I had the same process. Civics test, updates, affirmations. I had my interview last Tuesday (Jan. 7th) and got a call on Thursday (9th) to let me know my Oath Ceremony had been scheduled for the following Monday (13th), and they were calling as the letter wouldn't arrive in time (it didn't, it arrived Monday afternoon late).

So within a week of my Interview, I was given the Oath of Allegiance with 600+ others in Plano, Texas. My husband was able to be there (he is in the middle of a work trip in another state). We briefly celebrated and then I drove him to the airport to head back to his work.

I want to reiterate that the staff at the USCIS offices EVERY TIME I've been there have been incredibly courteous, friendly and super nice. I think they get a bad wrap sometimes, and I wanted to add my support for their team. The Regional Field Director spoke (and swore us all in) at the ceremony on Monday, and it is clear that this client focused attitude is a model adopted throughout the entire organization (at least in Dallas).

Congratulations on the interview, and I hope the ceremony is scheduled soon for you. Take tissues! Even the toughest of new citizens will shed a tear or two during this incredibly emotional time.

Congratulations! And, it's so awesome that your husband could get time to return and attend with you.

They scheduled her ceremony on-site after the interview. It's tomorrow morning. The letter showed up in the online account today.

We were treated very well throughout the whole process as well. My citizenship application last year (YES, UNDER President Donald Trump!!) took 5 months. So don't believe the liberal ####### you hear. I am gay AND black and FROM Africa.

It is not an easy process and you have to be VERY organized. Government employees like everything in order, submitted online clearly, well labelled and CORRECT. Don't make them hunt around for things.

If you're on the June 2019 N400 filers post, this part is a repeat of my comment there: Wife's interview completed and her application approved yesterday! Not sure why, but they really seem to be pushing the processing. Our estimated interview time still shows as August 2020 on the https://myaccount.uscis.gov/ site, despite today's updates of interview completion and recommendation for approval. Oath Ceremony was scheduled on-site after her interview (Baltimore Field Office) and we got Thursday morning.  SO happy and grateful, because I have surgery scheduled for Thursday afternoon and it will be a relief going into that knowing that we don't have to worry about an Oath appointment during the time that I'm laid up (::knock wood::).  I'd reschedule if I had to, because this takes precedence; the surgery is planned not an emergency and I wouldn't make her wait a moment longer than necessary. I told her to take whatever they offered and we'd adapt.

She said her interviewer "was lovely" and first dealt with the civics test because he knew people stressed about that and he wanted to offer relief by getting it out of the way. He updated her post-application travel history and looked at our identification (birth certificates, passports). He barely touched on the relationship information in the application but did go through all of the questions related to moral character and allegiance. She was so comfortable with him that she asked if he wanted to see things like our marriage certificate or relationship proof, but he was satisfied with what he had reviewed in advance. She offered the fact that we've been together for 23 years and he asked why we took so long to get married; she responded that it wasn't legal and his response was "Oh yes, sorry, I forgot". One more step and we're done!  The staff at the Baltimore Field Office were great and we made sure to tell them so.

If you filed online, it skipped the service center..

I think the 27 days thingy is before you can request info on this. They have 30 days to respond. In your case to acknowledge they recieved the application in mail (unless you are already able to download the PDF) and next step is FP for BC

I feel your pain.  I applied in late April, my field office is New Orleans.  My original estimate was 20 months, after my bio apt, it went down to 18 months.  However most folks say this is worse case.  Either way, like with all of the steps before in my immigration journey,  you file, put your best case forward and then go about your life. Eventually something will happen.😊

    Hi James,

My N400 said 26 months also and I completed it in 1 year and I had my Oath 6 days later.   Good luck and don't worry about the time line, it is scary but it is all good.

Don't hold the estimated case completion times to heart---mine said 18 months, and I completed my oath 96 days after I filed (online).
You'll find that the estimated time will jump around a bit...but you can expect your notice to complete the next step of biometrics in a couple of weeks or so, just fiyi---best of luck with your filing.

Yes, you can continue to use your green card to exit and reenter the US while your Naturalization is processing.
However, when you are approved and take your oath, you will not be able to travel overseas until you apply for and receive your new US passport (because you surrender your green card at your oath ceremony.)
This may be where the confusion was.

