Which Visa Do I Choose?

I know there are tons of these, and I have read many, but I would like opinions on what I should do.

I have known my BF for 3 years, but we've only "officially" dated for 3 months, but we are looking to get married. He is born and raised in USA, I am born and raised in Canada. We are having trouble trying to figure out what would be best.

I am in school (online), so I will be busy for awhile, and he works full time.

If we choose the K1 route, we would get to be together, but that does mean I can't work for awhile, and I can't visit back home. That's not insanely terrible, but I will miss my immediate family, but can probably deal if it's hopefully max a year until I can leave the country again. As for being bored, I thankfully am in school (online, full-time), so I will be quite busy, but also have plenty to do around the house, and outside in the city. My boyfriend will also be supporting me of course.

If we choose the CR1 route, It seems I am free to come and go to the US as I please, but It can still take a long time before I can actually be there with him. It's nice to have less steps, and GC ready when I arrive, but I don't know how much it's worth it, If It's going to take really long before I can even be with him in-person/in the states.

My other dilemma is the "proof". I can shot chatlogs, facetime (we video chat everyday, and talk a lot when we aren't), etc., and I'm going to visit him next month. The K1 seems a little be easier to provide proof as we aren't "married", so there isn't any crazy joint assets to provide, but maybe it's just as difficult?

Please give me your advice, as well as our "short" time frame of our actual relationship. I don't want to raise red flags, or cause un-necessary problems in our application.

Thank you!

Hi folks,

Anyone has an idea how accurate/reliable the "processing timeline" on USCIS website is even with rough estimates/guestimates.

Fact is that I filed Form i-130 in Sept of 2017 (literally 60 months ago) -> USCIS for Vermont Center (that is where file is) shows "estimated" processing time 55.5 months, I know it's just an "estimate" & Please be aware that I am NOT being impatience - I am more curious than anything knowing that (obviously) I can't do nothing. Just wanted extra a set of different thought process that what you guys think. I know it is what it is.

Thanks,

sn

Retrieval of old DS 160 from 2011 (merged)

Hello

I'm in the process for the cr1 visa right now and out of due diligence and because I'm paranoid, want to get a copy of what I submitted when I did my tourist visa that was approved in 2011. At the time I went to visit my ex boyfriend and provided a letter from his family, a student transcript and my Canadian permanent card and got approved. I'm now a citizen and soon going to have an interview in Montreal. Is it possible to find your old DS 160 if you don't have the application ID? How often do questions from the DS 160 are asked of CR1 applicants? To clarify I don't recall I ever misrepresented the truth but I want to make sure I remember what info I provided the consulate in case they do ask about it.

Applying For US Passport (First Time)

Hello Everyone :) ,

I am having my Oath Ceremony on September 20th (5 More Days) and I am planning to go back to visit my family in a couple of months with my husband in Canada to celebrate that amazing day for me.

So my question is that I hear many different things from different people and I wish to see which one would be accurate.

I was told to fill out the Passport form, Print it out and bring it to the Oath Ceremony with a Passport size photo than the people at the ceremony they can expedite it and have the passport done without me mailing out my certificate which is my biggest fear to do cause I don t trust mailing important documents like a citizenship certificate.

and another person tells me to just go to USPS right after the ceremony and they do it all for you and you can do a walk in.

just trying to do which way is correct to make sure I get my passport in a timely matter and have time to drive back home and not be super late in the night.

Leaving close to expiry date - was this a bad idea?

My K1 visa was approved and issued May 10, 2022 with an expiry date of October 27, 2022. This made sense to me as my medical exam was April 27 and normally your visa expiry date is 6 months from the medical.

Unlike many others in my interview month cohort, I planned on entering the US and activating the visa much later, for several reasons:

-The interview was selected for me by the consulate and much earlier than I had expected

-Wanting to save up some more money before quitting my job

-Having to finish some financial affairs and selling things

-Visiting elderly grandparents who live across the country

My flight to the US is booked for September 27 and my understanding is that this would be okay as my visa expiry isn t until October 27.
However, I ve recently become paranoid that maybe this was a mistake to wait so long and I ll encounter trouble at POE. I recently read a thread about a woman who was denied entry at POE by an uneducated customs officer because her I-129f PETITION was expired (mine expired May 20).

Or, I m worried that having waited too long to leave will cause more scrutiny by the customs officers somehow.

My questions 1) has anyone else entered the US close to the expiry date? Did you have any issues?

2) should I be worried about having an expired I-129f petition, even though it has nothing to do with the visa expiry date, customs officers might get confused?

thank you!
