sweetgal8 got a reaction from TwoChickies in Picking Passport at Loomis
I received an email from the consulate telling me it's ready for pick up. BTW, the Loomis location in Montreal is in a secluded area. I don't have car so I had to take the bus and I was so lost. It was the worst experience in my life (REALLY) and I do not wish this on anyone. The building doesn't even have Loomis written on it, it was some other name I can't remember.
I would have opted for home delivery (extra $$$) but I am not home most of the day (I work) and no one is at home to get it for me.
Ugh but finally I have the envelop and my passport and ready to get out of this hell whole (WINTER!)

I think many cultures use the term of "good luck" as wishing all the best. I know they do in German, Spanish and I guess in English language. It's not actually meant in a way that you need luck. It's being politely. I agree with you, the K1 process is a formal application and mean to obtain all necessary information. A legit relationship needs no luck. But as in many other things in life, job, interviews...luck is actually never needed if you bring everything needed for it...however, you will always hear people saying "good luck" sorry for off topic
    Thanks again for your opinion.

I believe you have enough evidence, but I'm also unsure if you're asking about residency in the U.S or residency in his current home. (Yes, they're a little different. Proving residency in the U.S you could use a birth certificate or a passport, proving residency in his current home you would need a drivers license, lease agreement, pay stub, tax records, bank statements or even a letter from his employer. Note, you don't need all of it. what you have should be enough for that.)
No, I don't believe it's frowned upon, as long as you use the visa within the designated timeline you should be fine. If you get questioned I'd be surprised, but in the rare case you do just explain your circumstances and do the best you can to stay calm.
That's good, if you feel uneasy about the border security or your interview just take some receipts (if you have any). If you don't tell them your plans, have the name of the venue ready.
It doesn't matter where you get married, as long as it's legal. (Probably don't go to Vegas though) Church or Court is more than fine.
If it's for an interview, make sure you have everything you need, remember the little things. Run over some practice questions, do your best to remember everything you put in the package just in case they ask.
If it makes you feel any better, it's rare that people don't get accepted. Only those few cases that truly stand out in a terrible way.
I hope I helped, if at all a little bit.
    Ben.

Each consulate is different in their requirements. The letter of intent is not on the list of requirements for USEM. They only want to see evidence of a genuine engagement. They give examples of what you can bring, such as letters, photos, etc. but a specific letter of intent is not listed.

Don't wait for Montreal to send you Packet 3, you'll end up waiting an extra 2-3 weeks if you don't just send it in yourself! As soon as you have a case number from the NVC start your DS-160, and when your CEAC status says "Ready", submit Packet 3 to Montreal in an email, here are the instructions: Montreal K-1 Packet 3. When you email Montreal let them know you'd like to receive Packet 4 in an email, sometimes they even reply back with Packet 4 the same day.

    Congrats on your NOA2!
    K1 flowchart here: http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1flow
NOA2 is Step #4, and next would be NVC, where it can take approximately 2-5 weeks for processing. You can also try contacting NVC for the MNL case number after 10 business days from when you receive your NOA2 hard copy: http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/immigrate/nvc/nvc-contact-information.html
NVC will also be sending you a letter containing the MNL# and informing you that your files are then en route to the consulate. Once you have the MNL#, your fiancee can then proceed to paying the visa application fee ($240), and then schedule her embassy interview appointment. The payment details and other instructions are in the US embassy Manila website.
Be mindful that each consulate has slightly different procedures and timeline. In Manila, the medical should be done at least a week before the interview date.
For other embassy phase concerns, here's the PH regional subforum link: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/forum/129-philippines/

Yes we are really fortunate indeed! I am from Canada (beneficiary) and my mom's family is actually from the Philippines. For some reason they think we are rolling in money because we live in Canada. We just work hard to have the things that we have. I am grateful that I was born here and living here for the past 24 years. Now off to another great country - the U.S.

