omg ... this looks like one of my co-workers from VA ... and his twin (an engineer) that I met at a meeting at the REPLAN refinery in S. Paulo Br.

that was so strange ... the gentleman in Br. could have been my co-workers identical twin.

eta: I'm not talking about the pictured uniform :P

I worked the midway at Circus Circus in Vegas for about 3 months while I was in college. They used to rotate us from one game to the next and one day I ended up at some stupid boat race that played "Surfin' Safari" by the Beach Boys every time I pressed to GO button. To this day I get a "je ne sais quoi" in my gut every time I hear that song.

Oh #######, how could I forget.

I was a telemarketer selling phone service to corporate companies. That job lasted until lunch break. I worked from 8am to Noon. Once noon hit I booked it and jumped on the bus home. That's the worst for me.

I also worked as a telemarketer selling carpet cleaning services. They gave us a list of phone #s to call and a script to read and they kept track of every sale we made. I sold absolutely nothing in the one week I was there. It was horrible but not humilliating since nobody could see me.

In my last semester of school I was really broke. I had job, but business was slow that my boss started to cut back on employee hours. Sometimes I would be lucky if I was given a measly 5 hours a week. And you know at minimum wage it’s hard to pay bills, school tuition, food, rent, and gas on a less than 150 dollar pay check. On top of that it was hard to find a job in small college town, nobody was hiring at the time. Due to not having enough money for rent I lost my place to live. I ended up living out of my car for a few days till a co worker of mine find out and offered me a place to stay till I got on my feet again. I was so desperate and so frustrated of not being able to make ends meet and the jobs situation was not getting any better. It got to the point where I did not have 1 dollar to my name. Then after brainstorming of what I could possibly do I quickly jumped to my feet and I got a 20 dollar loan from some one. I remembered that the one gifted ability I have is to cook, my friends say I can make miracles with scraps. I went to Wal-Mart to buy a few ingredients needed to make breakfast tacos. A small bag of cheese, 1 can of refried beans, tortillas, foil paper, 5 potatoes, small pack of sausage and bacon and 1dz eggs. The next morning I got up at 4:30 am to make breakfast tacos. I made different types

Potato and egg

Bean and cheese

Bean and beacon

Sausage and egg

I then went out at 6 am each morning with a small cooler in my hand filled with fresh home made tacos, each wrapped in foil to keep them warm. I walked every where till I sold them all. I went to the university bus stops, the greyhound bus station, and a few local businesses that opened early. Need less to say at first I think people bought from me out of pity most likely, but with in a few days I started getting orders LOL. I would earn more selling my tacos before going to class than the $6.10/hr I got paid at the outlet mall working for Armani exchange when they gave me and hour here and there.

At first I did feel a bit embarrassed because there were a few snobbish sorority/frat girls from my university that recognized me and I know they would make fun of me and make little comments. Also me being a dark haired, brown eyed girl did not help the fact that I was walking around in the rain or cold selling tacos all over my college town and campus. Many people would try to talk to me in Spanish at first thinking that I did not speak English or that I was an illegal immigrant LOL Hello I was born and raised here, I was just an extremely poor and broke college student trying to finish my last semester. Boy did they get a shocker when I started yapping in English

. I also made a few flyers at the university labs offering my house cleaning services, and then I went to Target to distribute them on the windshields. I got a few calls from that too, and it all helped me recover the bottomless pit that I was in. Now that I think about it, I’m glad that I went through all that hell because it made me stronger and it made me value and appreciate every thing and every one around me so much more than before. Being in that situation I learn to see the world different, almost as if some one gave me a new set of eyes to view things. Necessity makes you become a whole lot more understanding and compassionate. It also makes you realize that you are so much stronger than you thought you were. Now that I’m out of school and have a nice paying job, I sit and look out of my office window and reflect on those days often. I really think that experience made me appreciate every thing that I have today by a MILLION TIMES FOLD. I was a taco seller and a house cleaner but never a bumb. As my parents always put it a job is better than none. It paid my bills and I'm greatful for it amd I’m humbled that God gave me a will and a way to survive

Don't ever be embarassed of that. One of my friends too, started off selling sandwiches downtown, and eventually graduated as a designer, has his own company, and many stores and restaurants in my hometown (Brazil) have logos done by him. Now he's actually on a trip to Portugal, 'cus a company there saw his work and wants to do business with him.

I never had a bad job, mostly 'cus I barely had a job, lived with parents in student status pretty much to the day I moved here to marry hubby, and now am still jobless here, no experience, no (good) knowledge of spanish ... it sucks.

Hubby is also a recent graduate, and he's a math teacher for now (he's a microbiologist, but no company wants to hire him without at least 5 years experience, Puerto Rico sucks for jobs) and to help pay the bills, he's still doing a part time flipping burgers at McD's, which was the job he got back in his student years to pay for his trips to visit me in Brazil.

During my first year of college I worked at McDonalds in the evenings. I transferred to the McDonalds in my hometown so I could work there during the summer and kids I went to high school with used to come in. This one girl who really enjoyed putting me down in high school came in and I had to take her order. When I asked her what I could get for her she just started laughing at me. I was so horrifyingly embarrassed About 8 years after that she ended up putting an application in where I work. The look on her face was priceless when she realized I was interviewing her. Which she didn't get hired of course. Payback's a b****.

LOL...I like that! What did you say? I always wanted to work at Chuck E Chesse when I was in high school. I think that would have been fun.
