MariaLD reacted to naalite in K1 Visa in Bucharest, Romania. Trip Advise appreciated
My fiancee is Romanian and we are almost ready to schedule her interview for her k1 visa. We are looking for some advise from anybody who has been through the process in Romania before.
Specifically, my fiancee is from Cluj and knows very little about Bucharest. She is going to have to make a long journey to get there. Unfortunately, I can't be there with her, and she will have to travel alone. For the trip, we are primarily considering train or bus, but we have talked a little bit about flying. Any tips here?
We noticed that the medical exam is far from the embassy. Any tips on whether a bus or taxi should be taken in the city to get to these areas?
Another question concerns hotels. What areas are good to stay in? Should she stay closer to the embassy or the medical exam locations?
Anything else we need to consider?

    Hello, everyone!
This is my first post here so please excuse me if these matters have been discussed previously.
My husband and I have sent the N-400 forms and all the documents to USCIS on Dec 28th. We've received the appointment for biometrics and we went there together. Tonight I've received a notification that my case is pending the decision regarding the interview date while my husband's still in the "documents received" phase. Has this happened to anyone before? Any chances to end up with the interviews and/or oath ceremony the same day(s)?
    Thank you!

It is only $635 if you file their I-485 forms at the same time as you file yours. If you file for them after you have already submitted your own, then you must pay $985 for each of them instead. Filing for them at the same time as you will save you $700.

For applicants under 14 years of age: Filing with the I-485 application of at least one parent have a fee total of $635; Not filing with the I-485 application of at least one parent have a fee total of $985.

MariaLD reacted to Enigma23 in Fiance Visa or Marriage Visa? Best Option
Also any celebration or event religious or otherwise that can be considered a "marriage or wedding" has on occasion caused people to get denied for the K-1 visa as some Consular Officers look at is as married or as I have seen it put "not married enough for a Spouse visa but too married for K-1"...
And as said the Spouse visa can be a little bit longer but is cheaper and she arrives with full rights... similar to a USC.
Currently my Husband and i are waiting for his LPR so we can have our "real wedding and honeymoon" so that we can take a cruise honeymoon without any immigration hassle. Until the incoming immigrant has the LPR card (Greencard that is no longer green lol) The new immigrant has ot use their passport from their country and are restricted by their countries visa requirements. So if their country needs a visa normally after they arrive here they will need to apply for that visa to travel... If the come on the Spouse visa they can immediately work and travel freely on arrival as they are treated as if they are a US Citizen.
Looking back now.. this is the route we would have chosen.

K-1s are valid for six months from the date of the medical or the date of approval, whichever occurred first (for most people it's the medical).

Call USCIS and ask them for the date it was sent. Put in a service request if they didn't send it. Talk to tier 2 NOT tier 1.
Sometimes they don't send them right out. They send them in batches. Not everyday. Sometimes it might take 2 weeks for them to send it and another month before the NVC actually logs it in.
Then call NVC and tell them its been 3 months and you want to talk to a supervisor.

Bollocks, I knew we should have called sooner. We've been blindly hoping for a reply to our email for the last month.
It says "case was approved." Definitely an NVC thing now.

Thanks, I'll get on that tomorrow. It's interesting how we have similar timelines only a few weeks apart and both of our petitions seem to have gotten "lost." Good luck to you as well!

MariaLD reacted to angelboo31 in AOS Interview in El Paso, TX
Here is my review on our AOS interview yesterday.
We had our appointment at the El Paso, TX office at 10:15am (Mountain Time Zone). I didn’t realize that not all of Texas is in the Central time zone so we left a little too early. It took us a little over 4 hours to drive there. We entered the building at 9:30am and went through security (we were quite early). There were a few people in the waiting room and a few more came in … I kept wondering if any of them were VJ members. We then got called in at around 10:45am.
The IO asked us to sit down. He asked me for my gov’t issued ID (driver’s license), birth certificate, social security card, EAD card, I-94, and marriage certificate. I didn’t have my social security card with me – he said that’s ok. He then asked my husband for his driver’s license, social security card, and naturalization certificate. He didn’t have his naturalization certificate but had his passport instead. The IO seemed a bit stiff, lol. He then asked us to stand up and swear an oath to tell the truth.
He asked each of us if this was our first marriage. Then he says, ‘there was this one lady who was learned of her husband’s previous marriage in Mexico at their green card interview. ’ He then asked my husband if the address and his profession were still current. He proceeded by asking me the Y/N questions. At some point in the questioning, he started smiling, lol. He joked to my husband, ‘wouldn’t you be surprised if she answered yes to any of these questions?’ He then asked us how we first met. We told him the story with a few jokes in between. He then asked if we got married in the church. I said no, that we got married where we had our reception, then he asked if we had a pastor. We then answered yes.
We had brought our wedding album and placed it on the desk. He grabbed the album and started flipping through it. We had an outdoor wedding ceremony so he commented about how it was good that we had an aisle that was made of concrete and not grass. Something about his cousin had a wedding and she had to walk in grass … uncomfortable as her heels were sinking in the grass, lol. He gave us back our album and started telling us about the ROC process as well as what we need to do should we change addresses. He told us that he needed to do further background checks, to quote him ‘as long as you haven’t committed any major crimes in the past few weeks, you guys will be ok.’ He had taken my I-94 and stapled it to the package but handed me back my EAD because we would be passing through a CBP inspection checkpoint on our way back. He told me to show them the EAD and tell them that we had just completed the green card interview.
We gratefully told him how short the interview was (I would say about 10 minutes) and he said that he spent more time reviewing the package than he did interviewing us. He said that our package was very thorough and well prepared. We thanked him and he guided us to the exit into the lobby. As we were driving back, at 4:10pm I got email notification about the card production. Now, we wait for the card to be delivered.

For ir1/cr1 it is normally 1 year, not 6 months. However the OP'S wife has a resident visa for Thailand and it sounds like she will be interviewing there so better safe than sorry. I agree with penguin.

1- Some oath ceremonies never had anyone there to accept passport applications. I don't know if some still do.
2- You can go to the post office, county clerk, or to a passport agency to apply. First time applicants must apply in person. Some locations require an appointment while others take walk-ins.
3- You have to present your oroginal naturalization certificate. They will take it and mail it to the processing center along with your application. You will receive your certificate in the mail a few days after you get your passport in the mail.
4- You can go to the Social Security office before you apply for a passport or after you get your certificate back.
If you have proof of immediate or emergency international travel, you can apply at a passport agency and get same-day service or get your passport within two days depending on your travel dates.

Any fees related to the visa would have been paid prior to the interview taking place. The next fee that has to be paid is to start the Adjustment of Status process. The fee you may be referencing is a green card production fee that is paid by immigrant visa holders. Since a K1 visa is not an immigrant visa, such a fee would not be paid by a K1 visa holder.
