Hi, for the online submission, did you need to download the N400 form, fill it out and then upload it?

No. The questions are electronically answered. There is no form you have to upload.

You can start your application now, you can save it at any time during the process and exit out. When you are eligible you can submit and pay.

I started the application about a month ago, and submitted just today, as my window to apply opened yesterday.

This is the timeline for someone who filed and their file is with Nebraska. Someone reported me for being "rude" because they told folks that the timeline for LIN was about 3 months. (their file is NOT at LIN) They told me I was "incorrect" when  I was telling someone whose file is at LIN that it takes from 6 to 8 months, it seems to hear anything. I guess some would say the person is a 'know it all'. I am with LIN so I watch the timelines of those filed there and who have timelines. Guess we just have to be patient!

Yes, this is my timeline. I can attest. At least for me it was 7 months.

  3. Online Filing

The agency’s transition from paper applications to a fully digital experience continues to be an important priority for USCIS. Consequently, USCIS continues to expand our online filing capabilities.

    • In FY 2019, 1,214,300 applications were filed online, a 10.4% increase from the 1,100,242 filed in FY 2018.
    • USCIS added three forms (N-600, N-600K, and I-539) during FY 2019 for a total of eight forms (I-90, I-131A, N-336, N-400, N-565, N-600, N-600K and I-551) available now for online filing.
    • USCIS plans to add several more forms for electronic filing during FY 2020, including the I-485, I-765, I-131, I-129 and I-589.
    • Additionally, USCIS stood up FIRST, the federal government’s first fully electronic FOIA/Privacy Act request and delivery system that allows users to submit and track FOIA requests and receive documents digitally. In FY 2019, more than 26,000 electronic responses have been delivered to indivduals with online accounts.

What do you guys think about this?

Mods - please move this to correct forum, not sure if this is the right forum to post.

First, thanks for letting me know what “the law” is. Where would we be without snarky people on forums? Second, USCIS has and does accept I-751’s (without divorce waiver) before the 90 day window. Someone in the Sept 2019 filers just had it happen. So, maybe hold back on your shame attempts there. USCIS is inconsistent at times. We all know that to be true at this point in the process. Ours was 2 days early. They could have placed it in a basket and dealt with it in 2 days rather than waste postage money returning it.

Thanks for the info on the service centers.

I was not trying to be snarky. I have never seen people being accepted before the 90 days when filing jointly. That's all.

If that was how you interpreted, I apologize.

    Good luck.

    Sent 10/2

    Rec’d 10/4

    Text notification 10/10

    Check still hasn’t been cashed

First attempt in Sept was rejected because it was rec’d 2 days early! Utterly ridiculous.

The law is the law, even if it would have been received at 11:30 PM on the day before your window opens it would have been rejected.

Otherwise there would be people that would send their I-751 whenever they want after receiving their Conditional Green Card.

It's a different story when filing with a divorce waiver, you can file at any time after you get the divorce decree.

How do you know which center your case is assigned to? Will it say on the receipt notice or can you learn this from the receipt number they texted to us?

The first three letters of your receipt will indicate the Service Center that is handling your case.

    LIN - Nebraska Service Center

    WAC - California Service Center

    EAC - Vermont Service Center

    SRC - Texas Service Center

    MSC - National Benefits Center

    YSC - Potomac Service Center

What does your receipt number start with?

    Thank you very much....that helps.

@vbms You can use their official tool to calculate when you can apply.

    https://www.uscis.gov/forms/uscis-early-filing-calculator

You are eligible for citizenship on or after 11/24/2019 if you are filing under the 3 year rule, or 11/24/2021 if filing under the 5 year rule.

I hope everyone will get the good news soon. USCIS never sent me email about my case, my status on USCIS homepage is still the same ("you do not need to do anything"), but I check my case status for so many times in a day and got this update since yesterday morning. The wait is (almost) over. :dancing:

    Congratulations!

  7. @changbaihou Don't file the I-90 yet. They did not tell you the tracking number because Tier 1 agents are just reading what you can read online.

Call back and ask for a Tier 2 officer and they will be able to tell you the tracking number assigned to you.

I checked a few cases that were approved around my case and for the ones that says Card Was Mailed To Me on 10/7 there is no change as of 12 PM EDT.

Also, if you don't receive it by October 22, 2019 and it's not marked as delivered by USPS you can submit a request without filing the I-90.

Read your case status. "If you do not receive your card by October 22, 2019, please go to www.uscis.gov/e-request to request that we send your new card to you."

    Hi y'all!

I'm hoping to send mine out on the weekends! My 5th year anniversary window opened on 09/09/2019. Which one is better: online or paper? Or they don't matter? And if you submit via online, how do you send the supporting documents? Excuse my ignorance please😉

Online is simplified and faster to fill out and you don't have to worry about USPS losing your package :)

Payment is made online via CC or Check.

Best advantage is that you get all your documents online before you get them in the mail.

You can upload supporting documents under the Evidence tab.

At what time did you get the message from USPS regarding the tracking number? noon? evening or mid-night?

The USCIS case status says "card was mailed to me" on 10/7,

Then no more update. No tracking number shows up at USPS informed delivery website either.

Why wired thing always happen on me? 😥

It was around 4 PM EDT, the following day after the status updated to Card Was Mailed To Me.

Also the case status changes to card was mailed to me when they print the card and put it in the envelope. It does not mean that they actually shipped the card. They send thousands of cards daily and they might wait to take a larger batch to the USPS.

I can only imagine how packed the Corbin, KY post office is with USCIS packages :)

Well it happed to a friend’s wife, she put in her N 400 because I 751 was taking a little longer. She never got the approval until she was invited for neutralization interview. After the interview the officer told her, she was good for approval, but that won’t be possible until I 751 is approved first. So same day she was led with her husband to another office where she with her husband was interview briefly by another IO. She it was 2 to 3 questions, she was approved on the spot, then taken back to the N 400 office she got approved for the  N 400 same day. Till she was sworn and got the citizenship, the 10yrs green card never came, and till this minute, they didn’t send it to her, but the good news is that she has US Passport now. Like I said this is a scenario I witnessed, but again you don’t have to believe it, you might call USCIS for a better concrete information. Thanks

USCIS won’t issue Green Cards if both I-751 and N-400 are approved at the same time. There is no point sending you the card as you have to return it at the oath ceremony.

I got my approval notice today, but on the right side of the letter, there is an admission date and mine says 01/01/0001....which just seems weird...

There is no effect. Admission date is for CR-1. You adjusted while in the US.

"You are deemed to be a lawful permanent resident of the United States as of your original admission or adjustment of status"

I have the same date on my approval notice. Received the Green Card with the correct Residence Since Date.

    Thank you for that information.

I guess I would love to know about people who are not divorced and are still married and having a kid. I am in that situation so I just want to know how it is for those people. Are they asked about more evidence or they are still waiting?

But thank you for sharing. Congrats again! Good luck with N-400 now. Is it the same wait period for you now that you are divorced to file for N-400? just curious.

The 3 year rule no longer applies in this case. @Eileenaichan will be eligible for citizenship using the 5 year rule.
