Somewhere on my bucket list is the idea of driving around the entire perimeter of Maine, but people have told me that this isn't possible on the western side.  Unless there are impassable mountains or nothing but potato farms with no need for roads, I'm stumped as to why.

Because on the Western side, there are no roads, spaces for roads, or even things like trails and whatnot.

 

There are trees. And undergrowth. And Meese. And Bears.

2.  Boring to go back same direction.  Want to see "all" of Maine if going in the first place.  If not possible, then drive back down central parts.

 

*I wonder how long that would take without stopping.

Seems really rustic.  Why hasn't somebody developed the state by now?

 

Edited to add:  Just looked at a map.  A bunch of "private roads" out there.  Who owns them?  What permission is necessary to drive on them?

And it looks like a couple of towns in Maine are accessible only from N.H.  Somebody needs to do something about Maine.

Got me to thinking about driving the perimeter of Texas.  

Then I realized I have a short attention span and if it takes more than a day I'll just skip it.
