I'm in the process of filing the K-1 for my fiance over in Jamaica and needed a little advice from those of you who have already "gone" down this road with the VSC.

My fiance and I only met this summer and spent 10 days together in July. I have two more trips planned for Sept and Nov and was wondering should I wait to send in the I-129 until after those trips or can I send it in now? I'm wondering is it too soon - after only being together a few months - or does it really matter? We have pictures, cell phone receipts, letters, boarding passes, etc. but was wondering would more trips/ time together give our case more substance.

Any advice from you guys who've experienced the process would be helpful! I'm new to the site as you probably figured out by now LOL and was just curious what you guys thought. thanks!:unsure:

I would send it now if you're ready. Your additional visits will help prove a bona fide ongoing relationship at interview. At the petition stage, you only need to prove you met in person within the two years preceding your filing date. USCIS doesn't evaluate bona fides for K1 petitions. That is left to the Consular officer. Three visits in four months is pretty good evidence. Of course you'll need evidence of communication too.

Its hard to say for sure. But by the time you actually get to the interview stage, you may already have the next two trips under your belt. So you could possibly send it now and be OK. Its up to you. But I personally wouldn't get married with such a short relationship.

I agree. I just figured I could atleast file early on since the entire process takes about a year to unfold and I knew we had these other things planned over the next few months. I've heard mixed reviews about the whole filing part and just figured I would be getting a headstart by sending the main info they needed now. I heard that multiple visits/ communication etc. can certainly help by the interview stage but for the I 129 you need to just prove evidence of the relationship and the "meeting" in the last two years requirement. Other than that, you're right...more time gives us more time to get to know each other and more Proof! thanks! :hehe:

I would definitely send your application in now and then you can use the evidence of the other trips at your interview.

You could easily be finished with the process much sooner than a year, especially through Vermont.

Good luck.

Completing the affidavit of support at this point is just "practice". It isn't needed until asked for at the interview. At that point, the affidavit and supporting documents should be as fresh as practical. In your case, the 2007 tax return will probably be needed.

You don't seem to mind but it irks me that people think they need to give motherly relationship advice. This is a visa support group. Unless a member asks for relationship advice, it's out of line, IMO.

Really. Don't send an affidavit of support with your petition. It will go in the trash. This is a situation where more ends up being less. Send what is needed with the petition at petition time and what is needed for the interview in time for the interview.

I know thats right. No one can tell you when marriage is a good thing for you. Sure a longer relationship helps to get to know the person better but there are some people who been with their boyfriend or husband for years and still didn't know that person. For example...SNAP. I'm sure that the people on the show thought they knew their SO and would never think that their SO would kill them.

You might want to ask this question of others going through your consulate. While USCIS doesn't care if your marriage is a good idea, just that it's not for immigration benefit (i.e., they're not going to deny you because they think it's bad to get married after a short courtship), at some consulates, knowing each other for a short amount of time before filing raises suspicions that the marriage is only for immigration benefit.

That's not a reason not to file now if you're ready to be together, but people might have suggestions on how to prepare your proof of relationship for the interview.
