Not from New York but no, interview and oath ceremony will not take place at the same day, normally it will be 4-6 apart (so they can do your request for name change if applicable and print/prepare your certificate).

The Newark office is in New Jersey not NY, as for same day oaths this office & the one in Mount Laurel NJ both do same day oaths.

The people of the UK don't believe that the Queen should be treated as a deity, not anymore than one thinks that the Pope should be treated as one either. Of course, upon meeting both individuals I'd reckon you'd at least behave politely or respect the decorum of their station. Even monarchists don't believe she's like a deity. My GGama was a loyal monarchist of course for a variety of reasons, but you have to also understand the lady simply means a great deal to many, and in general the plan with meeting leaders of many countries is to be polite, honor traditional protocol, and try not to be obnoxious. Even at her advanced age, she is a smart and commanding woman.

For those that care: it is an option for a person (including non-subjects) to bow or curtsy to the Queen not a requirement. However it is generally seen as rude, albeit it incredibly rude to A) turn one's back on a Queen (it would be very severely impolite), B) start walking in front of her, when it is her job to lead the troop inspection - it's her troops, her house, and her job. If you say blah, that's just silly, well, imagine if it was your 92 year old respected grandmother who had a very important job to do and she was trying to do it as is according to the customs of her people -- would you interrupt her, charge ahead of her, and not let her do her job? Would you not be respectful of the culture you are at that time visiting?

Ultimately it was expected he'd do something oblivious and rude. We could all do to be a lot less rude, and not being very rude is something important culturally there. And of course, I'm sure there's many that don't care... but Wheaton's Law and all that.

    Hi,

Just to put you right on a point of protocol, when a visiting head of state from another country visits the UK & meets the Queen, there is a guard of honor formed for the visiting head of state, when the Queen & her visitor inspect the guard of honor it's the visitor that conducts the inspection & not the Queen, She accompanies the visitor on the inspection.

We definitely want to avoid presumption of misrepresentation: https://www.nafsa.org/Professional_Resources/Browse_by_Interest/International_Students_and_Scholars/DOS_Expands_Presumption_of_Misrepresentation_Rule_to_90_Days/

Our intentions were good and honest but as this is already a scary process to jump right into, we'd like to take the coming weeks to just read while we let this arbitrary time period pass.

    Hi,

As said before the 90 day rule does not apply as she is already here, the intent was addressed at the POE when she was admitted into the USA, so if you want to you can get married asap & do the AOS as soon as you have your documentation together.

So no need to wait for 90 days to start the paperwork.

Question for folks that passed their test and took oath on the same day. Is your spouse allowed to be present for the oath ceremony? I'm thinking to come in for the interview by myself and, if I pass and they let me take the oath, ask her to come to the building.

Has anyone done anything like that? It would be great for her to be present for this milestone but don't want her to take the day off if she doesn't need to :)

Hi, Yes you can have your spouse at the oath ceremony, my wife had the day off & came with me for my interview, she waited for me waiting area & when I came back out from my interview we went & had something to eat then we went back for the my oath ceremony at 3pm that afternoon.

@blk....when you went for your interview...what kind of paperwork did you bring with you?  Everything I sent was originals except for birth and marriage certificates.

Hi JT4/25 I took a complete copy of everything I had sent plus all of the originals, also my tax return for 2016 & all of my expired passports.

In the end he only looked at my passports & took back my expired G/C & gave me back my 10 year one which I handed in at the start of my oath ceremony.

Thanks for confirming, Brian! That's why I wanted to come here to solve my questions. In the meantime, i'll start preparing for the process, at least won't be so complicated like the I-130 was...

It's a lot easier as the form is fairly strait forward, just send in copies of the evidence that they ask for but do get together any additional evidence that you think they might ask for.

I went in to my interview with bank & electric statements, apartment rental agreements 2 passport photos, birth certificates plus other documents & in the end he never asked for them, only my ID & G/C & current passport + my old passports.

    Hello again!

I've been away from this forum since a lot of you helped me to go along the process to get the Green Card and now the day for the Citizenship is getting close and I'd like to know any of the topics where I can follow a guide to know how to proceed, when can be started (I've been told I can start the process 6 months earlier of the day of 3 years). So, where do I start?

    Thanks!!

    Hi,

You can file up to 90 days before the 3rd year anniversary of your G/C, not 6 months.

  9. Hi,

Thanks every one, just got back home after having a meal with my lovely wife celebrating my citizenship oath, there were 57 of us lol we all managed to get into a small room plus the people that came to support us all.

The ceremony was lovely & all the staff did a wonderful job making it a special time.

As for my interview the gentleman that did mine was very polite & made me feel relaxed through it all & when he asked if I wanted to do my oath today I naturally said yes :D

Now as for the questions I don't remember them all only 4, they were what did the declaration of independence do,

name one branch of the government, if both the president & vice president can no longer serve who becomes president & what does the presidents cabinet do.

It has been a long journey as we all know, at times I did not think it was going to end but now I am a citizen & a new chapter of my life has started, good luck to all of you that are still waiting it will happen.

Can someone change me to red please.

  10. Hi All,

Well I now have just less than two days till my interview at 10am on Monday at the Mount laurel F/O in NJ.

So all being well I should be all done with the USICS as my local F/O usually has same day oaths, I have been studying the civics questions everyday since I got my appointment letter & so today I am having a day off from it.

Tomorrow I will be doing revision for the test & going over my N-400 application, then it's "in the lap of the gods" LOL.

  12. Hi,

    Just found this through Google

FOREIGN DIVORCE AND A FORMER FILIPINO CITIZEN

Consider a case where a former Filipino citizen who was divorced abroad wants to remarry in the Philippines. This brings up peculiar problems because no divorce yet exists in the Philippines (outside of Sharia law). The foreign divorce will first need to be judicially recognized by a Philippine court.

Such a procedure makes reference to the second paragraph of Article 26 of the Family Code of the Philippines:

Where a marriage between a Filipino citizen and a foreigner is validly celebrated and a divorce is thereafter validly obtained abroad by the alien spouse capacitating him or her to remarry, the Filipino spouse shall have capacity to remarry under Philippine law.
