IR1 - DS 260 supporting civil docs for Quebec expats - NVC made a mistake ! (?)

I thought I'd share my experience for the Quebec-born visa seekers, as I found very little info on the matter -

I completed my NVC doc for IR1 visa on Sept 25th and got a reply at the end of December; my birth certificate and marriage certificate were rejected with the following somehwat imprecise message:

Please replace this with an acceptable marriage certificate from a correct issuing authority. Please use our Document Finder at https://nvc.state.gov/find for acceptable documents guidelines.

As per the link, Quebec folks need to submit a "Certified copy of an act" from the Directeur de l' tat Civil, which is what I had provided. Because the NVC msg is so imprecise, there's no way to know what was the issue with the docs, or if it's a NVC mistake.

I called the NVC line and after two hours of hold, the gentleman said he could not see any issue with the docs, and that I needed to resubmit the exact same docs with a explanatory note.

The docs are then put at the back of the NVC queue, which means that they will not be reviewed for another 3 months.

I escalated to his superior and sent an email using "Ask NVC", but the response delays are about 6 weeks for both.

All that to say, if NVC makes an error on those QC docs - which seems to be the case here - applicants seem to have no recourse. Applicants just go back to the end of the line. Especially frustrating if there is indeed something wrong with the docs, which would mean I'd have to wait 3 months to get that feedback and another 3 months to correct, for a total of *drumroll* 9 months in the NVC queue.

Seems extremely unproductive for both NVC and applicants, but hey, wouldn't be the first odd process in all this madness.

I-130 for 20 year old son filed 2020

good morning yall.

april 2020 we filed a CR1 for my husbands (at the time) 20 year old son. Other than receiving the NOA1, we have had no notifications/communication regarding it. Which was fine as he was finishing University and we didn't expect it to go through until around when he was to graduate (obviously we wanted him to finish school before coming) and to get the application in before he turned 21. He turns 22 in April of this year.

I wouldnt really put much thought into the length of time it has been, other than I notice the date on the case history says 'invalid date'. We have received no notifications or communications regarding the petition, so I am just wondering if that is normal, or if I (or hubby since he filed the petition for his son), need to make a call to see what is going on.

pics to show exactly what I am looking at.

Courthouse Wedding before actual wedding? Will it raise questions? CR1

Hi all! New to this site & excited to start the process with my fianc - we've known each other for 3 years, dating for 1.5 & newly engaged on Christmas. We're ready to spend our forever together.

I'm from Ontario, Canada, he's from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. I've visited him numerous times over the past years and since our relationship grew organically, we have no issues with committing to each other now. We've been toying with the idea of just making things official with a courthouse ceremony with the two of us in Florida now & having our grand ceremony this summer with family & friends in July. My question is - will this raise questions during the CR1 process? If we do the paperwork now & celebration later?

Thanks in advance!

Tax Implications for Canadian Permanent Resident and US LPR working for Canadian Company in US

I am moving to US in Feb 2022 on CR1. I am a Canadian Permanent Resident. I understand that I am authorised to work in the US remotely for my Canadian employer. I will no longer have a residence in Canada or any investments here. I will be residing in New Hampshire and will be working from home there.

I wanted to confirm what my tax implications would be. If you are familiar with US/ Canada taxation, please help to confirm/ correct my understanding of the following:

1. I would remain a Canadian tax resident, and need to pay income tax to both the province where my company is based and the federal Govt of Canada.

2. I would have to pay US federal income tax. However it would only be the difference between the taxes paid in Canada, if any. In other words I can avoid double taxation, because the Canadian tax is generally higher than the US.

3. Question - When filing taxes in the US, would there be any benefit of filing taxes married filing separately over married filing jointly ? What are the pros and cons of both in my scenario.

If anyone has any resources to share, that would be appreciated. I couldn t find much literature online about my scenario

Thanks very much for reading, and I hope someone has advice for me