Friends...I am THRILLED to tell you that at 12:31 AM, I received a text message that my case status had been updated. I checked the USCIS.gov website to find that our I129f fiancee petition has been approved!!!!!!!!! I cannot begin to tell you the joy I feel right now. I am crying, my fiancee is crying and our hearts are filled with joy. I certainly didn't expect a text message in the middle of the night, and am so happy that it came.
Our NOA1 was February 20, 2014. So I hope this encourages others and gives you some hope. I know how hard it has been waiting. Hang in their!
I feel like I must be the happiest man on the planet, and my hope and prayer for all of you is that your anxiety will soon end and you will feel the joy that Linn and I feel right now.

We got our license and got married first, and then her SSN after. We are in Virginia, so the requirements of other states may differ.
You can check out the guide here: http://www.visajourney.com/content/ssn for steps to get it though. Looks like you just need to wait for a couple of weeks after entering the U.S. to get it. It's probably a good idea to get as soon as you can anyway.

    Hi All,
On June 11th, 2014 at 8:45 P.M. after 7 months and 20 days we finally received our NOA2 Via text, and email from the USCIS. I wanted to be specific for all those VJ members stil waiting for a response. It should help to know that the USCIS will text and email you even at 8:45 at night. Now that could be some kind of delayed transmission on the part of the phone carrier or something else. But never the less, that's when we got it. I can't tell you how happy I am. Last night I swear fireworks and the sound of Louis Armstrong singing It's a Wonderful World were similtaneously going off in my head. My fiance almost fell off his chair as I told him on Skype. I have so much to do it's wonderful to be moving forward. I will be updating my timeline shortly.

    APPROVED! I GOT APPROVED!
I can't quite believe it's finally all over. I proposed six months ago amidst the greatest feeling of happiness i'd ever experienced. What followed was mountains of paperwork, a cruel amount of cash, and finding new levels of patience that could embarrass Job.
Then came the crash when I realised two police cautions from 12 years ago may ruin the California dream, and Kelsey and I were resigned to accept a whole other life, somewhere else. It was painful, it was stressful, and I couldn't find a hero anywhere.
Turns out I didn't need one after all, and the love and support of people around me got me over the finish line. I'M GOING TO AMERICA!
Deepest gratitudes to everyone here for their advice, patience and grace. You are good people, and this is a special community. I will do my best to continue contributing to the knowledge and service so that others can fulfil their dreams of love in the USA.
    Thank you everyone!
(I will post a full breakdown of my situation, including advice specific to those with cautions, at a later date. Right now I'm off down the pub!)

I have always been curious as to why photos together would be considered secondary. I can visit a country (have dozens of stamps in the passport) without meeting anyone so how is that actually considered proof that we met someone? I have restaurant receipts, ATM receipts, boarding passes, hotel receipts, etc. without meeting anyone. Hard to argue photos together with that person though. Always made me wonder.

I'm cracking up just reading this thread i'm from the philippines, and from my experience growing up there it's also not that normal for strangers who just met to hug each other. If it's family reunion and relatives meet for the first time then yeah, maybe a hug is normal but if someone introduces you to a friend it's usually just a handshake (or even none at all, i usually just wave my hand a little and say hi ) so when i got here, and got introduced to my husbands male friends, it was a little awkward to give them a hug...usually they expect it when we're about to leave the gathering. i usually just end up giving a half-hug, where i put one of my arms around them but not facing each other...i just find it so weird to touch bodies with them haha! I like my personal space, thanks very much. And even the girls, when they hug my husband, i get this little urge to pull him away because it's just so unnatural for me to see that. What's funny is they're from the philippines too so i'm like hey! That is not ok! XD but I just say that in my head haha. This hugging people for no important reason has got to stop, okay? I will hug you, but it will be very awkward and may cause me to avoid you for the rest of the evening ) and gurrrl if you hug my husband, i'm keepin' my eye on you

sweetgal8 reacted to Harpa Timsah in Canadian immigrating to the US via K1- do I still lose my Canadian citizenship or is it possible to attain dual citizenship?
You won't be eligible for US citizenship until after you have lived in the US as a permanent resident for many years. At that time, if you choose to apply for US citizenship, you will not lose Canadian citizenship. But that is a long way off.
