Community SpotlightDV Lottery of K1 Visa - Can I file for both?
Petrisaint Mpaka posted a topic in K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedures,
I applied for the DV lottery 2025 and hope to be selected this year. My fiancé and I discovered that there is a fiancé visa for the USA. Do you think if we apply for the K1 visa but are selected for the DV lottery that we can stop the fiancé visa process? What are the timelines and options here :)?-

Confused about steps after marriage
SP1988 posted a topic in Adjustment of Status (Green Card) from K1 and K3 Family Based Visas,
My fiancee arrived last month on K1 fiance visa and we got married yesterday. It seems from what I have seen online that I made a mistake by not getting SSN prior to marriage? I am going to the SSN office on Monday to gather more information... also worried about employment authorization and travel authorization(s). Thanks for any insights!-

Tourist visa cancelled by CBP agent. Can we still get a CR1 or K1 Visa?
yotajeeper posted a topic in What Visa Do I Need - Family Based Immigration,
Upon my gf's most recent arrival, her tourist visa was cancelled at the airport due to her frequent visits last year and suspicion of working here. She was denied entry and sent back same day. Is a CR1 or K1 visa process an option still? I would appreciate any advice or tips you can provide!-

2 RepliesI filed for my fianc e myself (no lawyers). Didn't get one RFE or any other problems. All I did was read the instructions, followed directions, researched the topic online. I want to say that I think most of the advice online is geared toward the worst scenarios or high red flag countries. I did a lot of things that seemed "risky" by others but had no problems. I treated this like feeling out any other government forms. I only gave what was necessary.
1. I only had 4 pictures for my petition at USCIS. A lot of people said you needed a ton of pictures. And pictures were the only proof of relationship I sent. I did state, however, that the reason I didn't have a lot of pictures was because I video recorded most of the time there.2. I didn't write some long love story for the petition on how we met. I think it was probably 4 sentences.
3. I filed 2 months after meeting in person for the 1st time.4. My second meeting was the day BEFORE the scheduled interview. So I didn't do a ton of meetings to boost chances.
5. I only added 3 pictures of the same night (in the same clothes) to the interview evidence6. I added only a screen shot of the 1st few messages a month for a year on Facebook
7. I added receipts of all the money transfers I sent. Many people here say that is bad
8. I added evidence of dowry being paid to the parents. Many people say that is bad, but I think that's only in countries where it's a law that dowry means marriage.
9. I went to chew the embassy out for confusion over the interview (they canceled our interview but rescheduled it the following week over some disorganization on their end. But I was under the impression that they were saying it was a mistake I did.) It's the American way LOL
But I will add that, which I assumed to be logically correct, that we were an "easy" case.
1. A poor country but not a red flag country or even a country were many people immigrant from.2. We both are never married and never had children
3. Same race (black)
4. 12 year age difference but 29 and 41.
I'm gonna pay it forward and stay on this site to help other people

1 RepliesHi, my son is waiting the interview appointment for his residence visa, he already received the notice that he should wait a notice within 60 days, all good.
BUT he had to go out of his country and he is now in Brazil, he has 40 days there and has to finish some studies here and he is planing to request a extension of his stay. BUT when he went to the Policia Federal to request it, the offered him the option to request a temporary residence, he initially said no because he is afraid it could interfere with his US residency visa process, they said that it wont interfere, but he and I are a bit skeptical about it.
Would initiate a temporary residence in Brazil affect in any way his almost finished process for USA Residence?
What are his intentions?
He need to stay there to finish those studies until December, of course, if he receives the notice that he has to go to his country for the interview and medical examinations, he will, but until that he needs to stay there then he comes to USA
Biometrics Appointment Documentation 9:54 pm yesterday

1 RepliesI recently received a notice for a biometrics appointment related to the removal of conditions on my green card. This isn't my first time at the Detroit field office, as I previously attended a biometrics session prior to obtaining my green card. Now, after submitting the request to remove the conditions, I've been scheduled for another appointment.
I'm reviewing all documents and seeing that they want me to bring my green card and any ASC notices I've received. There was an initial mix-up since I never got the first appointment notice by mail. It wasn't until I gained access to my online account through the notice of action that I discovered I had missed the initial ASC biometrics appointment.
My question is: When I attend the rescheduled appointment, do I need to bring all ASC notices, specifically including a printed copy of the first one that I didn't receive? Since I can now access it digitally, I can easily print it out, but I want to ensure it's required.
Thanks!
CR1 visa interview document question 8:11 pm yesterday

2 RepliesHello! My husband had his CR1 visa interview May 8. Apparently he gave the wrong year for a divorce I went through prior to our marriage. He provided a certified copy of that divorce decree, it was the actual copy I was given the date my divorce was finalized. It had an official stamp from the court on the last page. We received an email the next day stating that the document we provided was not an "original" document and to bring the original document when possible. After some frantic google searches, I returned to the court in which I was divorced and was given a "triple certified" copy with a cover sheet and two official seals. I sent this document and he received it today and returned to the Embassy to turn it in. My question is, the email itself just stated to bring the "original" copy of the decree. I am confused as to why the stamp would not be considered acceptable. So could the issue be that he accidentally gave the wrong date?? I am just trying to understand what the actual issue is, the lack of communication is frustrating.
Also, he was given a pink slip of paper with a specific date to return. They already took his passport. Is there any way to know if this is good or bad??
Thank you and good luck to all those in the same boat or still waiting!!
