Advance Parole Document

I was reading the instructions for filling out form I-131 to apply for the Advance Parole Document and got a little worried...

I'm not sure I would use it if I got one while I'm waiting for the green card, but I thought I might as well apply as it's free to apply together with the AOS and depending on how long that takes I thought it might give me a chance to go and see family and friends in Sweden together with my husband. I also thought that it could be especially good to have one already in case something were to happen later on.

But reading the instructions it sounds like there's no guarantee that they would let me back in making this very risky. It says that upon returning, even if there was no problem, I would be "an applicant for admission". After everything we've been through with waiting for the K1 visa, the pandemic and all the waiting I just would NOT want to risk anything.

So my question is what experiences you guys have had with this? Is it true that most people apply for it since it's free anyway with the AOS application? Has anyone used it and how did that work out?

Moved to new state - retake written DL test before or after removing GC conditions?

Hello!

I recently moved from Arizona to California. I have a GC but have not removed conditions yet. I've got a DL from Arizona, which expires at the same time as my GC - November 15th this year. I haven't gotten around to getting my CA license yet, but I'm obviously planning to. With a valid DL from another state I just need to redo the written test.

My question is, does it matter if I do it before or after I remove GC conditions? My window to apply to remove conditions opens in August (90 days before GC expires), so in a way it feels like I could process that first and get conditions removed, which would also make any new DLs I get valid for a longer time. At the same time, I would not want my AZ license to expire, because then I have to redo the behind-the-wheel test as well. I'd like to make this as easy for myself as well as for the DMV which I know don't always deal with GC situations correctly. Anyone else who was in a similar situation with any advice? Thanks!

I can put my new last name on the AOS, right? (merged)

Hi,

I'm new on the AOS forum. I'm a K1 from Sweden that moved to Chicago and got married a few weeks ago.

My question is about my last name on the AOS (I-485). I'm changing my last name to my husband's last name, but as of yet I don't have any ID with my new last name nor have I legally changed it in Sweden yet (which might be a little while with snail mail, processing times and all ). I do remember hearing before, though, that as a K1 that want to change your last name it's okay to just write the new one from the start when you're filling out the application... So is this correct? I don't want to get into trouble since it's asking for my current legal name... but I do also realize that legal name changes after marriage might be different in Sweden (where it has to be applied for) and the US. So just double checking.

Travel after AOS interview but before Green Card arrives

I got my interview notice scheduled for June 22nd which is amazing after all this waiting. However, me and my husband has planned a trip to my home country July 2nd which is roughly a week and a half after my AOS interview.

What do we do if I have not received my card by then? Is it possible to receive a temporary stamp or something along those lines? Am I able to still use my Combo card?

Just looking for some guidance on how to navigate this or if we should attempt to push our trip up by a few days.

Thanks!!
