2-Year Wait for IR-1 Visa Interview in Sierra Leone: Seeking Advice and Insights

Hi everyone,

I'm reaching out for advice and support regarding my wife's IR-1 visa application. According to the National Visa Center (NVC), all documents were submitted promptly and accurately, but it's been over 2 years since then, and we still haven't received a call for an interview.

Case Details:

Visa Type: IR-1 (Immediate Relative) visa
Priority Date: November 7, 2022
Current Status: Waiting for interview scheduling at the U.S. Embassy in Freetown
Foreign State of Chargeability: Liberia
Interview Location: Freetown

I'm concerned about the delay and wondering if anyone else has experienced similar issues. What could be causing the delay in scheduling an interview? Are there any known issues with the U.S. embassy in Sierra Leone that might be contributing to the delay?

I'd appreciate any insights, advice, or shared experiences that might help me navigate this challenging situation.

Thank you in advance for your help and support!

When exactly was she DQ’ed? Has she been receiving the standard ‘60 day letter’ every couple of months since then?

And just to confirm, you’re a US citizen?

Need to answer above "are you USC or LPR"?

Have you emailed or send letter to NVC to keep the case open since DQ?

Which is it ?  Sierra Leone or Liberia?

If USC, spouse is exempt from ban on Sierra Leone (IR 1_

(v)     immediate family immigrant visas (IR-1/CR-1, IR-2/CR-2, IR-5) with clear and convincing evidence of identity and family relationship (e.g., DNA)

IF LPR, not (F2a visa)

And Liberia is set to be added to the new 36 added country list

I'm from Liberia, but my wife's case has been transferred to Sierra Leone, where it's currently being handled. I'm wondering what steps I can take to potentially transfer her case back to Liberia. Are there any legal avenues or procedures I should be aware of? I'd appreciate guidance on navigating this complex situation.

1. Are you USC or LPR?: I am a U.S. Citizen (USC).
2. Have you emailed or sent a letter to NVC to keep the case open since DQ?: No, I haven't contacted NVC yet regarding this matter.
3. Which is it? Sierra Leone or Liberia?: My wife's case is currently in Sierra Leone, but it was initially in Liberia.

Given my status as a USC, I understand that my spouse might be exempt from certain restrictions. I'd like to know more about the next steps and required documentation, such as evidence of our relationship (e.g., DNA testing).

What is your wife's citizenship?  Where does she actually live now?  Why are you asking about DNA testing?

Login to the CEAC site you were emailed a link to by NVC.  That's where you learn about next steps and what is required.

Freetown is currently scheduling interviews for visa applicants that were DQ’d in January 2024.

If your PD is November 2024, your DQ date couldn’t be much earlier than January or February 2024.

What was the date you were DQ’d? If it’s January 2024 or later, you’re within normal processing times.
