So you can climb down off of your high horse. The poster decidedly stated that others were wrong for their lack of respect and beliefs other than those held by the poster. I strongly suggest that you read a little more before you try and correct someone and most importantly, get your facts straight.

I am all for being sensitive to ones needs and respectful of their beliefs. But this KC Chiefs fan just walked into a Broncos game and told everyone they were full of it but could they please understand her right to say so. That is just foolish. If you don't like golf, don't watch the golfing channel.

Thank you. That's what I was trying to point out with my "Odin loves you whether you believe it or not" statement. Telling people that it's true whether they believe it or not is very condescending, rude, and annoying.

Also, is it just me or are we getting a LOT of people lately who spout out the "VIOLATION OF TOS!!11" #######? Are we really such a bunch of wussies as a species that we have to tattle about everything, can't handle things on our own, and/or need rules for every aspect of our interaction with other humans?

Humans need to grow a damn backbone.

They make fun of a lot of things here sometimes. Christianity is a nice target for some. I don't like it, but I can't stop it. It would be interesting to see the reactions that would happen if it was a joke thread about Mohammad or Buddha instead.

Well as for Buddha you really can't joke about something you don't know well enough to joke about. Most people don't know anything about Buddha (with the exception of him being an overweigh monk). There are some good Hindu jokes though but most of them are only funny because there are so many gods in Hinduism that you can never really know them all :).

As for Mohammad, well... we know him well enough but you just don't joke about him for the reason that you get death threats. Death threats aren't much fun :(. I know even personally a few former Muslims or Finns who've insulted Mohammed who are death threatened, so it's a bad idea. I hope that in the future Islam would also become modernized enough not to produce such a large number of death threats, even the children of the Danish cartoonists where death threatened. I know, I know, most Muslims aren't like that but many enough are.

Of course the world is filled with good Jewish and Holocaust jokes but they are considered too dirty to be told. Besides (anyone who tells one is an anti-Semite according to the American standards so that's a big no-no. Even a larger no-no are jokes about blacks. I really used to love those jokes when I was young but after visiting the US multiple times and finding out that no-one laughs at them (unless blacks tell them themselves) I stopped telling them. Apparently you are considered a racist if you tell such jokes (in the US at least that is). Some gay jokes are also funny, actually most of them are, but you can't really tell those either since then you are a homophobe or a racist since gayness is clearly a race... err... anyway...

It's sad how politically correct you need to be in the US. It kind of eats most of the fun from the jokes you make, since people make jokes of one another precisely because people are different. And when you can't joke about differences, all you have left is toilet humor and predictable situation comics.

Christian jokes seem to be rather safe in comparison to all the rest (and even blond jokes are although blonds too are like kind of... err... a race...). Besides Christian jokes are so diverse, you have separate jokes about god, Christ, the Holy Spirit, angels, Protestants, Catholics, churches, cults, priests, the pope, the Madonna, nuns, monks and all the rest.

There are some atheist jokes too but they are rather boring, since it's hard to make fun of something that lacks a distinguishable culture, a set of beliefs or equal. Still, there are a few okay ones like: How many atheists does it take to change a light bulb? -None, they like to remain in the dark.

I do know about Buddha and what he taught but if I joked about him I'm sure I'd get someone who was offended or thought it was rude. My point is that people don't really like when their beliefs are made fun of, so it shouldn't be a surprise if Christians commented in this thread about not liking it, as I am sure Muslims would in a thread about Mohammad or Buddha followers would about jokes of Buddha. That's my point really. I wouldn't ban people from saying what they feel about a religion, but they should just expect they might get comments back too. It goes both ways. They shouldn't act surprised.

(BTW I definitely think jokes about black people, the holocaust, etc are wrong. Religion is a choice, being a certain nationality isn't.)

A man is taking a walk in Central park in New York. Suddenly he sees a little girl being attacked by a pit bull dog . He runs over and starts fighting with the dog. He succeeds in killing the dog and saving the girl's life. A policeman who was watching the scene walks over and says: "You are a hero, tomorrow you can read it in all the newspapers: "Brave New Yorker saves the life of little girl" The man says: - "But I am not a New Yorker!" "Oh ,then it will say in newspapers in the morning: 'Brave American saves life of little girl'" – the policeman answers. "But I am not an American!" – says the man. "Oh, what are you then? " The man says: - "I am a Saudi !" The next day the newspapers says: "Islamic extremist kills innocent American dog.

