  1. File the I-131, application for travel, and the I-765 authorization to work, in the same packet with the adjust status/green card application. That way you can get authorization to work and advanced parole while you wait for the green card application and there is no extra fee to do this. I spent a around a month after my courthouse wedding on adding my spouse's name to as much as I could including utilities bills, bank accounts, credit card authorized signer, apartment lease, vehicle insurance. Anytime I was met with 'resistance' like 'we can't do that" I emphasized that I was doing this for immigration purposes to prove residency blah blah blah and that seemed to do the trick lol. So by the time I sent in the packet(s) I had a nice little pile of various documents that had both of our names on stuff. Double and triple-check everything before you send it in AND make a copy or 2 of everything in the packet. Practice filling out the form a few times, as I did, to avoid any mistakes or typos. Good luck and take your time! Application for Travel Document | USCIS
  2. just circling back to report that my friend was able to complete the steps with CBP One this past Weds the 3rd. Found out that CBP's info doesn't automatically update when USCIS does. Someone at USCIS has to click something to update the info with CBP for the app to also have the updated / corrected info which took a few days as you can see. Thankfully it didn't take another month! Now she just has to wait for her travel auth (her husband and kids have theirs already)!
  3. Ocarina of Time, Super Smash Bros, and Perfect Dark for the N64 are my jam!...and because I don't have a fancy modern game system
  4. I'm just glad I'm locked in at 2.75 when they dropped the interest rates like gravity drops the ice-cream from my cone on a hot day. I used to work as a mortgage loan processor for 2.5 years- now I'm a business service associate. I guess I understand the "why" behind this as far as giving people with lower credit a better chance to buy a house; however, I also echo what most of these other comments say, that it can't possibly end well long-term. There was always the whole idea of "risk" that the borrower had to overcome; how's that going to work when their credit score indicates otherwise. I am glad I'm not an underwriter! I just asked the mortgage officer here at the bank about it and he stated that it's not as bad as people are making it out to be as far as the difference in cost; a person with a higher score potentially pays 10k more over the life of the loan. They don't have to put more money down or anything like that - which is what he said. That, boys n girls, is why I always pay more than the monthly payment; I don't need to drag a debt with me for 30 stinkin' years if I can help it!
  5. 2.5 months later and USCIS finally updated my friend's DOB! she's stuck in getting the CBP one app to work. Keeps coming back with an error message stating "record not found" even though all her other info is correct, passport, A number etc.. Has anyone else ran into this issue? Not sure if there's any other solution than to just keep trying until it finally works?
  6. I am not sure about that. do those locations have their own websites? All else fails, have the CR significant other call and just ask. I would still see if you or your stepson can pay the fee online from the online account that the DS160 was submitted; less running around to do. I'm 92% sure that I paid the visa fee from my spouse's usvisa docs account after I filled out the 160 for him,.
  7. Did you see this page on US travel docs? Apply for a U.S. Visa | Bank and Payment Options/Pay My Visa Fee - Costa Rica (English) (ustraveldocs.com) Not sure if CR is similar to Nica but I paid via online; what I can't remember is if I did it from my then-fiance's account or if I just made my own.
  8. Unfortunately USCIS STILL hasn't made the correction and when the sponsors call they aren't able to give a time for resolution. Her husband and 2 kids have their travel auths but can't really do anything until someone at USCIS completes the correction for her. and here's my rant........... How can that take 2 months to do! Can't anyone see this unread message in their inbox since FEBRUARY! COME ON!..........end rant Regarding astrazeneca vaccines. Other Nicas have traveled via parol with Astrazeneca with no problems according to the whatsapp chat I am a part of.
  9. Can take anywhere from 30 minutes to a few days. My friend, for example, family of 4. Took 1 month, from mid/end of feb to mid/end of March
  10. I just got charged for submitting work authorization for a good friend we are sponsoring via the humanitarian program. It's labeled as "USCIS I-765, 800-375-5283 DC20579 US" I would think you could at least let your CC company know the amount that will be charged if we don't know the exact name
  11. lol right, I kept telling myself that. It's like waiting at a stoplight...EVENTUALLY it will be your turn!
  12. Our citizenship process took 640-ish days. Ref: my signature below
  13. Thank you for the advice. This is also why I wanted to ask you all since I don't trust lawyers either after reading about all the awful experiences people have had with them on this forum. Definitely not ones from ND where immigration stuff is something you only see on TV especially where all this happened, New Rockford ND. The only foreign thing in that part of ND is the Chinese Buffet 30 minutes down the road.
