I had my N400 interview at the Honolulu office on Jan 12th 2026. The officer said everything looked good on his end, but supervisor approval and background checks would be needed.

As of May 15th, I had not heard anything, so I called to find out they had just gotten the background check results.

Wondering if anyone here has had their case handled at the Honolulu office and how long they had to wait for a response.

Also, how far in advance was the ceremony scheduled?

I had planned some international travel in the summer and now I'm wondering if it's best to stay put until hear back, or it's safe for me to leave and re-enter using my green card (short travel <1 month). I receive emails when my case is updated and I can log into myUSCIS to see any updates and fly back to the US if needed.

I'm wondering if trying to re-enter the country while I'm in this limbo would be a problem.

TIA!

Aloha! Personally, I would wait to travel, but not necessarily cancel my trip if it has already been paid and/or if you still have time to cancel. Though I did live in Kihei, Maui for a bit of time, my wife did this process in Ft Myers, FL. For us, it went super fast; she got the interview scheduled (the longest part of the wait), then after the interview, she received a phone call to attend the ceremony in less than a week.

Another "problem" to add if they become citizen they will need to get a passport so that will take an extra couple of weeks.

In theory you are free to travel as long as this trip doesn't push your eligibility of citizenship (continuous presence and all that) so the question is how important the trip is vs waiting out and getting the passport.