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

No my dear, I did not walk into the wrong ball game.

The title of the thread suggested a religious thread to me. I opened the door. I walked in. I looked around and felt that sensitivity

was lacking on this cultural diverse board with members of many different faith. I do NOT participate in anti Christian threads with an obvious

title, again this one I thought was a positive one.

If not here then where can tolerance be found ? This board is meant to support, inform and encourage.

I do not think that the intention for this board is to freely bash if one choses to. That is the reason for TOS.

Yes, of course I was offended as were many others. Capt. Ewok came and agreed with my suggestion to be more respectful. There is no point to keep rehashing this issue. I suggest to let it go and not stir it up again.

That is the desired flavor of this board. Respect. Tolerance.

End of story.

I am also a Christian and I don't like people making fun of Jesus or my beliefs either, but on a non-religious forum, you can't expect it to not happen. If people don't believe it, they don't hold the same feelings for it. I agree it'd be nice if ppl had respect for others who don't believe the same as they do, but really I don't find it surprising when people do make fun of things related to Jesus. They make fun of a lot of things here sometimes. Christianity is a nice target for some. I don't like it, but I can't stop it. It would be interesting to see the reactions that would happen if it was a joke thread about Mohammad or Buddha instead.

you know what the reaction would be: howls for your head, demands for a lifetime ban, heavy moderater/admin involvement, etc.

Are you sure about that? People seem to get away with snide and inaccurate asides about Muslims all the time on this board... get more wives called 'cook, clean, and laundry', cities would burn and heads would roll, because those Muslims are just so violent that even our messageboards aren't safe, that sort of thing. They're at least as innocuous as 'Jesus saves, rebound to Elijah.'

here's some more...

What's the best thing about Pagan friends? They worship the ground you walk on...

Did you hear about the dyslexic devil worshipper? He sold his soul to Santa!

Q: What do you get when you cross a Zen Buddhist and a Druid?

A: Someone who worships the tree that is not there.

Q: What do ya' call 13 Witches in a hot tub?

A: A Self-Cleaning Coven

Q: What kind of furniture does a Goddess worshipper prefer?

A: Wicker

What's the difference between New Age and Pagan? About $500.00 a weekend.

Heck is a place for people who don't believe in Gosh.

Q: What do you call a dating club for unattached Wiccans?

A: Craft singles!

Did you hear that Kraft was so offended by that last joke that they moved their macaroni plants to Israel? Yeah, now they're called Cheeses of Nazareth!

Why did the Zen Buddhist get reincarnated as a Pizza Supreme? He wanted to be one with everything.

I just thought that this was a Jesus joke thread, which was created and read by people who, well, liked Jesus jokes. It sounds harmless to me.

Exactly. It was a Jesus JOKE thread. You'd have to have a persecution complex or just be a whiny git to report this topic...

It may have been a "joke thread" but she didn't report the "joke". She reported the pictures. I wouldn't call that whiny since they were clearly in violation of TOS.

If indeed this is a 'Jesus Joke ' thread, as you say, then does that somehow justify your name calling and sloppy finger pointing?

Hey there Nagi. How's it goin'?

Sorry, I just have to get in on this one. Too much like living in the South! Thump, thump thump... :bonk:

It is a useless thread. No question. But if one is so incensed by what is written here... CHANGE THE FLIPPING CHANNEL!!!

I am not into knitting, therefore I avoid threads about knitting. I should be shot dead for interfering on a knitting thread and telling them that I don't agree with them about knitting because I don't like it.

If you were to start a thread on the almighty salvation at hand through your belief in Jesus Christ, I doubt too many of the posters here would give it a second thought. But as soon as you start telling people that they are wrong because their beliefs don't coincide with yours, brother, you are asking for a heap of trouble.

