So the title says it all really, my GC is due to expire next year and i had to renew it as it had the date of the work permit. When i went to renew and change the address she took a scan of my green card, i had to actually tell her to look at my green card, not sure if she knew what she was really doing. Today i received it and it expires in 2022, i thought it would be the last date on my green card. I have a feeling this is incorrect?! I feel like i am always fixing other peoples mistakes in this country nothing like this goes right :(

It says what it says. It's your DL, it expires in 2022. That's a good thing, right?

Well no because i am concerned that the woman selected i am a citizen, and i don't want to look like i am misreping anything

You filled out an application for that DL. As long as you didn't check USC on that, you are OK.

Texas. Definitely wouldn't tick a box saying i am a citizen but don't recall a question asking to be honest, i did give her my green card though which made it very clear i was not but not sure she looked at the expiration date. My old license said 'limited term' this one doesn't.

Texas does not issue DLs for limited terms to permanent residents. The period of validity for a Texas DL for a permanent resident is the same for a US citizen regardless of the expiry date on your green card.

really? damn it, well i hope DPS ignores that long email i just sent them lol. My first two liscenses expired on my visa dates so assumed the same would happen for this.

Here's some info I found from DPS on it, if you care: https://www.txdps.state.tx.us/DriverLicense/documents/verifyingLawfulPresence.pdf

Don't sweat. You're good!

  • 2 weeks later...

I am in a different state (Florida) but I've have only been here for 6wks and exactly 1 month after arriving was when I got my appointment at the DMV to get my driver's license. I checked out the GatherGoGet website link for the DMV in Florida and there were the requirements for Permanent Residents. My mother inlaw went with me but all the lady took was my passport with my temporary i551 stamp (GC still in production), proof of my SSN and a utility bill for proof of address.

I did my vision test and got my photo taken after successfully completing the online multiple choice test, then she took the car insurance info and asked me where I was parked. She told me to get my vehicle and meet her at the entrance of the Testing Area which I did. I did my test, I passed and then she said to come back to her counter to have the process completed. At the counter, she took my country's driver's permit to log the info to show that I was a previous driver and did not need to do the 4-hr DATA test that new/first-time drivers have to.

When I got my Florida driver's license, the expiration was 2024.

I don't think you have anything to worry about. :)
