get behind one common sense new gun law

Common Sense Gun Laws is a term bandied about freely by those in  favor and those against guns.

The reality til now has been lots of talk and little bipartisan action, since most gun deaths occur in a handful ( 100 or so ) populated cities /poor neighborhoods ..there is little support from states unaffected by big numbers.

I know one thing, even though mass shootings have only averaged around 100 deaths a year, they are messing with my psyche…and will profoundly impact our children.

One of the great things about our Constitution is the fact that it has and can change..

I thought there was a Bi Partisan Law that went through Congress last year.

There is a process to change the Constitution absolutely, but perhaps the focus should be on the 100 or so locations that have an issue, seems odd to change the Constitution for a localized issue. Much quicker and more logical to focus on that.

Why does it have to be a bi-partisan action?  The Democrats had control of both Houses for two years and there were mass shootings during that period and they did little to nothing.  It is true there are a lot of problems in big cities due to a lot of regressive policies which is driving a lot of folks that may never considered purchasing a firearm to go and purchase one for self protection.  Personally I don’t blame them as we certainly cannot rely on any government body or agency to protect us.

Here is an inside look into creating that new gun customer base..

The old responsible industry prohibitions were gone. Everywhere I looked, I saw advertisements that played on the new fear-based tactical culture

Ahh, so rising crime rates, cities turned into war zones and the defunding of the police is just a myth .

Interesting this places the blame on the gun industry and marketing of scary guns or the undefined term "assault weapons".  Aren't most shootings committed by handguns?  Should all guns be banned?  Should there be confiscation?  Should the 2nd Amendment be eliminated (what others would the government like to eliminate)?  Is the marketing the cause or the result of regressive policies in the cities you referenced above?

They're run by one-party rule ("D").

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Find me a country that fits in the US mold, a wealthy, multi cultural nation that shares a wide open border with a neighbor who facilitates illegal immigration on a massive scale. Also they need to have an executive branch who has no interest in securing that border and a bureaucracy that is intentionally apathetic. Find me that country and let's make an apples to apples comparison.

Add to that a huge mental health problem, especially in younger people, and over medication of same, all to the benefit of big pharma.

I favor a Wall for border security and even liked the idea of coming up with a prison work program for non violent offenders to get it done. ..

perhaps incorporating a bit of treatment modeled on Shalom House in Australia. ..whose motto is Change Your Life or ####### Off

But as we all know , the Wall build was just a bit of a con

If you are going to have the gates wide open then not sure I see the point of a wall.
