Application type: N-400 (paper filing)

Delivered to USCIS lockbox: January 28 (Arizona lockbox – confirmed by USPS tracking)

Payment: not charged yet

Receipt notice: not received yet

I filed by mail (not online), so I understand receipts usually take longer, but I’m starting to get a bit anxious because I have an upcoming address change. I’m planning to move very soon (within the next week or so), and I do not have a receipt number yet.

My myUSCIS account is new and currently empty, since I don’t have a receipt number to add the case, so I can’t update my address online at the moment. The address was only listed on the paper application itself.

• How long did it take for you to receive the receipt notice after a paper filing?

• If you moved before receiving the receipt, how did you handle the address change?

• Did USPS mail forwarding help with USCIS notices, or did you still need to wait for the receipt and then update the address?

I’m checking my mail daily and just trying to understand the best way to handle a move before the receipt arrives, without causing delays or issues.

Any experiences or advice would be really appreciated. Thank you, and best of luck to all January filers!

Did you file with fee reduction or waiver request?

Not yet. They're both online but I haven't gotten anything in the mail physically.

Weird.  Our receipt notice is not online nor did we get it by mail.  I guess we don't really need it though.

Received my biometrics appointment today, scheduled for February 11th.

Attended my biometrics appointment today, in and out in 15 minutes. Got two notices on completion Case Is Still Being Processed By USCIS (one on N-400 and one on I-751), now the wait begins.

Hopefully not long.  The end is in sight!

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

My wife had biometrics.  Shortly after, she got an email "We have taken an action on your case" and when she logged into myUSCIS, she saw the status changed to "Case Is Still Being Processed By USCIS."  Then, an hour and 15 minutes later, she got another email saying "We have taken an action on your case" but this time, no change on myUSCIS.  Does everyone get two "We have taken an action on your case" emails?

Does she have a pending I-751 and N-400?

She will get an update for each case.

After trying to walk-in ahead of the scheduled Biometrics appointment and getting turned away, we went on our scheduled date.

https://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/835495-after-n-400-biometrics-is-scheduled-can-we-walk-in-in-advance-like-the-i-485-biometrics/#findComment-11097640

Unlike our I-485 Biometrics where we were in and out in less than 15 minutes, our N-400/I-751 Biometrics took about 45 minutes, most of the time was spent waiting in the sitting area.

https://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/786775-july-2022-aos-filers/page/4/#findComment-10722883

The actual Biometrics photo-taking and fingerprinting took less than a few minutes.

When we showed up early, there was a line out the door, and many were in the sitting area already. Although everyone was calm and the USCIS agents were helpful and cheerful, there was a sense of urgency or tension in the air. Maybe the stories of the ICE showing up to interviews or to other USCIS sites had everyone on alert since the USCIS Application Support Center sits in an immigrant-heavy area of Atlanta?

After exiting, we saw the 2 updates: one for N-400 and one for I-751. Both are updated to "Case Is Still Being Processed By USCIS". The I-751 status changed from "Case Is Being Actively Reviewed By USCIS" to "Case Is Still Being Processed By USCIS".
