Joining the EU may have had some credibility if there had been a vote on it.

In the land of the blind the one eyed man is king.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Tories.

Labour will be kicked to the curb and first past the post will limit Reform’s seats, assuming they don’t lose their momentum in the meantime.

So a default, unpopular Tory govt looms. Only question is whether they have to be propped up in a coalition.

Yeah maybe? But at a certain point you are where you are. It is not as if leaving has righted the perceived wrongs of joining, and it is hard to argue leaving has had any real benefits. And, for my part, I believe that the young people of the UK, in particular, should never forgive Farage et al for successfully campaigning for (not to mention lying about) the removal of rights that they were born with.

But it was also nine years ago and I probably need to just get over it. Be well.

Of course it works both way, a lot more people were born before the UK joined and had their rights compromised.

Anyway for what ot is worth I thought we should have stayed in and fought to reform it, certainly all the expansions should have been blocked.

We are where we are.

Man denies raping girl, 12, in Nuneaton in case that prompted anti-asylum protests
Ahmad Mulakhil and co-defendant Mohammad Kabir, who is accused of strangling girl, to face trial in January

I forgot about this, went BBC were covering Farage speech, they disapprove, the next item was this, I seriously doubt the Producer intended it, but was quite amusing.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

This sounds typical of other stories.  Don't know if they've passed the point of no return.

Mike Benz On The UK:  This Is A Tyrannical Hellhole State Trying To Export Their Censorship Here

MIKE BENZ:  Well, this story is so insane, it may actually be a kind of tipping point in the free speech fight in Europe.  Graham Linehan is an award-winning comedy writer.  He wrote Father Ted and a bunch of other sitcom series.

He's a pretty famous guy.  He took a trip to Arizona from the UK and he tweeted about three comedic tweets on X about transgender and gender issues.  And when he returned to Heathrow Airport in London, he was met by five armed police officers who immediately took him effectively off the tarmac into state custody.  [...]

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

Well this is awkward

Epping asylum hotel resident found guilty of sexual assault
Hadush Gerberslasie Kebatu found guilty of two counts of sexual assault, against 14-year-old girl and a woman

“This must never be allowed to happen again. Every illegal migrant should be detained immediately and swiftly deported. Anything less leaves vulnerable people at risk, betrays public trust, and sends entirely the wrong message about how seriously Britain takes border security.”

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

i'm wondering if the guardian was hacked

"Kebatu told the court he had worked as a teacher in Ethiopia."

i find that difficult to believe.

Angela Rayner resigns over stamp duty row
Rayner’s departure is deeply damaging to prime minister who had initially stood by her

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2025/sep/05/angela-rayner-stands-down-over-stamp-duty-row

She is still Deputy Leader of the Labour Party, so assuming she resigns from that there needs to be an election.

Tricky for Starmer, keep your friends close and your enemies closer.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
