When I file for N-400 for the US citizenship, do I have to take a US citizenship test?
Hi
You only have to take the Citizenship test at the interview

My wife just became an American citizen last month and arrived in America yesterday.
We live in the state of Maryland and we're trying to get her a driver's license. Where does she start exactly? Does she have to go to a driving school first and then get a personal driving instructor who will have her drive places before she takes the computerized questions and answers exam and then the actual driving exam?
How did your wife become an American Citizen last month & had only arrived into the USA yesterday ???????????

You'll be fine as long as you never come across an Immigration Officer who doesn't understand Florida name change law via marriage and that a Florida marriage certificate only lists maiden name.
All marriage certificates list the woman's maiden no matter where you get married, as at the time of the wedding it is the only legal name that a woman has.

Hi All,
My NJ diving licence was due to run out on 07/22/16 & with my G/C expiring on 04/22/16, I went down to the MVC in Mount Holly NJ with my 6 point ID which included my current G/C & the extension letter plus other ID & after a short wait I walked out with my new licence that is now valid till 07/22/17.
So hopefully I should have my 10 year G/C in hand before that date at no time did they question my extension letter which was a nice change from all the other posts on here that say how they were given the run a round by the staff over the extension letters.

Hi There,
I hope this is the right forum for this topic.
I was wondering if anyone had a timeline or plan for when I arrive in NJ on a K1. We like to plan ahead and we wanted to get an idea of what we can do first and the best order of process. Assume we have no problems and are willing to rush to get AOS
I have researched and this is my current time-frame
Arrive
Apply for SSN
Apply to get Married
Drivers license? Or does this have to wait for EAD?
Apply for AOS
Is there anything im missing or a better order for these?
Thanks
Hi as said before you have to wait until you have your EAD or G/C in hand for your driving licence, when you do go to get it as long as you show them your full UK one if you have one then you should only have to do the eye & written test as you should get a waver for the road test as you have a full UK licence.

Canada might be different.
Question was about customs declaration card, and your residency status is what matters there.
Thanks for the insight, I have learnt something new.
-
You're actually a visiting Canadian; CBSA has asked me repeatedly to show my green card. Customs exemptions are the ones for visitors, different than for residents of Canada (citizens or otherwise).
When I went back to the UK last year I only had to show my passport to enter the UK, the only times I had to show my G/C was on my way out of the UK & On entering the USA.

Part 3/Question 5 is asking about "Alien Registration Number" of spouse. The spouse in this case (me) is US Citizen. So in this case are we supposed to leave alien number blank or give passport number?
Hi Just leave it blank.

I've been trying to find this topic already answered but am having a hard time. I have been granted AP and have my AOS interview at the end of August. I'm planning to go back to Canada to visit family and friends. This may be a dumb question, but how do I fill out the Canadian customs form and proceed through customs when I arrive? I know I would technically be a visitor there now, but I have a Canadian passport and am a Canadian citizen. Do I enter through the visitors' line now? Do I need to show my AP (or GC if I get it before I visit) on the Canadian customs side, or is that just when I return to the U.S.? Will the Canadian side ask to see any proof that I have ties to return to the U.S. (the way the U.S. side often does when we're coming to the States as visitors) or does the Canadian side care about ties to the U.S. since I'm a Canadian citizen anyway? Just a little confused how this works...
Thanks everyone!
Hi Your AP Card or G/C is only needed to when you return to the USA, as it's your prof of your entitlement to enter the USA as a resident.
As for entering Canada you will be doing so as a Canadian Citizen not a visitor.

We aren't thinking of adjusting his status, he still has things back home like his apartment and car and such that he can't just abandon. I was more curious of how long the process takes, from when I file the forms until he actually is allowed to come live here. What is the quickest way?
What ever you decide to do the information as to what's needed is in the Guides at the top of the page, but feel free to ask questions about anything that you are not sure about, as there are lots & lots of us that have gone through this process in different ways & might be able to give you some help & guidance with you journey.

OP Has already stated that he's going home anyways so the point is moot.
I know that, but if they decided other wise then it's still a legal option.
-
Yes, but they don't all stay and adjust after declaring so at POE.
True, but as he was let in they were satisfied that he would be leaving at the end of his stay & had no intention at that time to stay & adjust his status, but if he was to now to change his mind & wish to stay he can very legally do so & adjust his status being married to a USC.
-
But with declaration at Poe that the was to be married he could possibly receive a misrepresentation ban.
OP if you want to try and AOS, then by all means try. Just know that coming on VWP, should aos be denied he has no recourse for appeal. It's an iffy situation but may be worth trying.
No he would not, as lots of people come into the US to get married,
-
Yeah, he did. He came with his mom who also attended our wedding, and they had their wedding attire as well. We thought it best not to lie to the boarder people, in case it came back to haunt us later. Also, there was no way anyone would believe our wedding was thrown together last minute; we had booked it back in September and his Scottish relatives had booked tickets and everything. If someone really wanted to dig, they could see quite easily that we had been planning it for a while.
Hi,
It's not fraud to enter the USA with plans to get married, the fraud only comes into it, if at the time of entry he had the intention to stay & adjust his status. As he didn't he can stay & adjust his status, but remember that he cannot leave until he has either his AP or G/C in hand.

Is it still common for most K1 from Philippines to get the AOS waiver notice?
Last time I did AOS for K1 a few years ago it seemed like most people were issued conditional greencard if doing K1 from Philippines?
Hi I don't know about the AOS waver notice, but as for the conditional greencard, anyone who is married for less than two years at the time of issue will get a conditional one no matter where they are from.
Brian
-
Yes, I understand what is stamped/written in your passport. The physical green card will have an expiry of 5 years (since you've been married more than 2 years) for an IR1 visa and 2 years for a CR1 visa. Hence my guess.
Have a safe trip.
The IR1 Green Card is for 10 years not 5 years, lol

Well I am glad that I didn't have to do the driving test part, just the eye exam & written test to get my full driving licence here in NJ
-
Hi if the registry office in Surrey is anything like mine in Worcester then you can order one over the phone & then go in & collect it by hand, it will properly cost you a little more but at least you will have it for your interview. Also why not get an extra one just in case.
