When we found out that you needed to report our marriage to the Philippines Embassy in Houston, Texas we went on-line and reviewed the requirements, man oh man it brought flashbacks to the 129F, St Lukes and the Embassy in Manilla. So much paperwork and the necessity to file original documents. We tried are very best to comply and sent notarized copies, 4 of everything, and to our surprise they returned our application and said they would only accept original documents and then laid out 7 additional requirements. We called the Embassy and tried to make an appointment and they said they would not allow us to make an appointment, but we could come in and take a chance they would see us. I am blown away with the paperwork requirement and we are seriously considering not complying. If we don't record the marriage what is the downside?

We have an appointment at a passport office. Will the passport office need to retain the Certificate of Naturalization

Hi all.

VJ has been a huge help. Thanks to all who have read and replied to our past postings. My wife has now received her Certificate of Naturalization (we used the N-400 to finally make her surname). We now have an appointment at a passport office to apply for US Passports for my wife and her 16 year old son.

For her son: we will be using his mom's Certificate of Naturalization, our marriage certificate, his Certificate of Birth (abroad), and his green card (we failed to do the I-90 update his green card when he turned 14, but the card indicates that is still valid until 2026).

For my wife we will bring her Certificate of Naturalization (and I don't think anything else for her is required).

We will also bring photo copies of every document I have listed, DS-11's, and passport photos.

Is the passport office going to need to keep her original Certificate of Naturalization? We will need her original Certificate of Naturalization to pursue her driver's license in June.

And with her recent change to her surname, I think we may need the original Certificate of Naturalization again when she updates her Social Security info.

Does anyone see a stumble ahead for us? Our appointment with the passport office is next Friday.

Mike

Interview scheduled forgot to notify USCIS of new address

Hey everyone. I just checked my wife's I-751 status on the USCIS website. After over 2 and a half years it finally says an interview was scheduled on April 7th and a notice was mailed. The only problem is we moved a couple months ago and I totally forgot to change our address with USCIS. A few questions here. How long does it take for them to mail the notice after the interview is scheduled? I'm assuming the notice was already mailed and returned to USCIS being that it has been 10 days already. How long after the notice is the interview scheduled for? Is it possible we already missed the interview date? If I were to call USCIS on Monday would they give me the interview date over the phone? What is the best way to handle this situation? We have moved a few times over the last couple years and I always updated our address with USCIS. I just had so much going on this time it slipped my mind. Can my wife get in trouble for not updating her address?

Article: What Happened When the U.S. Government Tried to Make the Immigration System Digital

I found this a fascinating behind the scenes look at how USCIS processes the mountains of paperwork we send them, and how difficult it's been to digitize/streamline the process.

A worthwhile read for anyone who's ever wondered why the immigration process is so slow and inefficient, and why some people's files get mixed up / documents get lost in the shuffle.

Identity Document for naturalized daughter

Hi guys,

I told my step daughter to get her learners permit and was not able to proceed because we don't have an identity document for her. She and her mom came to the US in 2011 via K1 and K2 visas. They got their US citizenship in 2017. Mom got her documents at the searing in ceremony but nothing was provided for the daughter.

Now the MVA says that she needs and identity document from USCIS. I have been away from USCIS and the immigration progress since 2017. What form do we need to submit to get proof of identity for my stepdaughter?

Thanks
