Name one leader who's been more ineffective than the Dalai Lama.

Bush and Dalai Lama - both failures - they're perfect for each other.

Arijit! Long time no see...

Uh, given the situation, I'd say the Dalai Lama has been pretty effective as a political leader in exile, which is a different sort of an animal than a leader who has a country imo. And there are few spiritual leaders who match him for effectiveness.

He's maintained global relevance, has (with no apparent malice) been a thorn in the side of China for over 50 years, and is the glue that still binds the Tibetan people to this day. And all this while armed with little more than his own equanimity and sense of humor.

We should all leave such a legacy.

And don't get me started about GWB's legacy...

how do u prove a leader has been more ineffective than the Dalai Lama? what criteria does one use?

I believe the Dalai Lama is an effective spiritual leader by reaching at least one person - me.

i believe George Bush is the most ineffective political leader in the entire history of the United States, but i don't know how to prove that to anyone.

With all the pressure on China over their role in the situation in Darfur, Sudan and the Olympic corporate sponsors being pressured as well, it's no wonder they (China) are upset over this meeting. It's just one more reminder that the rest of the world doesn't have Communist censoring and that we do know, and many disapprove of, what is going on in the world, and China's role in much of it.

It is strange that we have such strong economic ties to communist country with such a notorious reputation of human rights violations. If this was some kind of social experiment in hopes to transform China into a democracy, it has failed miserably. What it has shown is that capitalism can exist within a totalitarian government.

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

And yet the BBC reported that the meeting between President Bush and the Dalai Lama would take place in the Residence and not in the Oval Office, so as not to offend the Chinese government too much. BFHD. GWB should show some balls and disregard Chinese "dissatisfaction".

China invaded Tibet in 1951 and now regards that sovereign country as a province of China. The Dalai Lama, according to Beijing, is akin to a terrorist, advocating "independence" for his homeland. Where is the outcry? Oh, politicos of all colours have "been heard" about the plight of Tibet, but nothing has come of it, and likely nothing will, because it's all bark and no bite. How's THAT for ineffective.

The Dalai Lama has, throughout his exile, stayed true to his beliefs. For that, he has my respect.

Well, while not in it's own interest, China would appear to be in a position to pull the plug on us. Gotta tread carefully, I suppose...
