I had my interview at the Chicago field office this morning and passed. I checked in around 20 minutes before my appointment, and I was called in by the officer for the interview about 15 minutes after my appointment time. The interview was 15 minutes total.

    Questions:
    1. What does the President's cabinet do?
    2. If both the President and Vice President can no longer serve, who becomes President?
    3. Name one branch or part of the government?
    4. How many justices are on the Supreme Court?
    5. What did the Declaration of Independence do?
    6. We elect a U.S. senator for how many years?

The officer interviewing me was insanely nice; she was probably the nicest person I've ever had to deal with through this entire long process, so it was a nice finish. She took my passport, green card, state ID, and the appointment notice as soon as we got into her office. She then took my picture and my fingerprints. She went onto the civics/history and the reading/writing tests. When I passed, she went through my application and asked me some random questions (your phone number, address, spouse's full name, where do you work?). She then asked me all the yes/no questions on the N-400. She only wanted to see my certified marriage cert. and my spouse's original birth cert. No 2016 tax stuff... weird but okay!

An important note: I did not submit passport photos with my original application, and she did ask me for these. Luckily, I brought some with me just in case. I am doing a name change. She explained that people doing a name change need the passport photos, regardless of what the updated N-400 instructions say. I'd say everyone should bring them to be safe, but you apparently need them if you're doing a name change?

At the end, she handed me a piece of paper indicating that I passed the tests and my application was being recommended for approval. She said that the actual oath ceremony would likely be in two months according to her estimate with current cases, but I would be receiving a notice for a date and location in a few weeks.

I'm in the Chicago area, and I also got an email notice last night that my interview is scheduled and the interview notice is on the way! I was worried the Chicago field office was going to take a lot longer with interview scheduling.

If she has met the eligibility, she can apply for unemployment benefits.
Nothing to do with I-864, unless she applies for means-tested benefits .e.g., Medicaid, food and nutrition benefits (SNAP program), housing assistance, etc.

    Dear Mithukhan432,
You probably have no idea what you are talking about. So let's make this clear to you:
    - once you become a US citizen you does not change.
    - you can get divorced x number of time and no matter what your spouse does, it will have no impact on your immigration status.
All the information you are providing to get some suggestion are based out of incorrect information and I don't think anyone can give you the right information. So please find out the right information and then people's with similar experience can help you. What you are saying just doesn't make any sense as that don't happen either by law or by any chance.
You can always get married and depending on her immigration status the application process will take different amount of time (IR1/CR1 could be a better/safer option). During the entire application process you will be need to prove your marriage in various ways and finally have to convince in person at Dhaka Embassy. Age would not be a big problem but questions will come as that. It that common in Bangladesh, but it's not a deal breaker.
For you to appear before an interview will probably take long time if she didn't file an application yet. For IR1/CR1 this may take 9 months to 5 years for you to get an interview drowning in her status (GC or citizen) and if you visit the step by step guide here: http://www.visajourney.com/content/i130guide1
. As you will be filling the I-130 form, this will also state what USCIS will need from you. After you are done with USCIS then NVC will let you know what they want and when they are satisfied, your case will move to Dhaka embassy.
So get your story straight and the. Think what you will do. If you get the VJ users confused, I can't imagine what you will do the the visa officer. So please make sure you know the entire process first and then know what you are doing, else you will just get into trouble.
    Best of luck

Texas does not issue DLs for limited terms to permanent residents. The period of validity for a Texas DL for a permanent resident is the same for a US citizen regardless of the expiry date on your green card.

This is an interesting one! Talk to your girlfriend, mithukhan432. If she still thinks she lost her citizenship (very unlikely, if not completely impossible), then it may be worthwhile for her to talk to an attorney to help her understand. She's either misunderstanding her status, lying, or her ex-husband is lying to her. Maybe there's even some miscommunication between you and your girlfriend. I hope it comes down to a simple misunderstanding.
    ... let us know.

There's a statutory period by which a green card cannot be revoked if it was received through AOS. It's possible to lose U.S. citizenship if you willfully misrepresented a material fact on your application though.
Edit: OP's girlfriend came on a K3 though.
I really think she just doesn't understand her status...

    ^ Yep.
As an extra note, my lawyer advised on waiting until name change (for me, the USC petitioner) until my husband is in the U.S. as well. Having a name change in the middle of the process can potentially cause issues and delays and IMO is not worth the risk. Also, it does not make your marriage appear more bona-fide to have the same name, so don't let that influence your decision if you were thinking so
Like daigo said, though, if you think you can get everything changed quickly enough for her, it's perfectly acceptable, too.

Yeah, you won't need it. Canada was the country of your previous residence and since you lived there for less than 1 year, it's not necessary to obtain.

Dana, besides the 1-year ban the consulate will require that she be tested every three months to confirm she is not using, still. She must have been given the details so make sure you go over them with her. There is more to it than just waiting a year and reapplying. She will need to prove she remains clean for a year, as well.
A lawyer will not help because her case is textbook and there are no appeals against a positive drug test, even for marijuana.

daigo reacted to Villanelle in re: CR1-visa entered the country without my knowledge
I just want to make a few clarifications regarding this and its meant for all viewers. Using a visa not as intended can be considered fraud. But according to USCIS the CR/IR visas are issued under a family unity act but they are not technically considered to be the reason issued. The reason issued is to enter the US and obtain perm residency. So therefore its not considered fraud to enter and not reunite.
We did have a user on who was in the exact situation but he was the immigrant. He was advised he would NOT be breaking any laws by entering and rather it was a moral issue on whether or not to use the visa knowing it was issued because of a marriage that was no longer viable.
Fall where you may morally on the issue but realize "fraud" was not committed according to USCIS.

You filed for a CR-1. That means you were married before she came. You dated someone, you proposed, you decided to marry and spend your life with that person. How long were you together before you got married? You then proved bonafide marriage with your I-130. You proved it again with her consular interview, which she passed.
Now you split up. She sounds like a horrible human being. But where's the fraud? You proved it was real. It didn't work out. Infidelity and being a terrible human being aren't fraud. Now, divorce. I hope you divorce and move on, which means giving up your quest to hurt her with immigration. Let it go. Immigration isn't going to do anything. Its a losing battle.
I feel really bad for you. It sucks she's with an ex's relative, but you need to focus on yourself, on moving on, on making sure that your next relationship is better. Make sure you really know the person before you decide to marry them. She won't change, but you can change yourself.

Sorry to hear of your situation but, yes, if your I-485 was approved, you should be able to get an I-551 stamp in your passport on the spot at your local USCIS office, especially given the circumstances. The I-551 is functionally equivalent to a GC. Make the infoPass appt ASAP and they should be able to resolve it right then and there.
Just tell them your situation and I would bring: the I-485 approval letter, the bad GC, your EAD/AP and your foreign passport.
Actually, it's been a while since my wife's AOS, so I don't even remember if there is an I-485 approval letter but you should have your LPR Welcome Kit that came with the GC, if I recall correctly.

And my only point here is to consider whether the possibility, however small, of losing several hours of your life over this is worth it or not. That is, sitting down and determining what is more likely (losing the GC vs. being detained for not having it on you until your status is verified) and what is more expensive (paying for a replacement GS vs losing two hours of your life).

The difference is that the citizens are not required to carry proof of citizenship and LPRs are required to carry proof of LPR status which is why they're also more likely to be detained in that situation until their immigration status is verified if they don't carry proof of it.

You don't have to be prosecuted to have your day ruined--just being detained over it would be enough if you ask me (admittedly, more of a risk for those traveling in the areas with CBP checkpoints).
