  1. Hi all, we're having a bit of an emergency. My husband (the immigrant) had his wallet fall out of his pocket while on a brew bike (the thing where there are like 6 people pedaling a giant bike) cycling about 15 blocks through the downtown of our city. He didn't realize it until later and we went back and walked the route 6 times and it's long gone - It's a very crowded and sometimes seedy area, no doubt someone picked it up. It contained, among other things, his green card. We have a flight to his home country in 2 WEEKS and have no idea what we are going to do. We are filing a police report right now and he just made an appointment with USCIS exactly 7 days from now.

The green card itself is expired but he's got the extension letter (I-751) that extends it for a year. We've also got photocopies of everything.

I read that we can go to a USCIS office with the police report and get the I-551 stamp. Is that enough to leave and reenter the US? Otherwise what else can we do?

I don't think that being on the attack is the best way to get your point across. You've done nothing but be incredibly stubborn with people throughout this discussion, which is your own business, but if you're actively looking to help people see your opinion about the current situation, it's best handled by compromise and kindness.

For example, assuming that I like Donald Trump was a mistake. Also, assuming you think that I like Bill Clinton is a mistake. LMAO

...it wasn't an attack. It was pointing out his hypocrisy...

    No.

What I was saying is that placing blame on the wives for their husband's action is a very crappy thing to do.

That's exactly what I was saying...maybe you didn't read the context of who I was replying to?

They were blaming Hillary for staying with her cheating husband, and then saying Trump cheating was 'no big deal' and 'actually gave him points with some people'. I was quoting him when he was saying "she stayed with someone who cheated on her" but was referring to Hillary, so I joked and asked if he meant Melania. Of course it is not the wife's fault. I was calling him out on his hypocrisy.

Oh that's good. Blame it on the wife for her husband's actions. It's not like it's totally complicated to find out that your husband has cheated on you after he becomes president and any sort of divorce would absolutely ruin you AND your teenage child.

So it's ok for Trump to do it but not Clinton, is what you are saying.

    To answer pointless posts apparently.

It is a truth though. There are many countires that don't have immigrants coming all the time. And they are FINE. If immigrants would stop coming to the US, it would be fine too... It's simple.

Ok, then maybe you and your spouse (which ever one immigrated here) should go away.

  6. Hi guys, can you tell me what email you are using to email the Jerusalem consulate?

Because when I email the address provided (jerusalemiv@state.gov), this happens:

    postmaster@state.gov
    11:47 AM (6 hours ago)
    to me
Delivery has failed to these recipients or groups:
    jerusalemiv@state.gov
Your message can't be delivered because delivery to this address is restricted.

Do you guys have special permission or something?

I ask because I'm in the same boat. They requested 'missing' documents (also new financial sponsor), which registered mail told us arrived 2 weeks ago. Our status on the AIV website still says "SEND DOCUMENTS", but the ceac status (DS-260) is in AP, updated 2 days after the consulate rec'd our documents. Not sure why they are different and what is the actual status of our case. Do we have to wait weeks or months? (/sigh)

  7. Hi everyone. I am SO FRUSTRATED RIGHT NOW.

I don't know if my husband and I just have REALLY bad luck, or if EVERYONE at UCSIS and the Consulate in Jerusalem and the Universe hates us.

Here we are in MONTH 17 of waiting. I am so frustrated I feel like I'm going to punch a hole through my computer. I have been staying at my husband's parents apartment in Israel for the last 7 MONTHS. This was supposed to be a temporary thing. We have been waiting for our life to start for almost a year now. No jobs, no income, no car/bikes, life is on permanent hold and I HATE it. I haven't been home in over 3 years.

Our NOA1 date was Feb 17, 2014. 1-130 was approved Aug 18 2014. Case complete at NVC in March 25 2015.

Here's some of the UNIVERSE-HATES-US stuff that has happened to us.