  14. This happened a while ago and some of the details may be iffy. The mom filed whatever she was supposed to file to extend their stay as they had always done. Somewhere along the line it either got lost in the mail or lost in the depths of USCIS and didn't get done. Whatever the case then they became illegal due to that, I guess? She was then stopped for a traffic stop later and asked to produce papers, which is surprising for that to happen in ND. Of course, she doesn't have what they are looking for so she gets send to jail and the immigration court cases begin, with help from an attorney. Where they are right now is that they are placed under this period prosecutoral discretion. My dad who was at that particular court case (we are good friends with them) and when he recalls the verbiage from the judge is that they are allowed to stay as long as they don't do anything illegal which grants them this authorized stay.
  15. They have one that has been helping them with this court stuff. Do you have any insight the adjust status questions
  16. Good morning, This is not for me but for my friend who just passed his citizenship test and is awaiting the ceremony. His folks are from the Philippines. Came on a nurse visa or something like that 2 decades ago and are still here. Won't get into details as I am not entirely sure all that has happened since unless it's needed and then I can find out; but his parents currently have work authorizations and are in a period of "prosecutoral discretion" for the past 10 years (maybe less but that's how long it feels like) due to court cases endlessly being delayed and rescheduled . Question 1: My rudimentary understanding is that since the parents are here and came through legal means that their son, once he does the oath ceremony, can file for his parents. He needs to file 2 I-130s, 2 I-485s, 2 I-864s altogether to begin the process to adjust their status to become permanent residents. Is this correct? Question 2: Since he would be filing all these at the same time, he wouldn't have a receipt number would he? Put N/A, or filed concurrent? This question is on the I-485 Thank you for any guidance you can offer.
  17. is there a specific reason for delaying filing those? I filed about a month after my husband and I got hitched after adding him to as many things as I could, just to get the ball rolling and to stand in the immigration line for Green cards. My opinion is to file as soon as possible
  18. Put 0. You currently have no dependents. I left preparer, interpreter sections Blank after putting N/A in the first box for those sections
  19. If you, or her, has $160 for the fee to spare there's no harm in trying. Tourist visas can be difficult to get especially when there is a Northamerican significant-other involved. The embassy officer that does the 2-minute (if that!) interview assumes that the applicant is going to violate the terms of the visa, disappear, and overstay their visa; it is up to the applicant, your lady, to overcome that assumption. What circumstances in her life compels her to return to her life in Kenya? Unfortunately, there is no magic formula we can tell you with certainty that assures the success of a tourist visa; jobs, families/kids, properties, education...you name it, can all easily be left behind for the good 'ole 'murican dream. You may need to prepare to find a way to go see her, or "meet in the middle" in a 3rd country. Always have plan B, and even plan C! The only option I had was to go see my husband (then boyfriend) because he couldn't overcome the assumption to get it. Thank all the jerks who, in the past, violated the terms and ended up disappearing and living in the US, making it that much harder for the rest of us. I echo what others have said and what your idea is, you need face to face time! Good luck! This website is a cornucopia of awesome info with lots of veterans in the immigrations-world with real-life experiences!
  20. many people have taken advantage of this program to get their spouse or fiancé here this route. The only requirement is that the sponsor has status in the US and the funds to support the people/persons and the beneficiary is from one of the 4 countries without residency or refugee status in another county. My husband and I are sponsoring his best friend to take advantage of this program: work and experience our most fabulous ND winters lol. Took about 1 month from submitting the I-134A to sponsor-approval and that wait time is lengthening with each passing day as more and more applications are filed.
  21. Always good to see a fellow member representing Nicaragua! So My folks ended up submitting their personal tax transcript, bank statement, and 401k quarterly statement and left the LLC's alone/didn't include and were approved. We are just dealing with another small mess of one of the beneficiaries' DOB off by 1 digit (birth month is 11 instead of 10). Learned after a month of waiting for a response in the secure inbox on their USCIS my account that they have to upload a signed letter. Unbelievable it took them a month to click in. We are really hoping it doesn't take an additional month for someone to go in there and make the change as the travel authorizations are only good for 90 days. 30 of those days are gone just because it's taking so long for any kind of online response
  22. No that’s ok. Thank you for offering. In the depths of the USCIS website the number they give is 15 calendar days but not more than 30 calendar days for resolution
  23. Thank you for responding. Do you recall how long it took for them to make the correction?
  24. Am not sure if I am posting this in the right forum. Have a friend who noticed her DOB is off by one number when she logs on to myaccount USCIS. Sent in an e-request under "typographical error" and waiting if they respond. Wondering if anyone else here has had experience with this kind of thing or just generally has an idea if this is something that can be fixed? She is on the last step with using the CBP one app to get advanced travel authorization with the parole program for Haitians, Cubans, Venezuelans, and Nicaraguans and cannot proceed to finalize requesting this due to her biographical data not matching her passport. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. I helped her file the e-request option on the USCIS site but am not sure if we just have to wait?
