All state prisons still inspect every piece of mail that enters or leaves. So, unless you can get them out of your cell by carrier pigeon, they will be confiscated before they see the light of day.

I think many schools are not even teaching the Constitution today, which is sad and pathetic. I keep a pocket copy of the Constitution with me all the time. It's short and not difficult to read, but one does need to know a few things to get some foundation for understanding it. It's that short document that sets our country apart from the rest of the world, not only for the paper it's written on, but because so many choose to preserve, protect and defend it, even to the death. But, there are also more people today than ever before who would like nothing more than to shred it and insert their own rules in its place.

I have been to 30 odd countries, there are a few that I would rule out.
Yes to the first two, I think most people are surprised by the US Healthcare situation, one of those Welcome to America issues. How could so much money be spent so badly? Probably see corruption.
The lack of social mobility surprised me as well. Probably down to the education system.
You hear the talk, so reality was a bit of a shock.

The US is the best of the rest, which is why so many are trying to come here. Not perfect, but a helluva lot better than the other options. Most people might be surprised that China is not a bad place to live today. I lived and worked there for six years. Now, during my time I noticed that I felt more safe on the street and had less intrusion into my personal life than that in the US. But, they've got big problems with pollution, corruption, and third-world medical care facilities. The trade-off isn't worth it.
I would not consider the European and Latin options as they are more closely aligned with socialism and do not have the same rewards for hard work as America. But, then again, I'm a Libertarian so I take notice of the differences the US Constitution and the Rule of Law offer when compared to other countries.

The OP handled himself perfectly, but in your case you should read and know your rights so that you can handle yourself legally and appropriately when stopped or questioned by law enforcement. Always ask if you are free to leave. Do it often and not in a provocative way. You DO NOT have to answer any questions and best practice is to kindly refuse. Ask if their requests are orders and whether you are being detained. Don't let the police intimidate you. Know your rights.

You can still call to find out whether your status has changed. The obama developers should be back from vacation tomorrow after lunch or so, depending on whether the union gives the okay to screw it up a little more.

For high-profile websites they should be using redundant servers like banks, and large sales websites. That means when the run the live server, there is at least one other server that has all the code that is used for testing and updating. If you just have a mom-and-pop website then you can take it down and put it up whenever you feel like it. That doesn't work if you have more than a few hundred people visiting every day.

If you find the waste of taxpayer dollars and fees collected by the DHS that are used to run the USCIS website to be well-spent, then that is your right. However, I disagree with you completely and whether you like it or not there are many people who have good reason to question the waste and abuse of the system. I will exercise my right to speak up when I see something that is not right. The case status section of the USCIS website has NEVER worked properly and despite the large sums of money and man-hours spent it remains unfixed. If you disagree with me that's fine, but do everyone a favor and disagree without launching a personal attack.

The OP was on the streets of Texas where there is no law that requires you to carry ID when you're not driving a car, that includes mexicans and new immigrants with or without green cards. How about that? So, you try to cooperate after being pinned between two police cars and ask if you're being detained? What's the matter with you people? So many Americans willing to relinquish their rights when they don't even know basic law. Pathetic!!

Technology is wonderful and not mysterious. It's actually not so difficult to keep it running for an educated and experienced professional from the private sector. The government is using our tax dollars to run that website and the downtime is perplexing. What's even more perplexing is how the general public accepts a government website to be down as just part of life, but goes crazy if their Internet supplier or cell phone goes down for more than ten seconds.

To the OP, thank you for the GREAT STORY. Perfect. You handled yourself just right. Our personal rights and freedoms are being chiseled away a piece at a time by Americans who don't know as much as you already know!

That site module is not working right now. Just keep in mind it's a website that is operated by the US government, where nothing is done efficiently and costs massive amounts more than what it would cost in the private sector to create and maintain.

Read again what I wrote, which clearly states that both the beneficiary and the petitioner must submit copies of a letter of intent to marry within 90-days. This letter of intent is not a letter of engagement, or evidence of a bonafide relationship. If a US consulate wants to go rogue and behave in a unilateral fashion by asking for evidence that contradicts the US state department and it's subsidiary the USCIS, then they are ripe for the picking of a civil suit. The best thing anyone can do before filing paperwork is to read the directions for each form. I know that sounds like common sense, but so many miss this simple step.
Look at page 5, item 7b of the instructions for the I-129f, which is a separate document from the form itself. It states:
"Submit evidence that you and your fiance(e) intend to marry within 90 days of your fiance(e)s entry as a K1. Evidence of your intention to marry may include a letter of intent to marry."
There is nothing in the instructions for the I-129f, or the form itself that mentions anything about an engagement, or a ring, asking mom and dad, or the personal soothsayer. Okay, sure, if you promise to marry someone within 90 days of arriving to the US it's an engagement, but don't confuse a formal engagement with a letter of intent, or providing evidence of a bona fide relationship.

Corvus, I still say that all you need do is email a PDF of the letter of intent to him, then, have him get on his skateboard and go door to door if need be, or better yet head on down to the local print shop and give them a couple of shillings to print the thing.

You need to read your paperwork and sign up on the website they directed you. There are complete directions there. I'm not going to give you a link or a name because you said you were tired of receiving them. Good luck
