My 10 years Green Card was lost by USPS and I changed my name

Hello,

After having my I-751 approved, I was sent the 10 years green card to my mail address but I have never received it. I reached out to USPS and they admitted they lost it. So frustrating!!!

After a month or so, I changed my last name for few reasons so I ll need to update my new Green Card.

I know I need to file I-90 to replace my Green Card, but what reason should I enter? Card was lost or destroyed? Or legal name was changed? They both apply!! And will the fee be waived since the GC was lost? I m not sure what to do.

Thanks!!

Just wanted to pass along some updates in case this helps anyone. We really agonized over the decision between K-1 and CR1 (I-130). We finally decided it was better to get married and go the CR-1 route. BEST. DECISION. EVER. 219 days from submission on the I-130 to the interview date. I highly recommend the CR1 route! Yes - I have a lawyer (and you need a lawyer, too). Yes - I filed Expedite Requests that were denied. Yes - I filed a 129 (K-3) and got denied on that, too. Just passing along my experience ... good luck to everyone. #1 piece of advice: GET A GOOD LAWYER. It makes a huge difference. Little mistakes (made by YOU) will cause massive delays. A lawyer will make sure everything is right the first time.

Got my GC approved while on vacation... Should I get it mailed to me?

Hi guys, I hope you can provide me with some advice about my situation.

So, a couple of days before my departure for Europe for a family trip, I got called by an USCIS officer saying that he approved my GC that day.
I was so happy!!!

... But what about my trip? There was no way for me to get my GC in the mail before leaving.
So I asked the officer what my options were and he said that as long as I have a valid advance parole (which I do) I will be fine. Upon reentry, the officer admitting me will simply see that my GC was approved, but I should be able to get back in with the AP alone, without phisically having the GC in my hands (as it might take up to 30 days for them to mail to me), so that I should just go on my trip without worrying about it.

... Except that I DO worry about it as it's my experience that what one officer says might not be what another thinks and I believe I red somewhere that people were saying that you won't be admitted back in the country if you don't have your GC with you.

So I left 4 days ago (with my kid who is a USC), so now I'm in Europe and I just got notified that tomorrow my card will be delivered to my home address in the US. I'm supposed to get back to the US in 12 days, so I might have the card mailed to me by my partner (USC) who stayed in the US... But it would be VERY expensive and there is always the risk of mail getting lost, so I'd rather avoid doing that if not really necessary.

What do you guys think? Does anyone have relevant experience to share? Should I get the card mailed to me or just trust the officer who approved my GC and said that I can use my advance parole to get back in?

Adjustment of Status after marriage

If someone traveling from Europe to the USA on ESTA, meets (after they arrive here) and marries them in the USA (after day 91)... and he never leaves. The couple did not know each other before the trip so they could not be misrepresenting themselves upon arrival. When he applies for adjustment of status, he can stay while the adjustment is being processed. QUESTION: CAN HE WORK WHILE WAITING FOR THE DECISION? not talking about me -- Asking for a friend of my husband.

Change of address with pending I-751 since June 2021. When to submit AR-11?

Hi,

I filed for ROC in June 2021, completed biometrics in July 2021, and I ve been waiting ever since. My case is in Potomac and the status was never updated from Case Was Received .

In 2 days my husband and I will be moving from Florida to Illinois. We have just filed the USPS Change of Address form, and we were wondering if we should go ahead and update our new address with USCIS as well.

On the USCIS website, it is recommended to file for the address change within 10 days of moving.
Would there be any issues if we filed a couple of days before our actual move?

We ve been reading about bad experiences with the update to a new address here on VJ and Reddit.

Could anyone share their experience?
thanks!
