If he has not filed for adjustment of status... Unfortunately, you have no status here... I think you might be better off going back. And without filing for AOS, it is not a matter of him denying you the wife right to work, you are not eligible to work in the USA... Sometimes it is tough to cut the apron strings from mom, and that is near to impossible to do while living in her basement. Have you sat and talked to him about how you feel... This is step 1. But if he refuses to file papers for you, I would RUN home as it shows he is using that to control you and will never change... He took responsibility for your well being when you married, to say he doesn't want the responsibility for you... Unacceptable. You have an education and career and should go back and peruse your life and career... Don't waste yourself on a mom as boy that wants a house maid...

what do you mean do you have a case against him, a case for what? There hasn't been any abuse according to you. If you don't have a green card and you haven't filed adjustment of status your only real option is to go home. Sounds like you will be better off, you can go back to finish your masters, work, and be back with your family. Good luck!

Talk to him in his native language if you really want to understand better, the best way that anyone can express him/her self better is communicating in a language he understand very well. If only he understands english as much as you do maybe you will know where his coming from. People concludes too much here and its no good.

Unfortunately, there are soooo many cases where a mother "visits" the USA to see the grand baby and ends up never going back. The evaluation process is partially based in the actions of others and PHL has a hi rate of family members who do not return and decide to stay n the USA. This is factored in to the decision. Sorry

Well speaking about turkish family. I think we have a lot of responsibilities since they are the ones to live in a different country. Turkish man are the ruler of the house. somethings he would not like you to do since he is here. Believe me some days you will have a fight for any stupid reason but remember he left to be with you and have a family. Therefore, you will have to be patience and love . GOOD LUCK

But after reading forums here...it just wasn't the same as how these other people "are in love" so I started thinking...wow I haven't know this guy too long, the things he said right in the beginning...which I just didn't catch on to...
It's just really a heartbreaking situation
    I feel ashamed and embarrassed

No. You must be BOTH free to marry at the time of filing.

I agree with the other poster here. You both HAVE to be free to get marry by presenting them a divorce decree to prove the termination of her marriage. For more other specific information of country where the beneficiary comes from, I would suggest you to ask Ning. Good luck.

Watch out! She'll be back once she finds out that she can't get a green card except through marriage to the K1 petitioner. This has happened numerous times here on VJ. Many scammers don't do their research before coming to the US. They have their eyes focused only on the visa. They come to the US, dump the petitioner and hit the road, and then find out that they cut the cord too quickly. They can't get a green card by marrying their secret boyfriend, and they can't file a VAWA claim. This is when they start trying to patch things up with the petitioner, saying they got scared and panicked. When that doesn't work she'll probably offer you some cash if you marry her and help her get a green card.
Save any correspondence for your fraud evidence package.

Do you have redflags in your case? If none, fire that lawyer. You can do the process yourselves. Lots of people here on VJ do.

Coming to the US on a tourist visa with intentions of marrying and adjusting status is visa fraud, it can carry a lifetime ban from the US.
The K-1 will not likely take years if your case is straight forwards, which yours seems to be.
She can come to the US, marry, and then leave. You'd file for the Cr-1 spousal visa in that case, the K-3 is a dead visa.
See the guide to figure out what visa is best for you both http://www.visajourney.com/content/compare
    good luck

If you end up having a non-legal ceremony in her country first make sure she is aware that at the point of entry if they have suspicion of you two already being married they will not let her in despite having the K-1 visa. Be sure that if you exchange rings at the ceremony in her country she does not have it on her hand when she is going through customs and that she is aware that if they ask her about you you are not her husband until you have the civil wedding. If she refers to you as her husband rather than fiance or if they have reason to suspect you are already married at the point of entry she will have problems and may be denied entry.

If she's wanting to get married before travelling to the US then she'll need a CR-1 visa, not the K-1. The CR-1 is for spouses and the K-1 is used for those who wish to join/wed their fiance in the USA. She should've made up her mind before as to where the ceremony was to take place. I haven't done much research into K-1's since I married in Germany, but perhaps there are adjustments that can be made to turn it into a CR-1.

I know for sure because when we got married, we lived with my parents as we were trying to find jobs to move to another city...at least that was the plan. That was a year an a half ago approx., so the economy sucked big time. While living with parents (who were making good money), we did not have expenses as my parents were paying their mortgage and their utilities themselves. Anyways, so once his g.c. arrived the plan was to move to another city to start our lives together, but he took off once his g.c. arrived, so this is how there are no joint bills for us at all. This is also why he has nothing to show to the USCIS. Hope I answered your question.
    Thanks for your comment.
P.S. He was not bright if he thought that once he has his green card, then that's it for him

We've talked about possible job prospects for him here; He's also expressed a desire to finish high school which I strongly support. I'm not expecting him to support me financially once were married but I do expect him to contribute. When I visit him I'll tell him I wanna move to JA while he finishes school so that way I can seeeeee his reaction rather than being on the phone.
