luukee reacted to craig5977 in purchase items on Tiki and ship to a vietnam address
I am not living there now but bought many things on TIKI, things are shipped COD mostly and they want you to pay in person. So is why they need a local number. I would just use the number of whomever you are shipping it to. Good Luck

thanks for the info JRF, and the laughs too   My MIL suffers something similar to all older Asians have, she thinks she's always right.  or maybe that's just how all MIL are.   I wouldn't mind her company too much, just that when it comes to how I handle myself and live, should be up to me, i'm not some kid who has no clue hahaha, although she probably thinks that.

Next on my list. We need to tune the current SW before upgrading. Fwiw our next migrations are to SSL and then a new server with the latest CentOS installed.

luukee reacted to ImmiGeek in In US with tourist VISA, recommendations for health insurance?
If you are buying the insurance, buy from a Day BEFORE her start date(from home) and till a Day After her arrival to the final destination on her return. This would cover health issue during and immediately after her entire travel.

I think the visa agent charged my MIL $100 odd dollars.

As for where the useless documents go - basically put it in an organized binder to give to the CO who prob never asks for it.

The agent also completes the online DS260 and MIL provides all the info and coaches the client. Also she goes to the consulate and takes care of transport r/t for the client.

Anyways just do as your told no matter how ridiculous it seems. The alternative won’t be very beneficial to your relationship.

Is this "service person" charging your MIL? If so, be careful with that. Many people take advantage of people not knowing the process.

A visitor visa application process should be no more than $160. And that is for the filing fee. And the application can be done online. In fact, you could fill out the application for your MIL without a need for a "service person".

And even if you provide her with the invitation letter, it is not possible for her to upload it when she applies. It will be with her when she goes to the interview where the CO will have no interest in looking at it.

Anyway, you can draft up a letter stating the dates she will be ataying with you and what you plan on doing while ahe is here, I guess.

luukee got a reaction from BigDaddy28 in N400 on CR1 2 years Plus letter?
BigDaddy - looks like the process is going to take around 8 more months, -- ironically our cr1 extension which ended in july, is now extended another 6 months due to processing times.  Thanks again for all the tips with this.

Thank you Luukee, I hope the same to you. Start on working with 100 questions now don't wait until after biometrics. I promise the citizenship interview is a whole lot easier than the green card interview. You will be nervous don't get me wrong but it's all worth it. I remember mine like it happened last night. Good luck.

His wife would probably say that it is up to the USG to determine how long she stays (length of visa) and that her husband has little or no say in the process.

My mother in law (who I enjoy having in our house) has visited twice, for five months each time, and not had any problems.  Six month visas each visit, separated by a year in Vietnam.

Hahaha...I've started to learn how to handle myself better around her.  Instead of trying to get the last word in, i'll just let her think she knows it all and I just go on about my business.  You know when I was visiting them in Saigon, she keeps forcing me to eat the foods that she cooks, nothing wrong with her food, but I just have a preference, and I preferred eating Banh MI, every kind there was in Saigon.  I know we have Banh Mi here too, but man, I swear, I tried so many different variations of them I never got sick of them.  Maybe to them Banh Mi is considered cheap food, but for me the amazing combination of Cha, Thit nguoi, Do chua...and that amazingly awesome French breads....damn I want one now (and I just had 2 for for dinner from Banh mi che cali).

@luukee I think how long your MIL spends visiting the US really depends on how long you can handle her

A letter of invitation and I-134 will not be considered for the visa (https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/tourism-visit/visitor.html).
Usually keeping family happy is important too.
Either way, it's not your fault whether they do or do not get the visa.

Your involvement, or your wife’s for that matter, in your mother in law’s tourist visa will only hurt her chances of getting one. If she only wants to come visit that’s what a tourist visa is for and she needs to show she can get one on her own. If she wants to move and live permanently in the US then she needs a 130.

I want to add my MIL returned this week back to Saigon. The month went quick though I am sure she will be back since she enjoyed us showing her around the local area and spending time with her grandson.
