According to the OP, CBP never saw his immigrant visa. He thinks the Green Card will be mailed without having CPB processed his entry. Personally, I don't trust the answer he got from the USCIS tier 1 rep.

We folded wife's original extension letter. No issues. The original can be distinguished from a copy.

No matter what the CBP officer puts on the visa endorsement, USCIS should look at date of marriage and date of entry into the US. If USCIS makes a mistake and issues 2 year card, you submit an I-90 with "USCIS Error" as the reason. There is no charge for that. Make sure that CBP endorses the visa. That is important.
