PSA: If entering the USA 2 years after marriage, kindly remind the immigration officer of this
When we last entered the US, our immigration officer said "Oh, hmm I wonder if I could go ahead and change you an IR-1."  The agent right next to him said "Yes, you can do that" and he acted surprised. His comments made it pretty clear he was going to erroneously issue us a CR-1 and he seemed to not even know he could change the visa status until his coworker advised him (THANK GOODNESS she overheard!).  I don't know how onerous the process is to correct such an oversight but I'm glad we didn't have to find out!

Just wanted to pass this along in the hopes it saves someone from any problems with the wrong stamp being placed in the passport, as I've read about here before....  I would kindly remind the officer "We married >2 years ago.  We can enter with an IR-1 visa now right?"

Traveled to Canada for 20 days after entering the U.S. on a K-1 visa (June 1–22). Seeking reentry under Automatic Visa Revalidation (AVR).
I entered the U.S. on a K-1 visa on June 1st and left for Canada on June 2nd, remaining here for 20 days. I am now attempting to return to the U.S. through Toronto Pearson Airport (YYZ) using Automatic Visa Revalidation (AVR). My K-1 visa is expired, but my I-94 is still valid. Am I ok?

Wrong USCIS application form filed by my lawyer!
Hello, so my wife came in k-1 visa to USA and we got married and all. We filled for work permit and green card together but while doing that my lawyer filed for I-130 no idea why. Will that application make my process for work permit and green card slow? If so how do I withdrawal that application? My lawyer isn’t helpful at all. I need some help…

Seeking advice for Thai/US couple - What US visa path to take?
My gf and I live in Thailand but spend 2-4months in the US per year. Once/if we have children age 5+, the time split would become vice versa. We have no plans to live full-time in the United States in the next 5 years, but I visit my family and friends 2-3x per year for 2-3 weeks at a time. I would love it if she can join me for those trips and experience that part of my life. What options do we have -- US visa wise, maybe a tourist or fiance visa later? Other?

Abandoned AOS and now regret it
Please be nice, I know I made a mistake... But got my K1 approved and arrived in the US June 25, 2024 and applied for AOS February 25, 2025 -- then left the US (abandoned my AOS). Will I be banned for re-entry to the US -- even under a spouse visa?

US Citizen with Foreign Fiancé: When and How to Get Married?
I'm currently living and working in the United States. My fiancé currently lives in Japan. We have been dating for about 6 months, and we have met in person several times, but we are not yet married.
My fiancé will be visiting me in the United States on a tourist visa some time in March or April and staying for about 3 months. I want to file for a fiance/spouse visa asap -- what's next?

My fianc and I recently got the first our first approval for I129F.

Because she was previously in the US on J1 visa and subject to 2 year home residency rule, she had to go back and stay there for 2 years. We are quickly approaching the 2 year mark for the end of May.

Can she apply for K1 visa through form DS-160 before the 2 years is up? Can she do the visa interview before the 2 years is up? Because these processes will take several months and by the time everything is approved it will easily be through the 2 year period.

    Thanks!

We received a notice from the Johannesburg consulate that they had received our case on 06-Feb-2026, but have not been able to find an appointment slot. Going on 2 months now, does Johannesburg still notify us of an appointment date? Are we wasting our time checking multiple times a day? Does anyone know what time/day they release K1 visa appointment slots so we can check more intensely at those times?

    Police report/certificate requirement

I m currently going through the K-1 fianc visa process and could really use some clarification from others who have recently gone through this, especially anyone with a beneficiary in Pakistan.

My fianc e is in Pakistan and recently received an email from usvisascheduling.com with instructions for her upcoming interview. One part of the instructions has me a bit confused. It states:

If you are older than 16 years of age, police certificates are not required from Pakistan. However, an original police certificate is required from any country that you resided in for more than 6 months.

This is where I m unsure. I was always under the impression that a police certificate from Pakistan is a required document that must be brought to the interview. Now this message seems to suggest otherwise, which is throwing me off a bit.

I just want to make sure we don t miss anything important that could delay or negatively impact the visa process. Has anyone here recently gone through a K-1 interview in Pakistan and can confirm whether the police certificate is actually required or not?

For those who have already completed the interview:

    • Did you bring a police certificate from Pakistan?
    • Were you asked for it during the interview?
    • Did anyone proceed without one and still get approved?

Any recent experiences or official clarification would really help ease my confusion. I d rather be overprepared than risk an issue at the interview.

    Thank you

There was talk about USCIS now asking about proof of good character for N400, like charity work, neighborhood involvement, interviews with neighbors even. Has this started to happen? None of the sample interviews I've seen on youtube recently has this come up at all.

    thanks

    Intent to re-establish domicile

My husband and I are both living in Canada with our two kids and about to submit our affidavit of support. Our lawyer insists we have to say I m living in the USA at my husband s interview but says I don t have to actually live there - just use my parent s address. But we refuse to lie. So we assumed I will have to move there with the kids before his interview.

Chat Gpt says we can instead just show that we have intent to reestablish domicile after his visa is approved and move there after with the evidence we have:

-He has a letter from his US employer saying they will hire him directly instead of through an intermediary once he has his visa.

-I have a US bank account (from before I came to Canada) that we ve been moving money over into,

-my voter registration is still active.

    - I intend to get my drivers license and moving quotes, and hopefully have a rental house lined up before the interview.

Our lawyer insists if we say I m still in Canada that they will deny his visa. Is that true? Do I have to move ahead with the kids, or do we have enough evidence for the interview to show that we intend on moving after he gets his visa? We don t want to blow it and get a denial

Hello friend. I saw your dates on Visa Journey and they were close to mine. I was wondering if you have received your visa interview date in Ciudad Juarez? If so, can you share with me the date you received the notification and the date of your interview. I'm tracking other petitioners who are waiting for appointments in Ciudad Juarez, and I like to share monthly news.

Good Afternoon all... Can anybody point me in the right direction... I am a New Yorker (US citizen) I  filed my I-130 for my  Dominican spouse in Dec. 2025. We are now expecting. How does this change my application... Or what changes do I need to make/take. The baby is due around November 2026.  By then my wife will probably still be waiting for the  NVC interview. How would I then add a child to my application if I already sent it in? Can I at all get my child a US Passport or because they will be born abroad have the citizenship of that country DR. Please be easy with your responses and not rude. This is a learning process for me.
