Yes...as a Buddhist, I believe very strongly that the soul comes back to Earth many, many times. In different shapes and forms. Each "life" on Earth teaches us a new lesson so that we may be free enough of any attachment or issues to live in together peacefully in harmony when we finally reach Nirvana. (and no-I am not talking about Kurt Cobain  ) To live in Nirvana, one must be fully enlightened...

Rose

 and also recieve and pay any consequences from Karma - goor or bad and becasue coming back to earth in the next life is also a consequesnce from your past life Karma, until we are fully enlightment and the Karma circle come fully round and stop, then we will go to Nirvana..

sorry for my badly translation..

I'd like to add that into my answer too to be more specific. :P

Well, not exactly this earth, but I do believe in the bodily resurrection of the dead, and there will be a new heaven and a new earth.

No I don't believe in life after death....but I do believe in ghosts though, I just think there is a more scientific reason for them.

Yeap, as I catholic I do believe in an afterlife, a heaven, hell, purgatory, and everything that is written in the Bible. Saint Theresa had visions of hell and she said there were very few people there, only those that even when faced before the Lord, didn't repent. I once was told that in the purgatory, you feel in your own flesh everything you made other people feel, the good and the bad, over and over until you are ready to become a saint (enter heaven). Like living your own life from the other people's perspective. I try to remember that (although it's not always easy!!! )

I think Purgatory is very similar to the Buddhist idea of enlightenment. Reaching Nirvana is a state of consciousness that cannot be reached without learning or being enlightened.

I'm Catholic as well, and believe the same as JVKn'CVO. I think it is also interesting what others have said regarding Buddhist belief of afterlife. I lived in Asia for several years so I understand the Buddhist/Hindu concept of rebirth. To me, it seems like the same concept...we both go to a 'another world'...until we're enlightened. Catholics burn off their sins in a world we call Purgatory. Buddhist burn off their bad karma back on this same earth in this a new body. Either way, we all 'pay for our transgressions' before we're out out of the samsara (rebirth) loop and can reunite with God.

Although I agree the concept is very similar (learning through "karma"), there's something we must always remember: that us catholics believe mankind was created in God's image, so our soul cannot go into an animal for example :)
