Hello All,

Another question of inquiry. When my wife and I worked with our Attorney and we went through the process of filling out the forms, one element we selected was to have her Social Security Number issued in line with the application process. This is in lieu of making it another separate step in the process. Her EAD card was received at the attorney's office, so that's a great thing!! We were told that the SSN Card would follow in a couple weeks. It's closing out on a couple weeks, and they still haven't received it. While this is not a major pressing issue as she'll only need to have it, along with the EAD card once she she secures a job, I am just trying to avoid multiple trips to the attorney's office since it seems both items are destined to land there.

My question is...Does anyone have a time frame for when most SSN Cards get mailed out, and is there any benefit for signing up for the SSA government site to confirm it was issued or if she's even in their system yet?

We'll make the trip to the field office if necessary, but if we don't have to, that's acceptable as well. :)

Thanks for any information you may have on my inquiry.

We're the Rock to Each Other's Roll!!

you have better chances of getting a social security card by going into the office

its the government, they don't always do a good job of communicating with each other lol

This program, the Enumeration Beyond Entry (EBE) program was suspended in early 2025. This program previously allowed for automatic issuance of Social Security numbers to certain immigrants with approved work permits or pending adjustment of status applications. As a result of the suspension, immigrants now need to apply for their SSNs in person at a local Social Security Administration (SSA) office.

That's exactly what I found myself when going through naturalization. Wasn't sure if it affects AOS or not. It seems like SSA visit is unavoidable.

Happened to a friend of mine he needed it so I told him to go to the SS office.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Fair point...LOL!! We've even got mixed answers from the attorney's office, and the two individuals sit an office door away from each other.  🤣

My mother in law entered the United States on an IR-5 on October 30th, 2023.

Her SSN card was dated November 1st, 2023 and was delivered to our home on November 9th, 2023.

We requested her card to be sent after entry.

I think we were extremely lucky.

Regards,

Vicky's Mom

The EBE was working up until early March 2025 when the system appears to have been suspended. Jaycel had her EAD approved on 1/8/2025 and received her updated SS Card in her married name on 1/15/2025, 3 days before the actual EAD Card arrived

My Employment Authorization Document arrived on April 26th. As my social security card had not arrived by yesterday I went along to the local SSA office. The woman I spoke to explained cards were no longer being issued automatically. So I showed her my EAD, passport and birth certificate. She submitted a request for permission for SSA to issue a social security card. Apparently this usually happens within two to four weeks unless fraud is suspected.

Apologies Lee, I already thought you had an SSN already from our conversations . I got told at my local SSA office that it takes 2-4 weeks as well. Mine took about 3 weeks to arrive.
