There is no requirement to be in love.
You both must have the intent to marry within 90 days of her entry with the K-1 visa. You need to be willing and wanting to marry and make your marriage and family unit work. If that is the case, then go ahead and apply. If you think bringing her here to marry her would be the biggest mistake of your life, then don't do it. Get your child a US passport and have frequent visits. See if the mother is willing and able to move to a country that is closer so you could visit easier. Only you two can decide what is best for your lives and that of your child. Think it through well before deciding.
