Our journey is over -- my wife entered the US today with an IR1 visa at Washington Dulles Airport. Even though she said she was greatly annoyed by the inane and stupid questions of the immigration officer when she presented her papers to him, she managed to keep her cool. (Not easy for my wife -- she usually doesn't suffer fools gladly.) Otherwise the entry procedure went quickly and smoothly.

There was a slight snafu at the end of the journey when her medical records went AWOL for a while which meant she couldn't return home with me last Sunday and we had to rebook her flight for today (for an additional expense of over $700). But other than that, I realize that, compared to other stories I've read here on VJ, our journey went relatively smoothly. Moreover, my job takes me to Germany quite frequently and so I could visit my wife several times during the waiting period. I cannot imagine, however, what it must be like to be kept apart for months or even years. I consider this whole procedure a disgrace to the avowed principles of our country. There is no excuse for this inhuman immigration practice that keeps families apart for extended periods of time.

Anyway, enough venting. I am deliriously happy that my wife is back home, finally!

I'd like to thank everyone here on this board for the great advice that I've extracted from many thoughtful and useful contributions. Thank you!

Good luck to everyone and a speedy journey!
