US Immigration from Canada

Hi all,

My USC husband and I (a permanent resident from Canada) have three young kiddos (6,3,13mths) and he has left our family (rented) home. He was the one to sign the Affidavit of Support. We ve been married for 7 years, he is unwilling to work on the marriage anymore (although this has been very seldom anyways) and he wants a divorce (hoping to go through a mediator later on).

I am currently a stay at home mom as the primary caregiver and try to work on my bookkeeping business when I can.

We are in Washington State which is a community property state and have approx. $20,000 in debt (although the creditors are going after him since the cards were in his name). If I stay in the US instead of returning to Canada (and hopefully being able to bring my kids with me), is he required to pay my portion of the debt also or what are the limitations of the Affidavit? Thanks

Hi all, I was approved and my visa was sent to me today! I am well aware that the yellow envelope is not to be opened and I tried to cut open the postal envelope without cutting it but was not successful. I sliced about an inch of the yellow envelope but not documents inside were damaged. I put tape over it to avoid further damage. Will this amount of damage need a re-sealing or should it be fine?

I e-mailed my consulate and am waiting for a reply. I also asked my consulate facebook group and so far all comments have said it will be okay.

After mailing off our EAD, AoS, and AP forms I received correspondence for my biometrics appointment. After that we heard nothing until suddenly I received my PR card in the mail, as well as my approval letter.

The letter with the card states I can now work in the US. Is the card indicative that I can work here legally now? I had anticipated a second document.

We had also expected another interview. We went through one before my approval to move from Canada, so perhaps since we did one it's not needed? Or is there more to come?

The letters we received made it sound like this was the end, but the more I read online, and in these forums, I'm just not sure.

I'm in the NVC part and I'm now required to obtain my police record from Canada. I'm residing in California, USA and I'm trying to understand the right steps to obtaining the police record without flying back to Canada

Do I go to my local police station in the US and request a finger print scan and electronically submit it to the RCMP? If that's the case, what do I tell the police officers?

Also how long will it take to get the police record?

Are they counting the same things? I received a notice from VisaJourney that my estimated waiting time is over 10 months. But on the official US government submission portal it says 2 months. Which is more accurate?
