All posts violating the TOS have been removed, along with those quoting them. Administrative action has been taken.
We have a number of same sex couples on VJ. Please be mindful of what you post. Thank you.

    Another point to consider.
Admin and VJ moderators have a record of really, really, really, hating it when people create sockpuppets.
They also have a record of not rushing to judgment on whether a VJ screen name is a sockpuppet. In fact, they usually take months. Log after log after log is collected and analyzed.
If they are sockpuppets, Admin is watching and looking for evidence.
If they're still around by the end of 2013, that means they never were sockpuppets and all of you owe them an apology.
Maybe I have multiple personality disorder.

You are quite right. But it has to be the British citizen with the income.... not the spouse. That's the point. Or, at least, one of the points. There are many more stated if you'd read the thread.

Krikit got a reaction from user19000 in change back to my maiden name
I'm a bit confused as to why she would need a court order to change her name back. Her former name will always be legal so she can always use it. If she chooses to use her husband's name that is also legal. Also not understanding why some people are taking this personally. There are tons of people who don't adopt the husband's last name for any number of reasons. We're not back in the last century you know.

You can actually bring in houseplants as well as long as you have a phytosanitary certificate for it issued by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.
Like VeeNDee, I was worried as well, so I made 2 lists - new stuff- and stuff I had had for more than a year. I also brought along with me on our drive south all of the 'new' items I had in my possession, including my wedding dress, and my houseplants. I also had 6 cats in carriers. The rest of my belongings were shipped with professional movers. At the POE, I brought in my file with the different lists and the phytosanitary certificates, but no one was interested. No one inspected the rental SUV we had either, so I would be prepared by having our gifts and new items itemized on a separate list, but I doubt you will have even be asked about it. What they are really interested in is someone smuggling in new items with the intent to resell them in the US and bypass paying duty. So, as long as you are not bringing in volumes of brand new music CD's or lots of electronics beyond what is usual for personal use, they are probably not going to be concerned.
Actually cheques that can be cashed that are over $10,000 do need to be declared as well. Any sort of foreign currency that is immediately negotiable needs to be properly declared, not just cash. There is no tax or anything on it, but they want to know about it - again because it is part of ensuring foreign money isn't being used to support terrorist or criminal activities. There is a form that you fill out at the border if you are bringing in more than $10,000.

File for your marriage certificate immediately. Ontario is notorious in that it takes months to receive. You won't be able to file for a CR-1 visa without it.
As Inky says.... NEVER "pretend" to be anything when talking to a CBP Officer. There are serious consequences for that. Always be truthful.
Scratch ".. might not let us pass the border with a u-haul truck... " and make that "... will not let us pass the border with a u-haul truck... "
I am going to move your thread from the K-1 Process forum to the CR-1 forum, as that is the visa you will be going for. Also check out the Canada Regional forum for country-specific questions as every country is different.

Your argument is redundant at best. I didn't beg or bait you, you baited yourself. This is a public forum, true, but you didn't have to respond, and yet once again we are caught in the same dance because you can't seem to say a single civil thing to me. You asked what the video was for, I responded. No baiting, no begging. I thought you would just let it go since it had nothing to do with you or even this topic. But then you had to say it didn't look like a muslim ceremony. No reason why it didn't look like it, it just doesn't to you. Now, had you asked some questions like, did you convert before or after, who presided over the ceremony, did you pay a dowry, or the like, I could have answered you properly. But when I asked what was off, then you declined to answer. So who was baited? And Karee asked the same question, what does a muslim couple look like, because all of my sisters in laws wedding look just like mine. You say you aren't an expert, but you were quick to say my beliefs aren't of Islam, so which it it?
And how do my in laws look different from me? I am wearing the same garb as they are, and even matching colors. Or, could it be because I'm a different color? Nah, that can't be it. Religion doesn't know any color.

There are guides here on VJ that are your friend. There’s even one on “what visa do we need”.
If the plans are firm for your wedding you will be chasing the CR-1 Visa. Look at the guide for that.
Your wife CANNOT “move” to the US without an immigrant visa. She can “visit” you after the honeymoon but will have to spend at least half of the time of the wait for the visa in ON.
She can visit back and forth that is not an issue as long as she can show ties to Canada.
NEVER, EVER LIE AT THE BORDER! This can get her barred from the US.
She also cannot move her belongings until she gets her immigrant visa.
Right now the CR-1 visa is significantly faster than the K-1 (fiancé) visa. My husband petitioned for me in September and I am almost through the last phase and then it’ll be a month or two until I get my visa, however some Canadians have been processed quicker than I have but some people are taking even longer. It’s a ####### shoot right now based on how quickly your local office processes petitions.

Well, you may be able to buy them in the US but I'm not sure if you can bring them in from Canada. I just had a person sent back from US customs this past easter that had to dispose of his kinder eggs before crossing the border into the US. Maybe the US Customs guys didn't get the memo. If, it's the actual capsule that is the choking hazard and not the toy, then it's kind of humorous that two of the kinder eggs sent back where the giant versions and the capsules were as big as a 8 oz cup. Not sure how a kid was going to choke on that. Ah...good fun I had giving the US guys a ribbing on keeping the country safe when they called over to give us the heads up they were sending some folks back that had kinder eggs.

Maybe if you write it in caps and swear people will see what you wrote lol, don't complicate what is uncomplicated by giving too many facts. WIC IS FOR THE BABYYYYYYYYY, which means its perfectly fine. The baby is a US CITIZEN receiving nutrition, and was not included in the initial sponsor contract.
