Hi all,

My parents had their immigrant interview at the US embassy in Accra on November 29, my Dad was approved and his visa was issued.  For my mom, she was told the embassy is yet to receive her medicals from Akai house clinic. Her passport was collected and they said they will follow it up with Akai house clinic.

We proactively contacted Akai house clinic and they confirmed sending over my mom's medicals but unable to tell when it was sent.

Case status was first updated on 11/30, then  12/4 and finally today 12/14. It shows it's under going administrative processing.

Has anyone experienced this before?  How long did it take to resolve it.

AP is normal. Since they kept her passport, that's a good sign. Don't worry yourself too much.

I’m guessing you have the passport by now.
How long did your parents wait for their interview after DQ ? My parents in law are in the same situation atm.

Ghana’s a couple of years from DQ to IL I believe. But you can search the forum for timelines and relevant threads. This one may be a good place to start -

My mom's immigrant visa was issued today 12/22. She will pick up her passport on 12/29. Let me the share the petition experience, hopefully it helps someone.

I filed for both parents in June 2021.

USCIS approved both petitions and approval notices dated March 2023 were sent to me.

Received notification from NVC in March 2023 to complete form DS-260 as well as upload all supporting documents through the online portal.

My parents don't have birth certificates, they used a  Sworn Affidavit(SA). The same NVC officer who reviewed the supporting documents approved the SA and marriage certificate for my Mom but strangely rejected same for my Dad. I had to write a note to them via the online portal, drawing their attention to their own guidelines regarding the rejected documents before they were approved.

NVC approved all docs for my Mom in April 2023 and for my Dad July 2023. NVC also informed me that were working with the US Embassy in Accra for an interview date.

Friday September 22, 2023 at 8.17pm central time - I requested  for an update via "Ask NVC - Inquiry Form" and on Tuesday September 26 at 7am central time, NVC responded with the scheduled date for the interview.

Interview was on 11/29, Dad's visa was approved & issued but my Mom's was placed on administrative processing because they were yet to receive the medicals she completed on 10/12/23.

I sent an email to Akai House Clinic and they confirmed sending the medical to the Embassy, they also added that the turnaround time is 10 days after the exam so I believe my Mom's medicals got to the Embassy the week of 10/22/23 but someone just didn't do their job by updating my Mom's records.

I asked the US Embassy in Accra via https://shorturl.at/dkoM2  on Wednesday 12/21 to confirm receipt of the medicals and also provide an update.

They responded the next day acknowledging receipt.

Visa was approved & issued today 12/22.

My parents will be leaving in March 2024(last week preferably)

They will fly United from Accra to Chicago via Dulles airport

Cheers!

Copied from email from NVC:

If your visa petition is currently processing at the National Visa Center, do not let more than one year pass without contacting NVC. If a period of one year passes from the last date of contact (by telephone, mail, or e-mail) with NVC, all submitted fees and documents expire. If this occurs, the fees must be paid again and documents must be resubmitted in order to continue the immigration process.

I prepared my parents for the interview using random online questions I put together. Same questions were asked at the interview. Parents were interviewed together, most questions were directed at my Dad.

Dad's Questions:

  1. Introduce yourself
  2. How did your son go to America and the year
  3. Where does your son work
  4. Where does your son live
  5. Tell me about his family(spouse name, kids and their ages)

Mom's Question:

  1. Introduce yourself
  2. Mom dropped her middle name via a sworn document in 2018, they asked if her current name (first & last name) is what she's always used after the change.

Note: At the minimum, your mom should know the following:

  1. How you went to the US as well the the year.
  2. Where you live in the states
  3. Where you work
  4. Your family life ( if married, spouse name. If you have kids, she should know their names and ages)

I went online and put together questions which I went through with them via zoom and regular calls for two months.

Evidence of relationship

  1. We submitted receipts of monthly remittances to both parents for the past two years
  2. Pictures taken in 2019 and pictures when I was 6 and 15 years.

Hi @nene kwaku please did you request for expedite for your Parents case? Seeing that their DQ was April and July 2023. Per the group I joined in Facebook Ghana embassy is currently serving December 2022 DQs.

What is the name of the group? Can you provide a link?

We were DQ'd in January 2024 so it's certainly upsetting if the embassy is still an entire year behind.
