Guys, my wife is coming over through the POE at Boston Airport.  The layover is 3 hours long, will it be enough time to go through immigration with her CR1 paperwork? She will be arriving at 6 pm.  I want to make sure before booking her flight.

Same terminal or ? Boston is not really huge but still need to take shuttle depend on the terminal. So that’s the only concern especially if she bring lotsa bags. I will probably just book longer layover or if it’s late enough of the flight, book her airport hotel. Flying since 2022 always stressing me out due to delay cancelation etc

I'm unsure about the same terminal but need to take the shuttle? then I'll find another POE. Thanks!

It should be ok, but in my experience that is the busiest time at Logan. It's taken me 1.5-2hrs to get through immigration at that time of night before, seems to be when there are less staff but also lots of other international flights arriving. But then I've also had times where I've been through immigration in 15 mins, so it really depends.

Will she need to get her luggage too or will that be loaded on to the next flight for her?

Thank! Good thing I asked before booking. My wife won't know what to do with the shuttle or how to get to the next gate.  I'll find something easier for her.

Most international airports will be similar though. Where's she coming from?

Coming from Japan she will need to re-check her baggage again just like most USA airports after immigration.

I'd imagine that's going to limit her options to bigger airports, which may mean she has to do a shuttle/terminal transfer at any of them anyway. If it helps, she can just walk between terminals at Boston, she doesn't need to get the shuttle, they're all no more than about 20 mins walk from each other.

I'll just request a wheelchair for her. :)

Ah, if she has mobility issues, then you can ask for assistance, they're very good (use them for my parents). I'd definitely allow more time though in that case.

Good luck.

Most POE will require moving from different terminals by shuttles or train anyway especially if it’s international + domestic. I’m very conservative when I fly nowdays, like i said earlier, add more times probably 4 hours. It’s fine to have longer layover but safer. She can just chill out if she has more times.

Three hours is a risk.  It's a "legal" connection but if her incoming flight is delayed, she could easily miss her incoming flight.  Depending on your confidence in her abilities, and whether there is a later flight to her destination for the same day, you might want a longer layover.  All US (really all major worldwide) international airports would require transfer from the arriving international terminal to a domestic terminal.

What's ideal is a 4 plus hour layover, in my experience, PLUS somebody to meet her and escort her to her next check-in.  What I did for my Chinese wife and her daughter years ago, was to just meet them myself at their POE, and drive them home.  You could also fly to the POE and escort her the rest of the way.

Faking the need for a wheelchair, is pretty sketchy.

If she doesn't need a wheelchair then please don't take that service away from somebody who may actually need it - and she'll still have to queue for immigration anyway, so not sure what the point would be.
