How is interview scheduled? When to file Ds-160? (Merged threads)

Hello,

I have a question because I keep seeing different types of information that either you schedule the interview in the embassy for K1 visa or that NVC does it themselves, so I am little bit confused what is truth and what is not.

Also, how long did it take for your case to be transferred to NVC after USCIS approval? And also how long did it take for the case to be transferred from NVC to the embassy/consulate?

Thank you

NVC does not schedule K-1 interviews.  What consulate will conduct the interview?

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Since consulate processes differ from country to country, I have moved this discussion to the Europe & Eurasia regional forum.

Hello,

Could someone explain how the interview is scheduled? Can you select the date yourself or does NVC or US Consulate/Embassy schedule it themselves?

When you should file or complete DS-160? Our case is in transit based on the recent email from NVC we have received our case number and we should visit the travel.state.gov website to see about the further steps for K1. Should you do the DS-160 form when the case status is ready?

most embassies will have you schedule the interview yourself. it is entirely dependent on the embassy.

same goes for the DS-160. some embassies want you to wait until you have received notice from them, usually called packet 3. This packet explains all of the next steps of the process.

but technically the DS-160 can be submitted at any point, as the submitted DS-160 is valid for 1 year.

which embassy are you going through?

you should fill out your timeline

I think you have been on this website long enough to know that if you want accurate answers, you need to specify the country involved, or, much simpler, just fill out your timeline.  Without specifying the country, you will get answers that may be accurate for other countries, but completely wrong for you.

Hello,
I have a question regarding the DS-160 online form. The form has a question regarding the "intended day of arrival". Is it okay if I put any date I assume it will be the date when I will fly to USA and is it okay that I arrive earlier or later than the date specified in the form?

Thank you

Yes it's fine, but it's just easier to put the earlier date if you think there is possibility of travelling then. You won't get penalized for it.

Also, there is a question in DS-160 question about how the tickets to the US will be obtained if it is by myself, sponsored by my fiance and etc. So if the petitioner sponsors you since we file I-134, shouldn't it be the sponsor (petitioner) or it doesn't matter you can mark "SELF". Do you need to provide some sort of documentation regarding this question in DS-160 for the interview?

Question regarding ds160. I read that there is a 30 day time limit to file DS160. Basically the DS160 has to be submitted in 30 days after the application. Can someone confirm this? Because in the top right corner it says that it expires today even though I started last week?

I started the form last Sunday.

30 days after your most recent login is the maximum time your unsubmitted application will be saved.  There is no requirement to submit it within 30 days.  It's just letting you know that if you start an application, then return 31 days later, it might be gone.  Each time you login, the 30 days start over.

I don't remember seeing the expiration date you mentioned.  Perhaps it means your current session will expire on the date listed.

Thank you for your answer. I also wanted to double-check a few questions because I read other forums in Visajourney but everyone gave different answers for it.

For the question do you have any immediate relatives, not including parents in the US, shall I put my fiancee as my relative? (Yes, I know it says on the right-hand side that "fiance", but some people in this forum said it should be "no", which is a bit confusing what is the right answer for this).

For the question about the person/entity paying for your trip, shall I put SELF or US Petitioner on a K1 visa? (Since the petitioner files the I134 form and sponsors beneficiary, should it be the US petitioner then?)
For the question have you attended any educational institutions at the secondary level or above? Do you list all your previous education you attended in descending order? Or only the most recent one where you graduated? (Again this question got answered differently by many people)
