our IO was really friendly.  She felt comfortable enough with us that she was smiling at times and laughing along with us during certain points.  She really helped the atmosphere to feel relaxed and brought down my nerves a bit, I was really happy that we ended up with her.  I think she saw from our interactions and talking about each other that we are in a bonafide relationship and I really hope that I'm reading her behavior, smiles, and comfort with us in the right way leaning towards approval.  We had a long drive back home and haven't received any text notifications of updates to the case yet.  We did log into the DHS site and the USCIS site and neither show any updates on our case as of yet.  Now we just have to wait and see what happens.

Dont worry, it may take a little longer than other cases but I believe soon you will get it update or receive GC. They may need to check something more but keep your mind up that everything will be good.

My interview was on April 27 and it went well, after that the status changed to Interview was completed and my case must be reviewed for about  3 weeks, I just got updated this week that my case is approved on DHS site and card was mailed to me this morning. So totally it took about a month. Don't think about it too much then it will come Best of luck to you

    Hi all,
today I received an initial interview letter for my AOS at Raleigh office. My interview is on June 25th. My NOA1 date is Feb 21 and I am adjusting from K1 here. We are super happy and hoping and praying the interview does not get cancelled (as some Raleigh filers have had that update).
My husband is in the military and is deploying in July so this really couldn't have come at a better time for us. Good luck to you all on getting your interview dates and I'll keep you all updated,

I can understand the OP's frustration to some degree.  You could argue that USCIS's instructions are a bit misleading regarding the supporting evidence required.  The marriage is bona fide, but the USCIS officer refused to acknowledge any of the evidence and seems to have been rude on top of that.  That sucks.

But so what?  The whole immigration process is designed to suck.  If you want to immigrate you need to embrace the suckiness and find a way to work with it.
