Required to move before Green Card received?

Hello, If being required to move residence prior to receiving GC, will the USPS forward GC's to new address? Or does USCIS put a "Do Not Forward" message on GC mailing?

they (USPS)cant forward the GC even when u have the mail forward option. according to them, it's illegal to forward government ID ( i experienced this issue back in 2020). receipt etc is fine, but not the actual GC or EAD.  i tried to stop the shipment back to USCIS, but USPS wont budge

 

perhaps u can request USPS to "hold" ur package and u picking it up later.

You would have to file the AR-11 form to inform USCIS about the change of address. You should also call them afterwards to confirm they have the correct new address. Generally, changing of the mailing address is risky as USCIS or USPS often doesn't properly register it and the mail keeps coming to the old one.

In addition, you should absolutely try to notify the next occupants of your current residence to be alert in case correspondence from USCIS arrives, and be sure that they have your new address.  Per above, simply scratching out your address and writing your new one on the envelope will probably NOT work, so they'd have to put it in an entirely new mailer (9" x 12" flat, to hold the envelope) and send it to you "fresh."