Great to see the dialog starting on here. Awesome to see so much support from others, "thank you!"
I am Australian and my husband is a USC, and we live just north of Dallas (Frisco, TX). My husband and I have been together just over 14 years. We were married this past March (thank you Canada) on our 14th anniversary (we kept it simple with just one date to remember).
We initially went through the emotions that everyone else in our situation went though, initially shock that DOMA was overturned, fear that this was just a dream, and now action. We explored using an attorney for our filings, but after we recovered from the sticker shock on the price that was going to cost us (in addition to the fees), we diligently reviewed books, articles and VJ.com to prepare our documents ourselves. We sent the documents this past Monday (I-130, I-485, I-765, I-131 and supporting documents) and they were received on Tuesday morning. We are still waiting for our NOA.
    We are now just waiting.

This will be more than enough. I spent hours putting together a folder of all this material (3" binder full of supporting material) along with a 16 page photo album / story book, and when we had our interview yesterday, I pull ONE document out for review (to prove it was an original) and nothing else.
My theory is that if you have all that with you and they can see you have that with you, then this decreases your chances of being asked to provide any of it. Just a theory, based on one interview with one USCIS official.
*IF* you have already provided a lot of the supporting material in your application, then they can normally tell if the relationship is "bona fide." Again, at least based on our experience.
One interesting note, is that owning property together is a big plus (based on a comment made by our interviewer).
Good luck, and even though it is easy to say (and easier to ignore), don't sweat it. All will be good!

It's official. We had our interview earlier today, and just received our email notice to advise that my Permanent Resident Application (aka Green Card) has been approved, and the card should be in my hands within the next 30 days. Thank you USCIS Dallas!

    Sharing stories is great!
This is a common problem on this site, that people tend to congregate in certain areas, so it's not limited to this thread People congregate in the regional subforums, or in monthly filers threads mainly.
So, it's perfectly natural and I understand it. I stay on this site because I got bad advice once (really BAD) in a monthly filers thread. So I am sorry if I seemed harsh; I just wanted to be clear. I am sensitive to finding incorrect information in little discussion threads because it happened to me.
The whole point of the DOMA decision is equality (well actually as I understand it it was a deferral to states rights, but USCIS will be treating these cases the same as others). So I disagree that the answers are different for opposite-sex couples. I know it seems like there is a lot of difference but there is not.
For instance, to the point about passports, in fact, a lot of opposite-sex couples cannot change the names on their passports either. Some countries don't change names, so they just won't do it or recognize it. Those people also have to have two different names on their docs and it is fine. Some people choose not to change their passport because of the cost. It's all fine.
A lot of opposite-sex couples have been exiled from the US too, because their spouses are unable to get a visa to the US. If you stick around you will see the stories. There is a couple on here who have two kids and the husband's uncle or something told him when he was 16 to go to the US with a piece of paper he gave him. Turns out the paper was a fake Birth certificate, but the guy didn't know - he was a kid and he didn't know English. So he is banned forever from entering the US. So this couple tried a waiver, failed, and they moved to South Korea of all places so they can live together with their family. The laws appear to be changing to make an exception for what happened to the husband.
Furthermore, there are couples who are exiled abroad when the foreign beneficiary has done nothing wrong. In certain countries the documents are so bad that it is extremely time-consuming to double check all documents, and that process can take years. There are plenty of couples on here who have been separated for years, or who have self-exiled during the process.
Another one, a lot of people have to deal with their home countries that are hostile towards their marriages too. in some countries, marrying a different religion is illegal, for instance, so those people have to deal with different issues in that respect. There was a women from Iran who married a US marine, and she had to ask a lot of questions about how to conceal her marriage from her government because she could be in danger.
So, I get that's it's really exciting that this is all changing. And I am sure it feels amazing to be able to file en masse at long last. But I would suggest to no be afraid of the rest of the forum, and to not think that your applications are super different from anyone else's.
Good luck all. See you around the forum

I'm an active duty US Soldier. My husband and I have been married for over a year and met him shortly after I arrived to Germany. He is Italian but born and raised in Germany. We started the process with the US Consulate in Frankfurt and were happy how everyone treated us very well. We'll be moving back to the US in December and submitted the petition for my husband the first week in July. We were told we were the first same sex married couple to submit an application in Frankfurt.
Prior to DOMA my situation has been so very stressful as our future was very uncertain. With the military dictating assignments my chances of staying in Germany or another EU country were slim to none. I'm anxiously awaiting our first letter from the consulate! Thanks to all the binationals who have posted and provided motivation for others.
    Best Wishes,
    Ty

yes James, that is correct. Sort of.
The F2A category is "current" right now, so it means that visa numbers are available immediately for spouses of LPRs. For a short time, spouses of LPRs can do concurrent filings.
Just a few months ago the wait was 2 years or so, and now it is zero.
The clock is ticking for the OP, though, and every day he waits and asks around for something that was already solved, he risks putting himself in a situation where F2A isn't current anymore. Next month it is already not current.
