It's really quite simple, HE WANTS TO LIVE IN NYC. The kid is just an excuse for him to not move to the place where he can legally live, work and provide a better life for the kids.
I'm moving a deaf autistic child 1,000 miles in 3 weeks. He'll have trouble adjusting to the new environment (going from the suburbs of Chicago to Savannah Ga) and we'll have to find all new service providers for him but after we've all adjusted it will be better for not only the kids but the family as a whole.

I grew up in Toronto, also had asthma, and also experienced New York winters in my childhood. There is at least NO difference or as several others have said here, overall better conditions in Toronto and definitely in BC than NY. VJ'ers here are knowledgeable, helpful, sincere folks with a good heart, but you are being emotionally stubborn against their well thought out advice. It's a NO BRAINER to take your family to settle in Canada in the best interest of your 2 children, if you care for them as much as you say. You've aparently gone through so much hardship and sacrifice for the sake of your children and now, you're not willing to move them to a good environment and safe from outcomes that might tear your family apart??? Something doesn't add up here. I wasn't born yesterday, so don't waste these good VJ'ers' time any more.

I spent 10 years as a single father and not once did I use them as an excuse to break the law.
You claim the 9 year old can't live in Canada because of the cold climate yet you live in New York with all of the pollution and cold winters, I guess Canada doesn't have heating in the winter?
What kind of example are you setting for your children? Break the law when it works for you because you can get away with it... If the kids can survive NYC then why can't they survive Toronto, I would guess only because you want to live in the US.
If you really cared about what's best for your kids you'd move them to the place where you could actually work to support them and set a good example as a parent instead of being selfish & childish complaining about how bad your situation is. Get divorced, move to Canada and be a good Dad to your kids.

Yes, and they should, but not to keep their card at a zero balance, but to keep below that 30% mark, if you're going to go over it, because you use your card more often than the limit allows for, then pay it off midway through. Then when the balance gets reported you're okay, just use that mark, (like I said in another post for those with a 500$ card, that's only 150$) and any time you have to go over it, go home and make a payment!

I don't normally go in this forum, but this thread showed up on the main page. I should probably set aside my personal feelings about the OP's use of words, language and overall arrogance about this topic, but wow...
First of all, the OP's user name looks like a first name and last initial. I bet it wouldn't be hard to figure out exactly who this person is if someone from the government really does read this forum, as speculated. What about the email address used to sign up for this site? Wouldn't she be afraid of the mods reporting her? Maybe there's a reason why these posts are never deleted and can only be edited after a short time.
If she's in a real, legitimate relationship, then she just got lucky. I wanted to ignore this thread, but this whole situation makes me sad when I think about all of the effort me and my guy have put in to do things right and legally - all the time we've had to spend apart. He's from the UK too and visited twice under the VWP and never overstayed. Everyone on this forum who has to deal with sacrifice... the OP's post is just a slap in the face.

You cannot fly from a major Canadian airport into the US and do immigration after you arrive in the US. All US immigration processing now takes place in the Canadian airport before you leave for the US so if you wanted to be processed in the US you would need to use a land crossing POE. - or fly to Europe and then fly back to the US. If you fly from Canada you won't go through US immigration at a US airport. You will go through US immigrations in the Canadian airport.

The spouse's work history from the time of green card issuance also contributes to the qualifying hours, so if both work full time, after 5 years this criteria is met.

The I 864 which needs to be signed for him to get the green card expires when
    He dies
    Your mom dies
He leaves the US and gives up the green card
He works 40 qualifying quarters ( which IS NOT the same as being here 10 years)
Also some immigrants have divorced and used the I864 to justify support post marriage
note that divorce does not terminate the I 864
Opps forgot the him getting USC

When you have to deal with a repub house majority that is determined to see Obama fail even to the detriment of the population at large and a senate repub minority willing to use the filibuster on virtually everything the president wants what do you expect? While I would like to see him go after these repubs more aggressively, the blame for lack of action on a jobs bill and many other items lies with an obstructionist republican congress! Even with this uphill battle he has been fighting he HAS turned things around from the disaster dubya created!

Presidents get way more credit for a good/bad economy than they deserve. Presidents are only as effective as the congress behind them. There is only so much a president can do without the support of congress.
However, that is not to say that government has no effect on the economy. The government, cumulatively at all levels, is after all the largest single employer. It has the power to set laws and enforce them. It also controls the tax rates on income and tariffs on imports.
Its rather ironic though, at a time when we need to create more jobs, the public sector is cutting them like crazy. In some cases its due to a lack of funds, and in other cases due to small government ideology. Unfortunately, private industry is not going to be hiring as much as they used to (Some might blame outsourcing but productivity/efficiency/automation improvements are likely a larger factor).
Since the tea party is more interested in pushing their ideology over solving problems, we are probably going to stay in this situation for a long time to come.

My boyfriend is a member of another forum, and they manage to have very intelligent and often heated political discussion threads that go on for many, many pages without parties resorting to name-calling. It's probably because they actually want to debate the issues, instead of calling each other epithets. It would be a great model for VJ, but unfortunately it's probably impossible because the membership bases are quite different.

The P&R forum doesn't exactly promote activity. It's fun to have intelligent discussions about the important topics, but it's nearly impossible without some insult flinging and personal attacks if you dare to disagree. From what I've seen, anyway, but that could just be me.

I disagree. Not everyone is the same and people do make mistakes. Saylin is giving her husband a second chance. He claims he will change and that he wants her in his life. I see absolutely nothing wrong with giving someone a second chance. I am sure if he messed up a second time, the outcome would be different. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me!

No, proving a very new marriage is not harder than proving a relationship. USCIS understands when people are newlyweds. Furthermore, London is a very easy consulate because fraud is exceptionally low. There is no set time someone must live in UK in order to "prove a marriage."
Whoever you talked to gave you bad advice... Probably the "misinformation line."

I agree. Either that or apply for the K-1 now, move to the US and get married at the courthouse, which would need to be before the wedding you have planned in the UK. Then return to the UK on vacation for the non-legal ceremony.

I suggest you two (Saylin and husband) kill all of your computer gaming accounts, build a workshop , and start building things together with tools. If the 'purty underbritches' suggestion didn't work, then 'being together face to face doing something' can be useful.

Not sure what trouble you think this "possibility" is saving you. It's not like you have a choice of POE. Once you buy the ticket, the POE choice has been made. They don't sell tickets for international flights that have "options" as to the POE or that will arrive at an airport that is NOT a POE. The exceptions are the pre-clearance airports outside the USA. You can choose which ticket to buy, not what your POE will be.
