No, there is no requirement that you have to apply ASAP. Once you're eligible, you can apply immediately, or down the line, or never (if you keep renewing the 10-year card). It's up to you, as long as you don't have any super extended out-of-country travel planned, in which case it's a good idea to take care of citizenship first. So keep on saving, and then apply when the time is right for you!

Alright guys, so I went ahead and made an InfoPass appointment for May 18th. My GC doesn't expire until July 16th, extension letter is dated June 20th, but my new job is wanting to make sure I am eligible to keep working for them (obviously) but I explained that cases are taking longer so I have to go and get a stamp in my passport to extend me another year etc. It might be too early and they could tell me to come back but I'd rather try to go earlier, and possibly get it over with, then for some reason wait and not be able to get an appointment.

It says to bring any documents relating to your case: so extension letter? I did a COA, so confirmation from that as well?

Also I've noticed all of my receipt numbers on my documents are either two different ones, or one that doesn't populate anything when I go to check my status. Like for example, the one I have on my COA confirmation from USCIS doesn't work if I go to look up my status. So, for making the appointment I put the other one that does work, even though that one sometimes isn't listed on all the documents, just some of them. Is that normal?

Hi! Welcome to the left coast! You can fill out the AR-11 change of address form online, which will also change your address on your pending I-751. Some people also confirm by calling USCIS but it shouldn't be necessary.

Your spouse (sponsor) needs to file an I-865 (by mail).

Once they schedule you and you receive the notice in the mail, you can always opt to do a walk-in appointment BEFORE the scheduled date.

Just got back from the post office!
They sent it Express for me, didn't have to pay the difference or anything.
Apparently my label wasn't the issue like they originally thought, the lady that works at the other post office put in or scanned the wrong address right off the bat. Everyone was super apologetic, I was just thankful that it was safe more than anything.
Said it should arrive by tomorrow afternoon, so I guess the USCIS will see it on Monday?
Man I feel like such a noob asking all of these questions haha I was so confident with AOS and it went off without a hitch! But I also wasn't working and didn't have as much going on then.

Erica & L got a reaction from Raccoon_CA in About To Sent ROC - Last Minute Questions Re: Form & Evidence!
    Hi guys,
I'm about to send off my ROC package this Monday (Tuesday at the latest), with a little over a month left until my GC expires in July. Would have sent it off earlier, unfortunately with my cat becoming sick and work issues, it took me a little longer to get everything together.
Anywho, I posted my check-list a few weeks ago and got the go-ahead my list is acceptable. But I have a few additional questions...
    Question Re: Evidence
    1. I have my Learners Permit but it has my old address on it (different than my spouse's license which has our CURRENT address on it) and I have to go for my full licence but have not been able to yet. Should I include it in my package?
    2. A personal check is okay to send the money, correct?
Questions Re: Form (Sorry if these seem silly/asked already.)
    1. When is it more appropriate to use N/A over None? For example, when it asks about dependent children, I have “none” but it also is technically "not applicable" because I do, in fact, have no children.

    2. If there are several lines that are N/A or none, do you have to put N/A or “None” on every line or just on the first line for that section?
    3. For the “place of marriage” do you put the city, state and country?

    4. Under the section for "Conditional Resident Address" it says “In care of name” and I'm assuming that means my full name, the conditional resident?

    5. If you select “no” to your physical address being different than your mailing address, it doesn’t let you put anything in the space, such as N/A or none, so technically it would be left blank, is that acceptable?

    6. At the very end under the "Additional Info" I have to add some previous addresses. Is there a specific format to write these? I just did them in order from most recent to oldest (there are only 2) like so:
    Street Number & Name
    City, State
    ZIP
    6. For hair colour, do they want your natural hair colour? I dye my hair all the time it’s almost never my natural colour.
    7. A huge part of the application is reserved for if you had any representation filling out your application, aka a lawyer, so even if that isn't applicable in our case, do we just leave it all blank but still print out the entire application and include it?
    Thanks in advance!!

I got my NOA text and emails today too and I know I still have a long way to go but any progress towards getting my EAD and being able to work is good news!

I don't know how comfortable I'd feel if my wife didn't share financial information with me. Right now, she's the only one who can work, and when she was in Canada, I was the only one who could work. We've yet to be together and have two incomes coming in at the same time but we share a bank account, make budgets together. What's hers is mine and what's mine is hers. We have never given each other "allowances" or something, you should be equal partners, not acting like parent and child, imo.

Erica & L got a reaction from American Woman 75 in Did you have any concerns before marriage?
I never ever thought I'd get married, let alone as soon as I did. We came to the US with the intent to visit and then return to Canada and figure out how we could make this work because at the time, DOMA laws hadn't changed allowing gay couples to pursue immigration. When we found out, we decided the best thing to do was to get married and start a life here. We want to have an actual wedding in the future when we have the money etc, but I was definitely nervous even for the court house wedding.
I miss my friends a lot, but I'm estranged from most of my family. Biggest change was being in the south for a year, while previously living and growing up in a very progressive city on the west coast. We are going to move to Portland in a few months, and even though it won't be Vancouver, it'll be much closer and I can visit!

Erica & L got a reaction from Morningmist in Testing & Interview Atlanta 4 Months?
Atlanta is one of the most backlogged offices, so from what I've seen, there is no way to tell. My local office is Atlanta as well, I got my changed to Testing and Interview last week.
I really don't understand how they could still be working on May 2013 cases. Whoever you spoke to could have been just quoting the processing times already listed on the website, which aren't always reliable.
I'm just *hoping* I get my interview sometime in the next 4 months, because we are moving states, and I really don't want to deal with the hassle.

    Alabama filer here too, welcome!
Yes overstay if you're the spouse of a US citizen is forgiven. There have people that have adjusted status that were out of status for longer than 3 years. They may be curious as to how you two have supported yourselves for the past 3 years, being that you didn't have work authorization and taking into your consideration your husband's health conditions. Might be something that could be asked during the interview portion but other than that your case should be processed the same as anyone else's.
You will definitely need to renew your passport as soon as possible, it is a crucial piece of identification during the process.
With that being said, did you apply for I-485, I-130 and I-765? Because if you also applied for I-131 Advanced Parole, since you've been out of status so long, if you were to leave the US even with that, the USCIS would considered you abandoning your application and can deny you re-entry. So best to stay put until you have that GC in hand.

She would need a write a letter explaining that she was a stay at home mom with no income and that therefore she was not required to file. She still has to fill out an I-864 because even with no income, she is still considered your primary sponsor. Then your co-sponsor will fill out an I-864 or an I-864A depending on if they reside in your same household or not.

I guess I could file it, I just don't see the point in doing the extra paperwork or paying for the extra passport-type photos when I'm 98% sure I'm staying put/going to be out of status before I file. But if I do happen to file before December 24th, I probably will end up filing it anyways.

    Good luck to you too!!

I could go for some vegetarian sushi as all the sushi places here have very limited options or you pay like $5 buck for a 6 piece maki roll.

It's more infuriating than anything haha but I'm used to being in Vancouver, which for the most part, is a very progressive and open-minded city. I haven't had any terrible experiences or anything but we definitely do not want to live in the south for any longer than we have to. Confused to why people stay here, tbh. To each their own I guess!
