Hi there! 👋🏼 It’s been a long time since my last post. I got my citizenship since last yr and just last week was when I tried to apply for my blue passport. However, I just realized today while I am signing my toddler’s tuition fee payment for next month that I forgot to sign the personal check payment to the U.S Department of State 🥲 and on top of that, I checked the copy of my cert. of naturalization, then I noticed that I didn’t sign it either 😩

what can I do at this point? How can I make it better? I am so anxious right now and couldn’t believe how a single mistake can lead to this.

This is pretty interesting.  If my memory serves, the NC is signed at the oath ceremony during the check-in process, and the USCIS clerks running the oath are pretty good at making sure everyone signs.  It is likely the passport application may be rejected for either or both missing signatures, and hopefully they tell you why.  If rejected for the missing signatures on the NC, you may need to file an N565.

Let us know how everything goes.

Good Luck!

Nothing was checked when I got mine. All I was told is to sign it and the files handed it out left it at that

At my oath ceremony, we were told to sign it at home on good even surface, because signing at USCIS may result in bad signature or damage to certificate.

Interesting how things are run differently at different field offices.  In Detroit, certificates are signed at check-in,

Wife's group were given unsigned NC.  Wife signed at home a few days later before we went to apply for her Passport.

Interesting.  I guess the NC is treated much like a PP.  I think I was reminded six or more times to make sure my PP was signed before my flight on a recent overseas trip.

As to the OP’s situation, if the DoS returns the application, it appears they can simply sign the NC when it is returned instead of needing to file an N565.

Yes, different procedures at different location. I find it fascinating.

We were given our certs at check in to inspect and sign. They took them back and "presented" them to us after taking the oath.