None of this is directed at you Nagi. I just hijacked your post. Sorry but thanks for the ride. I'll type to ya later. :jest:

What thread were you reading? It must not have been this one because no one said anyone's beliefs were wrong. In fact, that was discussed and agreed upon a few posts back. She didn't say "you people are bad, you must stop posting now!" She only asked for a little respect and sensitivity...is that too hard to do? How about you actually read before you hijack the next thread.

The first time it was forced upon us that the poster was right where others were wrong was when she(?) said:

"I would appreciate a mature sensitivity to other members and their religious belief, I am offended by the blasphemy in this thread. It is entirely possible to believe what you want to believe without being insulting.

Jesus is my Lord and Saviour and these negative comments are provocative and uncalled for. Please be respectful and exercise some sensitivity on this cultural and religious diverse board."

And it happened again when the poster claimed:

"If you prefer being obnoxious and disrespectful then go ahead. No, I do not expect you to fear retribution. God loves you whether you believe it or not. And I have no problem with you personally, just asking you to exercise good common sense and sensitivity out of respect for others. However I will let your words stand out by themselves and not get baited into any further debate with you. Give enough rope to someone and they will hang themselves. Policy of this board I believe.

Have a nice day."

LOL, wow, someone sure got upset. Mission accomplished. I was only responding to another person who needed to climb down off of their own high horse. FACT-she wasn't saying anyone was wrong, just requesting to tone it down. Yes, she PERSONALLY thought it was wrong, but she never said YOU PEOPLE ARE WRONG. How is "God loves you whether you believe it or not" saying "you are wrong for posting in here?

Thank you. That's what I was trying to point out with my "Odin loves you whether you believe it or not" statement. Telling people that it's true whether they believe it or not is very condescending, rude, and annoying.

Yes, we are getting a lot of the TOS stuff because more and more around here people think they are kids being bullies on a playground instead of civilized adults having a discussion. I think our human backbones are just fine...each person is standing up for what they think, even if it does include reporting nonsense.

I did not mean to be condescending, rude or annoying. It is not in my nature to do offend. I just wanted to get the point across that MY God loves you when you ( mockingly) said should you ' fear retribution.'.........it was strictly in response to that. Just letting you know that I am a Christian whose God does not sit on the throne with a 2 by 4, that's all.

About you questioning if we have become a bunch of wussies in interacting with others.........well no, not wussies. But there are different

personalities out there who interact differently from your very blunt and may I say unkind style.

I have noticed a lot of newbies poking their heads in the door and ending up as fodder for entertainment.

I believe that is not the purpose of this particular board.

Guys play nice. Also this is the last warning to stop any personal attacks and to respect each other more. We are all diverse in our beliefs. We should respect each other for that as well as remember that not everyone will agree with our own beliefs and that we should not try to force those beliefs on others.

Wow, I need to log on here more often.

As the OP, I'd like to explain something.

I am a stand-up comic. As a comic, I feel that it is my duty to make fun of, well, everything. I do this because I consider humor a very important part of life and without a little humor in it, life is not worth living.

That said, I have also stated that I am a Pagan. I come from a background of having been raised Catholic and having rejected it from a very young age. I was barely in my double-digits before I realized it wasn't for me. I've done a lot of searching and investigating of other religions and religious beliefs in general and I've come to one realization, and it's symbolized by the medallion I wear. The pendant in question has a pentagram as it's main shape, and surrounding the pentagram there is a Cross, a Star of David, a Yin-Yang symbol, a Triskelion, and an OM symbol.

The realization I've come to is that ALL religions and ALL life paths are equally valid for whomever chooses them. I respect ALL religions (even Flying Spaghetti Monsterism!) and respect everyone's right to their path in life. Whatever you choose is your choice and your way. It is not for me to change that unless you come to me seeking change. I will respect your choice.

However, I also reserve the right to make jokes about it. And when I posted this, I did not expect the semi-war that resulted. I'll not apologize because I've done nothing wrong, but please realize that no offense was ever intended. Just a simple, light-hearted joke, intended to possibly brighten a few days because I myself was having a day that needed brightening. That's all.

I just have to say that the reason that requests like this do not work is that everyone thinks that you're talking about the "other side", i.e. those that think this thread is mocking Christians think that you're telling the "mockers" to cool it, and the "mockers" think that you're telling the offended Christians that they must respect freedom of speech.
