What planet are you from? It IS "train of thought." "Trend of thought?" Never heard of it.

rhein got a reaction from lierre in Getting Married in Philippines
Quoted for truth. I have read countless crazy stories about, for example, foreign paying hundreds of dollars for a marriage license/judge/etc. and I am not talking about to skirt anything, but just to get married. My wife handled all of this for us, with me tagging along and waiting hopefully somewhat patiently, and paid, I believe, 300 pesos for the marriage license. The judge was an acquaintance - not even a friend mind you - of a friend of my wife's, and married us for free. Indeed, he refused to accept any gift, monetary or otherwise, for his time.
Off topic, for all that I've read over the years of everyone in the Philippines trying to ripoff foreigners, I've never had anyone even try to rip me of. I have lived there on several occasions for periods ranging from 4 months to 7 months. With anything big ticket, I always ask my wife to handle it, since she is a gifted negotiator.

Again...really? I think we paid five dollars to have my wife's 18K wedding band resized in her home town of Borongan, Eastern Samar. The guy even gave us the piece of gold he cut out back. $160? You got scammed BIG TIME.

Just because you made a bad choice and misjudged the character of the person you were involved with doesn't mean everyone who marries someone from another country has the same experience. Some of us are very happily married. Do ya think your bad experience may have biased your point of view just a bit?

I just saw this. This doesn't make any sense. When you file for ROC, the NOA that comes in the mail extends your green card for one year.

You don't live together? That doesn't sound like a genuine marriage to me, on the face of it....

gotta love people who start by saying never listen to anyone here, then render legal opinions as advice themselves.
Interesting to lump priests in with marriage counselors and unnamed state agencies. First of all immigration is federal, not state business. Priests aren't noted for competency in immigration matters, nor are marriage counsellors.
So perhaps the advice should be not to follow the advice of people who demonstrate they have no idea what they are talking about.
