I-864 question that seems impossible for me to answer

I have searched for hours regarding this question, but I can not for the life of me find a definitive answer. Just when I think I have, I find another source worded a little bit differently that once again casts doubt on any certainty.

My situation:

My wife and I live in Canada (no kids). She is a USC (passport holder) who has never lived USA. We are planning to relocate to the USA and will shortly begin the process for her to sponsor me for PR. We have a solid plan to demonstrate a compelling intent to establish a US domicile when we get to that point in the process. At this point, we are planning to relocate together upon my receipt of a visa.

Ideally, the timing of submission would enable me to cite my pension income for the purposes of the I-864. However, we will likely start this process before I am actually drawing my pension, and thus will need to go the asset route. I have more than enough liquid assets to satisfy the asset requirement, even if neither of us show can show any income from a US source when we move. My understanding is we will be subject to the 3x requirement, but perhaps someone can't check me on this.

In sum, we currently live together in Canada, our household size is 2, and we will be using my assets. We do not intend to use, nor do we have the luxury of, a joint sponsor.

My question:

  1. If we are using only my assets, do I need to fill out an I-864A?
  2. Do these assets need to be located in the USA? If so, for how long?

To the second question, I know the FAQ states that assets don't need to be located in the USA to be leveraged in this way, but I have a few anecdotal accounts from people who have gone through the process and were told in their interview that the assets needed to be located in the US. As a result, they needed to scramble to find a joint sponsor, an option my wife and I will not have, as she has no family remaining in the USA.

Any clarity that anyone could provide would be immensely appreciated.

A member sent in a report about the DCF guides not being accurate. The guides need updating. If members can post here the requirements to qualify for DCF it would be useful to be able to update the guides.

US Medical Review for Dr. Lyndon Mascarenhas in Toronto

Hey all!

I had my medical appointment with Dr. Lyndon Mascarenhas on July 4th and I couldn't have been happier with how easy it was. My appointment was at 10:15AM and because I knew I'd have to fill out a questionnaire, I arrived 30 minutes early. As soon as I came in, I said my name and she asked for my ID. I left my passport in the car (idiot! lol) and then said I would be right back. She told me that I was fine because they already had my passport scan via email and just needed another photo ID to verify I was me. IMPORTANT: Make sure you bring your DS-260! Luckily I didn't forget THAT in the car lol

She gave me the questionnaire right away to fill out which only took maybe 5 minutes to fill it out. I handed it back and she immediately told me to go to room 1 to await the doctor. Dr. Mascarenhas came in about 10-15 minutes later and went through my vaccine checklist, asked me about any medical conditions and medications I was on then checked off things, handed me my requisition for blood work and sent me downstairs for X-Rays. Before I left the office, I paid the $350 for the appointment and then off I went. I was done with Dr Mascarenhas and X-rays before my appointment was even scheduled to begin at 10:15.

Here's where it got long - blood work. They sent me over to Life Labs across the street (next to the Pizza Pizza) to go get that part done. When I walked in, they were already at a 111 minute wait. After about 100 minutes, I was finally seen and they did what they had to do. All in all, everything took me under 2 hours.

SUPER easy! And I already got the email confirmation (just today actually) that they had sent me results and what not to the consulate. I think I should be good for my August 8 interview.

Does anyone have experience with holding 1 nationality at the time of submitting DS-260 and then by the time of the interview holding two?

I am a British citizen living in Canada and recently became a Canadian citizen too. When I started this visa process I wasn't a Canadian citizen yet, now that I am do I need to update anything online or would just bringing my Canadian passport as well as my British passport be ok? I am worried that something is going to have drastically changed and it might delay their approving my green card

Also, a lot of information has changed on my ds-260 form now. I just tried to log onto my account and update the DS260 and it won't let me. Assuming that just bringing along the amendments to the interview would be ok?

if anyone has experience with this that would be great! thanks

Hi everyone,

I am planning to import my car at the land border in a few months as I make my move. I have a 2019 Hyundai Elantra. I own the car and have paid it off. I have not done anything yet in terms of the paperwork, etc. and feel extremely overwhelmed. Can anyone please help me find an easy to understand and clear list of things that need to get done to import my vehicle?

Thank you!