    • The Israeli military took several months to send my husband's discharge papers (and they were the wrong papers). So our IV packet was sent 4 months after our 1-130 was approved. We sent it in December 19 2014. I thought this would be our only glitch in the mission. But this turns out to be NOTHING to what happens next.
    • In March 2015, I called USCIS and they LITERALLY LOST our IV packet. The expected time for processing the IV packet is 60 days (because of the visa delays of 2013-2014). On VJ I read that our center (NSC) was having technical issues/snow days/etc, and it was late for everyone. So I waited. One of my other immigrant friends urged me to call, so I did. I called in the beginning of March. The guy said "Oh yeah...that's past the due date. Let me get my manger and get back to you." Later he told me that they found it UNDER A BUNCH OF PAPERS, forgotten on someone's desk. IV packet took over 90 days.
    • Our time to get an interview also took 2 months. NSC also had huge problems then. A ton of us waited on a VJ thread, checking every day. Suddenly on April 17, everyone got their interview dates. Our was May 28. I was so happy. "We're get to go home mid June", I thought. HAHA WRONG.
    • Interview - went poorly. My husband and I are good, polite people. Somehow we got the meanest interviewer at the consulate. She was rude to me, and didn't tell us what was going on. She finger printed my husband, asked him questions alone and he took the oath. All good, right? WRONG. "So, are we approved?" "The guy at the next counter will explain." "We are rejected?" "The guy at the next counter will explain." Meanwhile, the guy at the next counter said, "She didn't tell you that you've been rejected?" Yeah. I started crying right then and there. This translates to 3 more months of this jail sentence. We were "missing documents" - rather, the documents we gave were not acceptable.
      • One. The military sent him the wrong documents. Because it's not enough that its run by 19 year olds who don't care, take MONTHS to find my husband's papers and then send the wrong ones.
      • Two. They didn't believe our Intent to Return to the US. I started panicking, because I sent a TON of documents for this. I said "Look at all the papers we sent you to establish Intent to Return." "Oh, I didn't see those...just leave them here." > :( SO I don't even know if this is resolved or not. I sent extra documents but I'm so worried by this.
      • Three. Apparently I can't be the financial sponsor because I'm overseas. Which is wrong because I have enough money to support us both. So, we have to get my mom to be the sponsor.
    • The mail takes 2 weeks to get here from California. We mailed the missing documents to the Consulate on June 18th. And wait. And wait. And wait some more. BECAUSE GUESS WHAT, MORE TECHNICAL ISSUES!!! :D I guess everyone got this message on the AIS website:
    • Technical issues that affected the Department of State's ability to process visas over the last two weeks are being resolved. All applicants can schedule and attend appointments as normal. Due to the backlog of cases, applicants can still expect delays in the processing of existing and new applications.
      • On the AIS website it still says SEND DOCUMENTS. Since it was registered mail, we can SEE that the consulate got them 2 weeks ago and put our status to AP. I'm really confused about this. Emailed them. But of course they won't respond for a month, like always, and then say "we can't answer any questions because you need to include your husband's mother's cat's favorite ice cream flavour."

So this is my life right now. I'm sitting in 30 degree heat, 12000 Km away from my home. My parents are very sad every time I say there has been another delay, and I HATE telling them that I can't come home yet. The place on my wall where I bang my head is so big that I could probably run a falafel stand out of it.

  8. In any case, she is now unemployed, so she definitely needs to provide a new I-864 and...

    1) Find a job

    2) Find a joint sponsor (and their I-864)

    3) or Show sufficient asset

Wait, do I need to do one, or all of these things? Because I can definitely show sufficient assets (I have ~80K saved up).

However I can't get a job - I'm currently in my huband's home country (Israel) and my visa here specifically states that I cannot work.

why would the embassy require you to show the original I-864 w/ original signatures during the interview? Isn't that supposed to be sent out to NVC? The only thing that you can show to the embassy at the interview are the copies of what you've submitted?

This is the paper on my consulate's website (http://photos.state.gov/libraries/jerusalem/5/pdfs/pkt%204%20-%20March%202015.pdf) saying this:

"For most immigrant visa categories, each petitioner MUST provide an original, signed Form I-864 for each beneficiary along with a copy of his or her current tax returns (Forms 1040 and W-2)."

By the way, I emailed the consulate just to be sure. But I don't expect an answer for at least a week.

  9. When I looked in my huge visa file, there was only a photocopy of the I-864 (Affidavit of support)...the signed original nowhere to be found, so I guess I accidentally threw it out. We moved 3000 km away so no chance of finding it.

The interview prep sheet from the NVC AND the Jerusalem consulate say that we MUST present the original...what should I do?

Should I fill out a new I-864? But...It will be different, I had a job then and now I'm unemployed (it was a temporary contract job). It's not a problem because we're waiting for his US visa before moving to the US, then we'll look for jobs...no point looking now. We're staying at his parents place, not spending money, we have a ton saved up anyway. And on my 2014 income taxes, it says I made way over the poverty guideline anyway. Is that all that matters? Or do I have to get another co sponser because I'm currently unemployed? I'm so confused...

  10. Transferwise.com.

It's from the same guy who invented paypal and skype. I've used it a dozen times to send my French salary to the US. It's a great and cheap service. It basically finds someone who wants the other currency and exchanges it between you at the google/xe rate, and their fee is very small.

  11. Hi all,

So we're currently filling out the DS-260, and when it asked if he has an Social security number, he said "I'm not sure".

It's because, when he was 30, he was once employed by and paid by a US university (University of Michigan), though he was working at an international laboratory in Europe and never set foot on US soil (except for a vacation when he was 15). He no longer has the papers that he was sent by the university, and he doesn't recall if an SSN was involved. Is it possible that he could have been issued a social security number for this purpose? Or is it just for residents? I really don't even know where to look.

So, we are currently unsure if he has a social security number. Is there a way for us to find out?

    Thanks all!
