    Welcome to the forum.
My husband has served state prison time (non-drug related offence) but also has been a drug user in the past. Assuming the crimes do not fall under the Adam Walsh Act, he will be able to petition you. If it's only drug-related crimes then these are not a problem.
I do think my husband's past is why our I-130 is taking so long to approve but we were prepared for that. We've already been through the process to get a visa for him to live in the UK (our first choice) and been denied.
Does he earn enough to sponsor you? I know that felons struggle to get jobs so he may need a joint sponsor.

If you received the email notification, it's pretty much the same thing. For some cases, there are instructions that you have to follow to set up an online account. That is most likely not the case for your petition, so I wouldn't worry about the instructions part. An NOA1 for I-130 basically just tells you what service center your file was sent to, case number, and is proof that you paid your fee. It might be a good idea to figure out an address to have your mail sent to from USCIS though. They'll notify you with NOA2 the same way you received NOA1. As long as you have your case number, that's all that matters for now.

    Welcome new filers!

Just a brief follow-up to the above, electronic notification as a result of submitting a G-1145 ends once you are notified that they have received your file and sent you a receipt number. If you want to receive additional updates via electronic notification, you would need to sign up for them via the USCIS website.

What you choose to do is ultimately your choice. Personally, I think if the petition can go, they should. Having the petitioner either on or nearby the premises can make a strong case that much stronger or it could be the difference between a positive result or a negative result.

EAD = Employment authorization document or work permit is required to work in the US legally. A person with an immigrant visa will become a permanent resident (green card holder) when he/she enters the US, and doesn't need a work permit because that person is already authorized to work and live permanently in the US.

This includes dorms at college, or temporary residences with the exception of like hotels.
For example I put down 18 moves, 13 different addresses. There were a few times where I stayed with my mom for a month at a time and I put down each of those moves.

Good luck to you, I went to the interview with my wife and brought along 4 years worth of tax transcripts and wouldnt you know it....
they asked for the W2 at the document counter (before the interview) and i said i didnt need it due to having the transcripts right? and the man said nope they still want the W2
I ran to the nearest computer and printed it from my payroll site...when I got up to the interview window they had the green denial sheet ready and filled out due to "no W2" and said i could email it to them for review, the officer was surprised when i handed it to him and he ripped the paper up.
not to get you scared but dont stop trying to get it, do what you can and go from there

The I-485 is only needed if your wife is already in the USA on a student or work or tourist visa. Since your wife is in her home country, you need one I-130 and a G-325a for each of you. You can also send G-1145 if you want to be notified by email or text alerts.

I didn't change my last name, and USCIS didn't care. They won't judge your marriage based on a last name change, if that's what you're worried about.

I believe the 6 months is tied to the medical. You must enter before the validity of the medical runs out. He can leave and return. It is best that he stays 6 months during the year to keep his PR.

I had my interview a few hours ago. I've just got home so here's a quick review"
First step - security. That was pretty easy, phones are now allowed. He also noticed from the xray that there was a spoon in my rucksack. At this moment, I knew I was in the hands of highly trained security. This was followed by an accurate observation that I had grown a beard since my passport photo. By now, I even began to feel sorry for ISIS.
You then walk around the building. Go inside, hand the girl from TOWIE your passport and your interview letter.
Then walk into this waiting room which I can only describe as a clinically obese version of a Doctors waiting room. There's a huge TV screen which shows numbers and everytime it's time for a new number it goes "PING" and puts which window you should goto. There weren't many people there. And I was the last to arrive for the 1:30 appointments. That's another thing - if your appointment is for 1:30, get there on the earlier side as you'll be seen quicker.
After an hour, "PING" I was called to give in my birth certificate, passport, interview letter, wedding certificate, police certificate, subject access report, courier letter and ds260 confirmation. She did not ask for the newest tax return that NVC wanted, or a new i864, which confused me a tad.
Then I got fingerprinted and sat back down.
After less than an hour, I was sat in the obese waiting room alone. I fell asleep in some weird yoga position where my head was under my armpit and left leg on the chair beside me. Then PING. Interview time.
The interview lady was lovely. Proper warm hearted and lovely conditioned hair (I didn't ask but I am assuming that she uses tre semme deep moisturising).
All she asked me about was where we met, first time we met in person, what we did and what we have done since. It was really easy as I've answered these questions a thousand times in general chit chat with clients and friends.
Then she said "youre approved." I smiled smile and smile so much that I forgot my teeth were English for a second. The interview was less than 5 minutes. And I was in the embassy for less than 2 hours.
The process can exaggerate concerns in your mind, at least it did for me. My first concern one was a conviction and another arrest a few years ago. Immediately she put me at ease and said they weren't a concern. This made answering the questions much simpler. Another one was an admin error on my subject access report giving the wrong place of birth. Again, no issue. And my final concern was forgetting some document so small but delaying the process (for example - if I hadn't have posted an earlier topic here, I would not have known to have taken the ds-260 confirmation). And for this, I have the forum and its members to thank. When I look back at how many forms, documents, fees, stages that are needed to get this visa - today's result fills me with such happiness. The help from this forum - not just on an advice level, but psychologically and seeing others in the exact same situations of missing loved ones... it does make the process that tad more bearable. So thank you all. Especially NichNick for usually been the first person to answer and always with the correct one.
Now, I cannot wait to start our new life in Houston. We already have a lease agreement on a condo and received the contract today too. I will be leaving the UK the day after my passport arrives, so hopefully later next week!
Thanks again all. And any questions, just let me know.

Some embassies (definitely Manila, but there are others too) use envelopes that are made with a corner missing. This is because the airport that the immigrants are leaving from (e.g Manila) wants to inspect that it really does contain just the visa documents and not a letter bomb or drugs. Obviously they cannot open the envelope to inspect it so it has a corner missing so that the security officials can inspect the contents without opening it. London doesn't use these envelopes. It will go through the X-ray along with the rest of your hand luggage at the airport.
The cut envelopes look like this

YoungRL reacted to JFH in Green Card Approved - time to enter US?
You won't get your green card before you go. You will have a spousal visa that allows to enter and become a permanent resident. They will stamp your passport upon arrival and this will act as temporary green card until the real thing is posted to you there.
The visa must be used to enter within 6 months of the date of your medical.

It takes about a year from filing to visa in hand. Everyone wishes it could go faster, but with immigration you should know that things take time and you need s lot of patience along the way.
You can visit, yes, but be sure to bring documents showing your ties to your home country and a return ticket, so the cbp is more likely to let you in.
Uscis phone line is known as the misinformation line, they often don't know what they're saying and give terrible advice.
What they suggested is fraud. You can follow the guide on the link I posted. You won't need as many forms and documents in the first step, the i130 petition.
The i131 is used when you're adjusting status, but not a guarantee you're allowed back in. Also, it takes a lot longer than a few weeks to get it, current timeline is around 3 months or longer.

It is an estimate based on how other VJ members have filled out their timelines and it only pertains from the time your file is received at USCIS to the time USCIS makes a decision. Once USCIS renders a decision on the petition, the timeline figure will no longer apply.

That's a decision only you can make. Before you make it, ask yourself these questions:
Are you comfortable filling out forms Do you understand all directions Are there any issues in your or your spouses background that could complicate things Based on backgrounds and your own comfort level in filling out the forms should determine whether or not you wish to do it yourself or to seek legal or professional assistance.
Regardless of what you choose to do, you will still have to gather all the evidence and required documents yourself.
